Highly recommend! This was by far the cleanest Vrbo we have stayed at yet. Dave and his wife are fantastic hosts. They are there to greet you and make sure you have everything you need but you also have all the privacy you need. The location is fantastic- on the water in a channel away from boat traffic; tucked away far enough from Eagle River to enjoy nature but close enough to make a short drive into town for anything you need. We will definitely be back
Perfect family vacation setting. Many hours spent fishing on the dock just steps from the house and in the rowboat provided with the rental. We rented a pontoon for a few days from a nearby marina for more fishing and cruising the lakes - which was relaxing & beautiful. Even with the pontoon rental the most fish (bluegills and perch) were caught from then rowboat and the largest fish (small mouth bass) were caught off the dock. We had enough fish for 2 meals for a family of 5 (with a few leftovers after each meal!) We also enjoyed the kayaks - being in a no wake zone allowed for calm waters for kayaking.
The house and property were clean and meticulously cared for. Books, games, and puzzles were also provided which was nice for the few rainy days we had. The covered front porch was perfect for staying dry. It’s obvious Dave and Diane take great pride in their property. Dave went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed. This will be on our return list for future vacations.
Cranberry Pines is a meticulously maintained property that is well stocked with all the things you need to enjoy your time in the North Woods and on the water. Dave & Diane are great hosts that make you feel right at home.
Can't wait to return again next year for our 6th year!
This was our Second time staying for a week at Cranberry Pines. The house is AWESOME. Dave and Diane are such great hosts.
We had five adults plus our yellow lab, plenty of
room to relax. Can’t wait to make plans for 2025. Didn’t fish off the pier, but did very well on Cranberry and Catfish lakes. Thanks Dave and Diane for a great week, hope to see you in 2025.
Everything was great only complaint I would have from the pictures it looked a little more secluded than it is but great stay and the neighbors are very nice people!
This vacation getaway was just what we needed; it is a very peaceful and relaxing area. It was nice being able to fish right out the back door. The property is located within a short distance of many beautiful lakes and has deer wondering right up to the porch. We wish we could have stayed longer but are looking forward to a return visit.
The cabin was very well-appointed. All of the comforts of home are included, which made the stay so comfortable. The luxury-quality towels were a wonderful surprise! Fully stocked kitchen, lots of storage, washer/dryer, kayaks, the perfect fishing/boating dock, and the SOLITUDE made this a definite return destination. The view of the lake is gorgeous. Dave and Diane were the best kind of hosts — quick to answer questions, and so friendly. My husband’s goal of catching a ton of fish was achieved, which makes this more than just a 5-star trip!
We had a wonderful week away up North at Cranberry Pines! The property was clean, spacious and right on the water. We enjoyed days boating (access to several lakes on the chain), fishing (my husband caught about 10 fish right off the pier!), and hiking in nearby parks. At night we enjoyed cooking in the full kitchen (has everything you need), grilling and relaxing by the bonfire and on the large front porch. Saw deer in the yard most mornings. Dave and Diane were gracious hosts. Dave even helped us get our boat in the water at the boat launch, which was much appreciated for us first-timers. We definitely will be back in the future and would highly recommend this property to those looking for the perfect stay in the Eagle River area.
This is our 4th time staying at Cranberry Pines and it was again a wonderful week. Great hosts, clean, comfortable cottage with everything you need to just relax and enjoy all that the Eagle River chain has to offer.
We enjoyed our week at the house; it was an excellent getaway. The house is fully stocked with cooking items, along with a grill. Dave did a great job remodeling the bathroom! The lakes are great; fishing was very good even for late June. We had a few campfires, and enjoyed our time on the covered porch. Dave and Diane are very kind, hospitable, and very responsive. We couldn’t have asked for more.
Property was great. Everything we expected and more. Cabin was well taken care of. We were the first to use the new shower and it was great. The owners truly care about the property and anybody who stays there. Weather was great while we were there. Would definitely go again!
This is our 3rd year staying at Dave and Diane's cabin and we loved it again! So peaceful, tranquil and relaxing. Dave and Diane are wonderful hosts and we're lucky to have this place of theirs to stay at.
Very much enjoyed our stay at Dave & Diane’s place. They greeted us when we arrived and checked in to see if we needed anything. We enjoyed cooking at the house and fishing. It was fun to take our rented pontoon boat up the chain. They were very accommodating when we had to leave a day early due to a health issue I had. Really appreciate their understanding and accommodations!
The cottage and the property are extremely well kept docking layout gave multiple options for docking a boat. Dave and Diane were both wonderful a hosts. It was definitely one of those vacations that we loved and will remember. We booked for 2023 as soon as we returned home.

About the host
Hosted by Dave & Diane Butchart
Hi - we are Dave and Diane Butchart. We met on a blind date the summer of 1982 and will be celebrating their 30th wedding anniversary this August. We have 2 sons, Mike and Nick who have enjoyed coming "up north" since they were born; however, our German Shorthair dog Chloe loves the north woods more than any of us.
Why they chose this property
In 1962, Dave's grandparents, Ace and Eva Kenney purchased 7 acres of land and 300 feet of frontage on Cranberry Lake. They choose this particular piece of water front because Eva loved the solitude and to be able to see land not too far over the water. It was then that they started envisioning their dream of building a resort, which become known as Kenney's Resort. The property consisted of a year round home and the "big" and "little" cottages. The love of Cranberry Lake and the Eagle River area was instilled in Dave by his grandparents from his earliest childhood memories of sitting on his grandpa's lap in the old red pickup truck and helping his grandma clean the cottages and get the boats ready for the next set of renters. Upon their death, Dave's family inherited the home and the cottages were sold. Years later, we now own the home and in the fall of 2014, we were presented the opportunity to buy the "big" cottage". Ace and Eva's dream was to share their little slice of heaven with those who rented from them and we are proud to carry on their dream. In that spirit, we would like to share what's now known as Cranberry Pines with you.
What makes this property unique
You now know why this place means so much to us, but here are some little things that make it special. While there is knotty pine throughout the entire cabin, the knotty pine used in the original part of the cabin was milled from trees on the property. With the addition of the great room and covered porch, it's a very comfortable and inviting place to visit and we strive to make you feel at home from the moment you walk through the door. Another favorite of ours are the many birds and animals we see every day. Whether it's hummingbirds that frequent the feeder outside the picture window, the Eagles nesting across the water, the deer meandering through the yard or the loons calling in the evening, you will have plenty of opportunities to connect with nature. Whether it's time spent bonding with family or friends around the campfire or spending time on the water, we hope you choose to join us at Cranberry Pines.
