About this property

Family-Friendly Cottage with Blue Ridge Mountain Views!

All are Welcome Here.
All Sizes. All Ages. All Cultures. All Sexes. All Beliefs. All Religions. All Colors.
All People. All Are Safe Here

This house is 1.7 miles up a narrow GRAVEL ROAD. The road is accessible by all types of vehicles including 2WD sedans and minivans, but it’s often a bumpy ride. There are 100+ residents in our neighborhood that drive the road daily, so know that the road is regularly maintained, but if you have reservations about driving on a gravel road with no streetlights, you may be more comfortable staying in a place in town.

If you’re up for the adventure, read on! The view from the house is well worth the bumps!

The 1,900 sq ft, 3 bedroom, 3 bath house has beautiful long range views of the Black Mountains, including Craggy Pinnacle, Mt. Mitchell, and Grandfather Mountain. 5 miles from historic Black Mountain (including Ingles grocery store and interstate 40), and 15 miles from Asheville, this is the perfect getaway for those that love nature, but also want to be close to coffee shops, dining, shopping, and all the activities of town.

The cozy house is flooded with natural light, and features an open floor plan with vaulted ceilings, gas fireplace, hardwood floors, and custom woodwork throughout.

The fully equipped custom kitchen has everything needed for cooking and entertaining including an electric range & oven, microwave, coffee maker, french press, toaster, blender, crockpot and more. We've stocked the basics such as dish soap, dishwasher detergent, paper towels, common spices & condiments, sugar, coffee & tea - as well as basic toiletries, in case you forgot yours, like shampoo, soap, shaving cream and razors.

The house has two living rooms, one on the main floor and one on the garden level, allowing plenty of space for friends and family to spread out. Each living room is equipped with a large flatscreen TV, DirecTV, DVD player (downstairs).

The large deck off the main living area gives you a front row view of the awe inspiring mountain scenery. The deck is equipped with a gas grill, table and chairs for outdoor eating, comfy loungers and a gas table fireplace.

The three bathrooms (2 on the main floor, and 1 downstairs) are stocked with towels, toilet paper, hand soap, and basic toiletry items.

On the main level:
Powder room, kitchen, living room, french doors leading to the deck, Main bed & bath.

The Main bedroom, has a new Queen sized bed, custom built-ins, and a private bathroom with soaking tub, and a skylight.

Downstairs:
A spacious light-filled living room with walk-out door leading to the back yard, two bedrooms - one with a Queen bed & one with 2 Twin beds, full bathroom, and washer/dryer.

We offer a toddler floor bed, and a pack-n-play crib as well. If you'd like for these to be set up, just let us know, and we'll have them made and ready for you in the room of your choice.

Mitsubishi mini-splits for heating & cooling keep the house comfortable all year round. With the elevation of 3,400 ft we highly recommend sleeping with the windows open so you can hear the hum of the katydids and cicadas and feel the refreshing cool mountain breeze. The indoor gas fireplace is available from Labor Day to Memorial day.

We provide an ample selection of children's books, games, puzzles, novels, local guidebooks, hiking & biking trail information, and family friendly DVDs.

We live on the mountain and are available should guests need us.

Cozy Cabin

This is a beautiful property that fit my families needs perfectly. There is lots of space for the kids to play and the adults to relax. The deck was our favorite spot to wake up and drink a cup of coffee and sit at night and watch the fireflies. There was everything we could have asked for at the house and made our trip perfect.

Grand View Cottage: Lovely Mountain Home

We had a great stay at Grand View Cottage. We were so impressed with the cleanliness of the house and the personal touches added by Lisa. And the view from the deck is amazing! There were 4 of us and we were so comfortable in the house. The road getting up to the house is a bit challenging in a few spots but it’s well worth it if you’re wanting a house up in the mountains with a beautiful view.

Amazing Stay

We had an amazing stay at Grand View Cottage. The view is absolutely beautiful with the sun rising over the mountains in the morning that you can watch from the back deck. The owners have thought of everything in here so that you can really come and have a worry-free experience. It was comfortable, but simple, which made this stay very relaxing and enjoyable. We can't wait to come back again next year.

Gorgeous mountain home perfect for all ages

We had the best time at Lisa’s beautiful Home. The views were spectacular and the house was immaculate. Lisa’s special additions were much appreciated and unexpected. My two year old loved the variety of toys and books. We are already talking about staying there again soon.

Highly recommend!

My family of six loves this cottage. We had snow while we were there, cooked dinner every night, toured Biltmore, and explored the town of Black a mountain. It was charming and cozy and we’d love to come back. Lisa responded VERY quickly to any question we had, even acquiring a special ESPN channel for the game we wanted to watch. Everything exceeded our expectations. Wonderful!

Simple and inviting home. Beautiful view of mountains!

Lisa expressed hospitality in many ways: a personal welcome note, fresh cut flowers, eggs from her hens, and a detailed notebook of answers to questions about the house and area. Her attention to detail created a comfortable environment!

Amazing cottage, Amazing location!! Highly Recommend this Cottage!!

