About this property
Welcome to Sand Dollar Beach House!
******July & August bookings run from Saturday to Saturday****** ******Check out #sanddollarbeachhouse on instagram********
One of best parts of Sand Dollar Beach house is the beach! When you walk out the front door of the cottage the beach is about 15 yards away. It is a private beach, accessible mainly to the cottages in the immediate surrounding area. We have the most beautiful beach on the South Shore with the warmest waters north of South Carolina. When the tide is low there are sandbars (1.5km!) which makes a for a giant playground for children (and adults!) and a great place for long walks. Stroll through the tidal pools, dig for clams, or beachcomb for sea glass, sand dollars and other ocean treasures. At high tide the width is approx 30 feet and at low tide 400 ft. Unlike the Cavendish Atlantic waters, we have no undertows and the shallow waters extend out for hundreds of feet, at which point they are still only waist-deep, making the beach perfect (and safe) for young children. This is a great beach for families! (Beach chairs, towels and toys are provided.) Rinse the sand off in the outdoor shower before heading into the beach house to relax.
The Sand Dollar Beach House has room for 8 guests. Please note that two single beds are located in a LOFT area. It is accessible by regular stairs but is open to the main living area. There is not a door separating the loft from the other areas. The loft bedroom is equipped with a TV and DVD player. This would be a great room for kids or just a space to sneak away from the vacation chaos.
The cottage has a screened in porch accessible through a patio door. This lovely area is perfect for balmy summer evenings. Listen to the waves crash while chatting with family and friends. After you watch the sunset, (and this is one of the best I have seen!) head out to the campfire pit to roast a hotdog and have a s'more.
There is a large lawn around the cottage for kids to run around and play games.
The main area is open concept. Relax on comfortable furniture that looks out to the beach and an amazing view ocean view. Cook up some seafood or other local fare in the fully stocked kitchen. Lobster anyone? There is a seafood co-op less than 5 minutes up the road that sells a variety of fresh seafood straight off the boat.
If you need a break from exploring, the beach house offers satellite TV, wifi and a DVD player. There is a small selection of movies, books, puzzles and games.
You will be in the heart of L'Acadie! This area of Prince Edward Island is still unspoiled (not overrun with other tourists!) and will provide a truly authentic Island experience for those looking for something a bit out of the ordinary! This is an Acadian area, where the people are incredibly friendly and speak both English and French. The Western part of Prince Edward Island is incredibly laid-back and easy going. You might be the only person on a sandy beach that stretches for miles!l
Close to the cottage: *Fish market at a working fishing wharf is just down the road. *Just up the road a few Km is a nice bakery/restaurant called Le Gallette blanche with has a wide variety of Acadian dishes and sweets such as meat pies and rapure.
Nearby: *Wellington (10 minutes) is a small village with any and all amenities you could want. * Summerside (25 minutes) is a bustling small city with tons to do, see and eat.
If you choose to head further up the western part of the Island you will find miles and miles of shoreline to explore, lighthouses, and quaint villages that are worth taking an extra look.
Cavendish is always an option, as well as bustling, sophisticated Charlottetown. They are a bit further away but would make a great day outing. I can provide a more in depth "curated" list of the Island's best tourist hot spots AND hidden gems known only to the locals.
Provided/included for your convenience: Fully equipped kitchen Bedding, towels/beach towels Cooler Lounge chairs Folding beach chairs TV, cable, Internet Games, books, DVDs Small selection of children's toys BBQ

Still my favourite place on earth... thank you for ensuring we had everything we needed for a successful family vacation. We hope to be back again in the summers to come!
We loved being right on the beach. We had a few very hot days and were a bit worried about not having AC, but the oceam breeze was amazing and kept us cool.
Super cute cottage. Clean and quaint. Comfortable beds. It was unfortunately really cold and rainy the days we went, but still had a day to explore the beautiful beach.
