About this property
Gorgeous River Views/Private Beach - Peaceful Country Home close to Williamsburg
Newly constructed 4 bedroom home with views of the historic James River that will put a new meaning to RELAXATION. Enjoy the views of the historic James River &Jamestown Island. Even the silhouettes of the roller coasters of Busch Gardens which can be seen across the river. In July the fireworks displays from Busch Gardens begin and can be seen from the sitting room or front porch on weekend nights. Hog Island wildlife refuge can be seen across the river too. The sunrises are spectacular and can be enjoyed from the luxury of the three river facing bedrooms, but better enjoyed on the covered front porch with a hot cup of coffee! Or get out early enough to get your "steps" in for a short walk to the beach and enjoy the sound of the waves splashing on the beach as you watch the emerging sunrise. The night views of the river with moon beams bouncing across the water are spectacular and have stopped me in my tracks as I have walked passed windows at night and glanced out. Rain storms and the ever changing sky is just amazing. The sky in itself is a show - not to mention the stars at night.
Please note: more houses have been built in the neighborhood that are between us and the river. While the view has changed you still have an excellent view of the river as we are high enough to look over the houses.
Our wonderful home is a quiet oasis of peaceful bliss. This is Our HAPPY place and we are positive it will be YOURS too once you have visited this great vacation area.
Our home is located close to many historical locations: Williamsburg, Jamestown, Yorktown, Smithfield, Virginia Beach, Chippokes State Park, William and Mary College, Richmond, and Petersburg. The Williamsburg area provides many activities such as shopping at the outlet malls and other shopping centers; activities for children, teens and adults - Go Ape, Busch Gardens, Go Karts, and Water Country USA, the Jamestown Settlement, Colonial Williamsburg and Yorktown. For those who enjoy relaxing there is the Williamsburg Salt Spa, The Spa at Kingsmill and other establishments that cater. Also near our home is Chippokes State Park where interesting things are always on the agenda. There is a farm close by where you can pick your own vegetables, strawberries, blueberries or pumpkins depending upon the season. They also make and sell the best HOMEMADE ice cream you will ever taste. Stopping in for ice cream is worth the less than 5 minute ride. Also worth visiting is the Edwards Ham shop where you can pick up some fresh pork or ham biscuits and travel on the Hampton Roads Winery. OK, ladies --- I have to mention this again ... the shopping is outstanding at the Outlets in Williamsburg. The outlets are always so busy --- so do like we do, hang out at the river or house, take the ferry over to Williamsburg around 3:00 and you can enjoy the shopping with less people to maneuver around as well as being able to find a decent parking spot. There are so many things to do for all ages! The free ferry ride from the Surry side of the river over to Jamestown/Williamsburg is an enjoyable treat as well. During the summer months it runs every 20 minutes. It is a short 5 minute car ride to the ferry from our home. Once on the ferry, you are free to move about on deck. There are wonderful views and plenty of photo opportunities. There is an abundance of restaurants in the Williamsburg area and some very nice ones in Surry and Smithfield. Make sure you visit the Surrry Seafood Company when visiting our area. Locals drive from hours away to eat there! Don't forget to check out Smithfield - it is a hidden gem!
Whether you enjoy sitting back and relaxing in the quiet country or taking in the history and attractions of our area, our modest but comfortable home is the PERFECT Get-A-Way for your family. The Master bedroom has a king sized bed, ensuite with shower, soaking tub, private "toilet closet," double sink vanity, and walk in closet. There are 3 other bedrooms at the other end of the house that share a bath with a shower/tub and double sink vanity. Guest Bedroom #1 has a queen sized bed. Guest Bedroom # 2 has a double bed. Guest Bedroom # 3 has two twin beds and a television. Upon request, we can provide the following size air mattresses: Queen, Double, Twin & 2 youth sized with bumpers, if your party has more than 8 people. Linens, Bath Towels and Wash Cloths are supplied. You will however need to bring your own beach towels if you choose to frolic in the river.