Our family loved staying at the Grand View Cottage for the weekend! This home has been beautifully decorated, was incredibly clean, and Lisa left such sweet personal touches to make all of us feel very welcomed! We have 3 children in college and the rooms in the downstairs area were perfect for them! We agreed this was far better than any hotel we could have chosen. We LOVED the deck and spent the majority of our time out there having coffee, reading, and just catching up as a family. Be sure to go for a short little walk pass the cottage for a spectacular view of the mountains and the little bench there. We met 2 neighbors there who were delightful! Also, be sure to have dinner at the Straightaway Cafe just a few miles from the cottage. Great food, great music, and very fun atmosphere for the family!! The cottage is also close enough to enjoy all the culture, restaurants and shopping that Asheville has to offer. Our family cooked breakfast together Saturday morning, and enjoyed the local honey Lisa had available in the cottage. The kitchen was fully stocked with everything we needed. I especially loved the cast iron skillets :) We loved opening up the windows in the evening to enjoy the pure mountain air you can only enjoy at that elevation of 3300 feet! Needless to say, we are already trying to figure out when we can go back! Truly a haven away for anyone looking for a quiet retreat in the mountains of western North Carolina!! Thank you for all the hard work you have done on this home to make it such a special gathering place for families. You are very kind to share it with others!!!

BEAUTIFUL mountain retreat with plenty of room

Stayed April 7-10, 2017. 4 adults, a tween and a baby. Adorable cottage with a BEAUTIFUL mountain view. A lot of little extras went into making our stay enjoyable such as eggs in the refrigerator, chocolates, super cozy bedding, spa quality towels, hand soap in every bathroom, a Keurig with various teas and coffees and night lights for safety. The kitchen was fully stocked and we enjoyed looking at the hand made baskets and artwork. The two bedrooms and sitting area downstairs gave us extra room to spread out were. Wish there were rubber pads on the stairs for safety and central heat/air would be easier. Fireplace was a nice extra though. We brought bath soap but just in case I would lay out those small hotel soaps for people. Wish the master was a king size bed (I like to stretch out my arms at night...weird I know). I was worried about the drive up as I freak out driving through mountains but it wasn't scary. It'll take about 17 minutes from the house to the interstate. I also want to highlight that it was VERY clean. The master bathroom is really pretty with the skylight. A small table would be helpful for those of us with makeup and curling irons but the huge amount of shelf space in the master bedroom was really convenient. I would also add another outlet downstairs next to the other twin bed so electronics could be plugged in at both beds. Again, the bedding was super thick and comfy. Thank you for renting out your house to us. We were able to enjoy a wonderful weekend with our family.

Amazing location and perfect little cabin in the mountains! Highly recommend!!

What a great experience overall but I will give an objective review since we always read reviews & appreciate the pros and the cons. Cons: New homeowners with this home - missing some essentials that we found to be common place at Homeaway place we've stayed in the past sponges 1. grill scraper (although grill was brand spanking new so it was more just my OCD that was effected since I couldn't clean the grill after) 2. toilet paper was too close to call with a family of 5 so we bought a spare package 3. lighter (grill had its own but with a great fire pit out back this was essential - we left ours there for the next visitors) 4. fire wood - this is kind of luxury since you might expect to have to buy this yourself. Being first time visiting a Homeaway in the mountains it is hard to say what is norm 5. Few other items that I admit I should have written down while we were up there. We bought and left a few things that we really needed but wasn't something we wanted to worry about packing up but knew the next guests would appreciate. - Master bedroom bed was a little small. King would have been nice...just sayin.. - LOVED that they had a Roku up there but it needs to be setup so you can login to your Netflix or Amazon or whatever other channel. Ended up setting it up under our Roku account & deleting after so could take advantage while up there. - Ice maker would have been nice...but filtered water was amazing even without ice! PROS - What an amazing location...off the beaten path but not too long of a drive to get to get some great shops & dining. Also very well located to get to outdoor hiking and sight seeing places. - House was so perfect with regards to layout. We have a family of 5 (All girls aged 10,7,2 + me & wife) Upstairs main living for family dining and hanging out but downstairs when kids and adults need their own space. - Amazing views!! Really up on the mountains. Breathtaking views all the time. Sunsets were incredible. - Backyard! Not many houses have that up that high. Was great for the kids to run around & play. - Firepit - add that to the amazing back yard & you have the perfect setting for all times of the day/night! - Well heated for wintertime. All gas heaters which are great at getting the place toasty warm when you need it. - Homeowners were very easy to reach & had some really cool handmade baskets we purchased. One of a kind and made a great memory keepsake of a great trip to a great house that would highly recommend!!!!

Host profile image
I'm an artist and homeschooling mother. My days are spent learning about the natural world with the kids, exploring trails, tending to our flock of chickens, ducks, honeybee hives, and growing and preserving as much of our own food as we can.

In 2012 my family and I relocated from the Rockies to these beautiful Blue Ridge mountains. We instantly fell in love with the charm of Black Mountain, and the people and landscape of this neighborhood.

My husband and I have long-admired this cottage, so when it went on the market in December 2016, we jumped at the opportunity to become a part of its story. We closed on the house in January 2017, and with the kids by our side, began a five week long renovation project. Our goal in furnishing the house was to make it comfortable and keep it simple, so as to not compete with the beauty of the custom woodwork, and of course, that View!

We have travelled extensively, within the U.S. and abroad, and have a good idea of what it takes to make a vacation home comfortable. We strive to provide you with a comfortable and peaceful setting, stocked with all the amenities you need to enjoy a relaxing vacation. We have grown to love the peacefulness of this sweet house, and are excited to share it with you!

What makes this property unique