The Sand Dollar Beach house is a little slice of heaven. Beautiful home with everything you need - full kitchen, lovely bedding and loads of fresh towels! Tonnes of room for our family of 2 adults and 4 kids. The beach is spectacular with red sand and crystal clear waters! We will be back to this home away from home.
Fantastic views on a never ending beach in a perfect cottage!
Have stayed here many times now and it never disappoints. A sand dune away from the ocean on a beach, when at low tide, you can walk for hours on. The cottage is perfect for families, the beds are comfortable, and the views are spectacular especially the sunsets! It’s a perfect Oceanside cottage that’s quaint, has everything you need including great internet for streaming, and the owners are responsive to our every need. 10/10!
After a little difficulty finding the cottage when we arrived in the dark, Kim was quick to respond with clear directions.
The beach house was very clean, with modern decor, comfy beds and plenty of warm blankets for our autumn stay- we appreciated that!
Waking up to the view was like a dream. Red sand, blue skies, white waves. We walked the beach each morning and collected shells.
A few things that I missed: morning coffee and a hair dryer! Aside from that, a fantastic stay!!
This location and property are amazing -- especially for a family with two young children (ours are 5 and 3). The beach is just at the end of the drive over a small sand dune. The kids LOVED exploring the tidal flats every day... and I can't imagine a safer place for them to do so! And the sunsets were amazing! The cottage is so well equipped and comfortable: we had plenty of space for four adults and the two kids. The kids also loved all the books, games, art supplies, and movies. The location of the cottage is great for day trips too. Everything felt like it was no more than an hour away!
Our three kids are in their mid-twenties but it was like they were 8 again! We had the time of our lives in this cozy, casual, spotless cottage with spectacular ocean views and beaches that go on for ever.
Easy, scenic drives to Cavendish, North Rustico, the North Cape and Summerside (for our daily runs to Holman's Ice Cream)! Sand Dollar is only about an hour and a bit from YYG, but it's remote enough that we only saw three people on "our beach" the whole week.
Last but not least, Kim is the perfect host. She had a fully equipped kitchen, about a dozen board games, fantastic recommendations that only a local would know, and she answered our texts within minutes. We just wish we could have stayed longer.
Sand Dollar Cottage is a wonderful spot..well stocked with cooking appliances & dishes, clean spacious sleeping & living areas. We enjoyed one sunset & a couple of walks along the sandy beach before Hurricane Dorian landed. Kim the owner sent us messages before the hurricane & came to see us the next morning. The power had been out since the night before & it was anticipated days before it would be back on. We had to leave then, but Kim understood & refunded our money for the stay 5/6 nights immediately. We hope to come back again to experience the west coast of PEI.
The cottage was just as the pictures showed. We loved the location. My favorite spot for my afternoon naps was the screened in porch. We were pleased that the cottage had Netflix and liked the large table in the kitchen. We can see why this property is constantly booked.
One suggestion: When we arrived it was raining and the cushions on the furniture in the screened porch were wet. It took a couple of days for them to dry out properly. The look is nice when you walk in; however, if there is rain, maybe the cushions could be taken off the furniture for the next people coming in.
Kim delivered on all her promises! Everything she described in her add was accurate with even more +++. it is not surprising that her cottage is very popular and almost always rented!! The cottage has one of the best location in the whole area of Maximeville, directly on the beach with a spectacular view in general and breathtaking sunsets! The cottage itself was really clean, cozy, well equipped and beautifully decorated. We were only 2 but could have easily fitted the whole family of 5 no problem! Located in an Acadian region, people were so welcoming and willing to connect and answer our multiple questions! They showed us how to harvest our own soft shell clams and quahaug! We bought lobster 🦞, scallops and bar clams all within 5 minutes of the cottage, and hate fresh seafood all week! Sooo delicious!😋
We easily give this cottage and their host a 5 ⭐️ stars and we hope to be back soon! Thank you Kim for everything!