We have a large den with two sofas, a love seat and chair to enjoy the 55" television or Boze wave radio. There is plenty of room to enjoy playing games or putting puzzles together with your loved ones. The living room/ sitting room is set up to enjoy the gorgeous views of the river, reading or enjoying quiet conversations with your family and friends. There is a folding table in the sitting room that can be accessed for additional dining or for putting together puzzles if that's your thing.
The kitchen is fully furnished and is open to the dining area and den. Enjoy being with your family even if you decide to cook your own meals rather than going to one of the several great local restaurants near by. The kitchen is supplied with a Kurig and a dripcoffee pot, toaster and toaster oven, Kitchen-aid stand mixer, crock pots, pots and pans, dishwasher, microwave, stovetop, double wall ovens and refrigerator. Dish towels, cloths, and oven mitts are available. Some staples (condiments, sugar, etc) are provided. Starter supplies of paper products, dish detergent & laundry detergent are also supplied.
The back entrance/ utility room off the back deck has a freezer, washer and dryer as well as access to a half bathroom. There is a propane gas grill located on the rear deck, with an extra propane tank for just in case.
The upstairs of the home is currently unfinished but future plans to complete will add additional bedrooms, bath and game room. Future plans also include construction of a garage and glassed/screened breezeway between the house and garage.
The home is in a new neighborhood subdivision, and our lot is 4 acres. We are not river front, but we have the best views of the James River you could ever ask for. We have plenty of room for children to run and have fun. We are one of eight homes in a community of 13 lots. There are 5 vacant lots with no near future plans for construction at this point.
The setting is rural and you can sit and watch the Eagles, Ospreys, hummingbirds, deer and turkey out the windows or as you sit on the porch. At night it is very quiet and peaceful and the sounds of the owls hooting to each other is very comforting. The river is a short easy walk from the house down the paved road. Traffic is minimal. The private neighborhood commons area beach is awesome. You can see the ferry from the beach. There are many shells on the beach so water shoes are recommended. The river is a great place to splash, relax and take in some rays. There are no drop offs and the water gradually deepens the further out you go. The sound of the waves breaking on the beach is so peaceful. It's a Great place for a picnic or cold beverage as you wet a line or just take in the views. We have beach chairs at the house for your use on the beach.
It's the best of both worlds - peaceful country living with the city life and so many FUN things to do just a short ferry and car ride away.

About the host
Hosted by Dorothy & Duke Bracy
We have vacationed in this area for the last 20+ years. Duke and his family have been vacationing here his entire life. His sister has a cottage that we have enjoyed for many wonderful years just up the beach. We fell in love with the peaceful country life, the river, the history and all the many things to do in the area. As long as we have been vacationing in the area we still have many things left on our to do list. We decided to build our own vacation/retirement home at the place we felt the most relaxed and where happiness was always present. We felt it would be a shame to not to share our peaceful haven with others who would like to unwind and reconnect with nature, family and friends.
We currently live an hour from our property on a tree and horse farm south of Petersburg, VA. We have four children and six grandchildren that we enjoy spending time with. We also enjoy spending time with our siblings and their families as well. As we quickly approach retirement age, our goal is to downsize the workload of maintaining our current home and farm and eventually move to our "Rivah" home to enjoy our later years in life.

Why they chose this property
We chose this property because of the LOCATION, the VIEWS and how close we are to so many things to do. Once you have experienced the peacefulness of this area, you too will fall in love with it. The sunrises, the ever changing sky, the moonlight, watching the wildlife and birds, watching the fireworks from Busch Gardens every weekend night at 9PM from June - August, or New Years Eve and Day are all reasons we enjoy our home so much. While it is a close ride to city life and amenities, our home also provides us with the peacefulness of country living.
What makes this property unique
Local activities include fresh strawberry, blueberry or in season fresh vegetables picking less than 2 miles away, Hampton Roads Vineyard & Winery, Edwards Ham Shop and Deli, Surry Seafood Resturant, Anna's Pizza are all within a 5 to 10 minute drive away. Less than a mile from the house you can stop in and buy FRESH EGGS!!! Chippokes Plantation State Park always has activities and festivals to keep you busy. In the fall, there's the Nottoway Indian PowWow - less than 10 minutes from the house. There are so many opportunities to get out and see history or just to relax and unwind.
