Host was very gracious and changed our check in date because of an impending snowstorm so we could check out a day early!! Great place to stay. Loved everything about it.
We love this apartment - has a great outdoor space, very walkable and close to many of the attractions in St. Louis. Add to that the hosts are wonderful and check-in/check-out is a breeze.
Cute apartment!! Great area in the heart of the Hill close to everything…..MO Botanical Gardens, the zoo, Union Station, spectacular Italian food and downtown. Would stay here again for sure!
Very clean, you can tell that they take pride in their accommodations. Well stocked kitchen and great selection of spices. Very thoughtfully put together, it feels like it could be your own home. Great natural light. Cheery atmosphere. This is our go to when we visit the Lou!
A comfortable stay in a wonderful neighborhood. This location was great and allowed us to visit all the places we planned. It was very clean and well stocked
The apartment was WONDERFUL. Everything we needed, great location, and LOVED the balcony. ONLY complaint was there was hair on the wall inside the shower.
We really liked this cozy place. It was relaxing and comfortable there. The place is attractive and the neighborhood is great, with a park across the street.
Steve and I grew up in St Louis and love our city. We have a carpentry business and have gutted and rehabbed this apartment, which is attached to our own home where we converted a duplex to a single-family. My husband Steve grew up on 'The HIll' our city's historic Italian neighborhood and attended St Louis U High and SIUE where he went to college on a full soccer scholarship, and at 63 still plays the game! I have a yoga teaching certification and help in the carpentry business as well as run the vacation rentals. We have 6 grown children between us and a total of 7 grandchildren! We love to spend our Friday nights cooking and sharing wine with friends and family. My husband is an amazing cook and an avid fisherman. We love to play Pickle ball, ride our bikes around the city, and play in a bocce league 8 months of the year, at our favorite neighborhood pub. When we retire we plan to travel to the US!
Why they chose this property
Our carpentry company bought this property in 2008 to tear down and build new town homes overlooking Sublette park, but the economy had other ideas. In 2010 we adjusted our vision and began a long, (still in progress) rehabilitation of the buildings, which at the time were 2 sets of attached duplexes. We gutted both buildings and spent weekends rebuilding the interiors, converting the large units into our single family home. Buy 2012 we were moved in and then started the same process on the 2 smaller apartment units. The transformation has been an amazing process and we wouldn't live anywhere else!
What makes this property unique
St Louis was settled by the French, and Missouri had an amazingly prolific clay mines. As a result the city is littered with gorgeous, rich red/brown brick architecture. I loved that our buildings had the original city style architecture with flat roofs and tall ceilings. Our home has 8' pocket doors, a parlor and 2 staircases. Originally they had fireplaces in every room and gas lighting. This house had many of those features so I feel very fortunate to have one of these historic looking buildings. The apartments we now rent on VRBO were smaller and perfect for rental property, so we updated them as well with all new HVAC, electric and plumbing. We live across from a lovely city park and can walk to our favorite restaurants and to play bocce in our bocce league, spring, summer and fall at our favorite Bar, Milo's Bocce Garden. I love the people in this neighborhood, many are people we grew up with. We are close to Forest Park, downtown, the Central West End, Soulard and Busch Stadiu,m where we love to watch our famous Cardinals play baseball. I wouldn't trade my neighborhood for any other in the city. We feel very fortunate to be here. Now, if only I can convince my husband to get a golf cart for getting around our neighborhood and style!!