Loved our stay! Nicely decorated, clean and quiet
My boyfriend and I stayed 4 nights at the sand dollar cottage. What it lacks on the exterior for looks fully makes up for it on the interior. Felt much larger then it was. So bright and airy and beachy feel to the the place. Everything we needed was there. We spent every evening in the screened in sun room, which was very breezy and cozy. There were no immediate neighbors in their cottages so it felt very private. Might feel different in summer with the cottages being so close. We walked the beach when not raining..all along the dunes...was beautiful. Even added a couple new pieces of glass to the collection on the dinner table.
Overall we were quite pleased with the cottage. It could use a little colour on the exterior to brighten it up a little, but we had no complaints otherwise. Everyone who visited were amazed at how large it felt once inside and complemented on the interior decor. We would stay there again .

Thanks for your feedback and so glad your stay was pleasant. Since acquiring the cottage last year, we worked really hard at renovating, updating and decorating the inside. Unfortunately, we ran out of time for the exterior...that's the project for this fall! We can't wait to continually improve and make the Sand Dollar Beach Cottage a prefect vacation retreat. You'll have to come back next year and see the improvements :)
Perfect spot for long walks on the beach where when the tide is out you can walk for hours barefoot looking for sand dollars of which there are many. The cottage has everything you could possibly need and is large enough for 2 families. Kids would love the upstairs loft room! The property is large enough for our games and still room for an outdoor fire pit although we’ve just gone to the beach to build a fire. Neighbours are awesome and quiet but would help anyone if asked. Lots of fans for when it’s hot and ceiling fans everywhere! Nice, open and airy seaside house to hang your hat and nicely decorated for when you want to invite friends over for dinner and cook some lobster that you can easily pick up just down the road where the fishing boats come in. The screened in room and the huge veranda are excellent for watching the unique sunsets that are breathtaking every year we go! The owner is super and always accommodating especially through our many COVID reservation changes. Thanks Kim!
This is a very cosy cottage with nicely decorated bedrooms. The layout is well thought out and a sunroom is a very good addition. The kitchen has many extras. We enjoyed our stay and would have no reservation about recommending this gem to others. Very quiet environment.

About the host
Hosted by Kim O'Meara
Hi! My name is Kim. I am photographer living in beautiful Prince Edward Island Canada. My husband Ryan is a paramedic and we have a beautiful 7 year old daughter named Addie. I love to travel, collect sea glass, read and go to the beach!
My favourite travel destinations so far have been Tulum, Mexico and London, England. And Greece, can't forget about Greece! I have used VRBO and other similar sites to find unique accommodations all over the world. However, there is no place that I would rather be than Prince Edward Island in the summertime!
When we moved "home" to PEI several years ago it wasn't hard to decide to list our cottage so that we could share "our little island" with other travellers!
Why they chose this property
I grew up on Prince Edward Island and spend my summers at the beach. I lived away in a different province for 13 years and started to miss the ocean. We decided to move back several years ago and have loved living on this little island again!
I love travelling and liked the idea of having a cottage to rent to vacationers. After searching for the perfect place and then spending several months revamping it...Sand Dollar Beach house was ready to go! We are so proud of our place and hope you love it as much as we do!
What makes this property unique
We loved the look of the cottage. It has a lovely laid back beach feel that just begs you to rest and relax.
When we travel my family likes to experience our destinations a little off the beaten path. The beach house is located in a unique and very special part of PEI that is not as busy or touristy. It is still close to anything you would like to see, but offers a more authentic Prince Edward Island experience.
I loved the community that the beach house is near. It is a bilingual acadian (French/English) area with incredibly friendly and welcoming people.
And the best part of the property...The beach! We fell instantly in love with the lovely secluded beach. The beach is quintessentially PEI. Red sands, warm waters and walking for miles when the tide is out. When you step outside the door the beach is right there! We were excited to find out that you can find sand dollars. This is very rare in PEI! I collect sea glass (and can tell you some top secret spots to find some if you want to try too.) but have not ever encountered a sand dollar while out beach combing.
The cottage is so close to the water you can hear the waves in the quiet evening. Who hasn't dreamed about being lulled to sleep by lapping waves!
