About this property

Escape the noise, the traffic, and the stress of life. The Cottage is a perfect spot for a family or small group of friends. Events or gatherings (which includes anyone not staying at the Cottage) are not allowed. The lake is approximately half way between the northeast and Florida. Treat yourself to a lake holiday, a special place in this world where your entire being is released and a true sense of serenity and relaxation floods your thoughts. There is no place as special as Lake Waccamaw. Old timers claim this lake is the “largest natural lake from Maine to Florida”. Lake Waccamaw is located about 35 minutes off I-95 taking exit 13A east at Lumberton, NC, (US 74 4-lane all the way). We are 39 miles from Wilmington, 51 miles from Southport, and 65 miles from Myrtle Beach.
Listen for the sounds of wildlife. Look at a world of waterfowl (mallards, coots, wood ducks, teal, merganser, bufflehead, cormorants, herons, cranes, kingfishers.) Enjoy the beautiful sunrises. Watch an osprey gracefully swoop for his dinner and maybe spot an eagle. “Hear” the quiet. Enjoy a special peace in a special place.
Our lakefront house includes 3 bedrooms, 1 bath with stackable washer/dryer, modern kitchen with bar for lunch and a dining table for 4-6 people. You have pier privileges with decking both covered and open for sunbathing or night star-gazing. The shallow water is ideal for young children and we have a sandy beach for play-time. Should you come don't stay too long because you might get “bit” (you may fall in love with the lake and not want to ever leave.) allowed

Peaceful get away

This is a beautiful home with an amazing view of a perfect sunrise over the lake. The place felt like home. We didn’t want to leave. The dock that’s on the lake there is just as relaxing as the home. It’s the perfect getaway to unwind.

Tried to extend stay by 1 day thru VRBO with no success. Hosts were very accommodating. Twin bed mattresses are due for replacement. Bring your own toilet paper - they privide 2 rolls but that may not be enough.

Three Sisters Black River Paddle

This is a small sweet property that reminds me of going to my grandmother‘s home. Some friends and I were going to the Black River to do a guided paddle and decided it would be fun to stay the weekend at Lake Waccamaw rather than drive back-and-forth in one day to Durham. This home is right on the water just the right number of beds. It met all our needs. The owners were friendly, accommodating, and had answers to our questions. I would stay there again.

Gator watch perfection

My husband and mom love watching gators. We have been to the lake many times just to drive around and look for them. I decided we needed a few days at the lake to get lots of watching for gators time in. The weather was perfect for viewing them in the canal. The lakeside was a wonderful relaxing place for me to sit and read to my heart's content. Meeting Gail was delightful and gave my 91 year old mom a fun time to talk about her travels around the world.

Quick trip

Great house with a great view. The fire pit by the water was a great way to end a busy day. Will definitely be coming back in the summer so I can enjoy the lake. The hosts were very welcoming and ensured we had everything we needed.

RACING TO 50

We couldn’t have had a better time at THE COTTAGE! What brought us to the area was my husband’s RC Race at the Equestrian Center and his 50th Birthday! Bob and Gail are phenomenal host! Even though it was a foggy and rainy weekend, our stay was pleasant and we still enjoyed the peace and tranquillity of beautiful Lake Waccamaw. We even had the chance to Kayak for the very first time. You will not find a better couple to provide such wonderful accommodations. It was exceptionally clean. Linens and pillows were fabulous. That’s not the norm at other locations we have been. Kitchen was stocked with necessary supplies, if we needed something, they were quick to ensure we had what we needed. By request, Bob took the time to prepare the fire pit for us to return to and enjoy after the race and Gail provided marshmallows. Sadly it started rainy and we weren’t able to take advantage of it. I can’t say enough good things about this couple and our stay. If you want a nice peaceful and comfortable get away THIS is the place for you! We hope to return here in the future.

Lovely Lake Retreat

This is like going to your favorite grandmother's lake house with all the warmth and charm included. The 1st evening we sat out on the lake beach with our feet in the water with the beautiful cypress trees draped in spanish moss providing our shade. The 2nd afternoon we hung out on the boat dock swimming and relaxing. The hosts were absolutely delightful and accommodating. They made sure we had everything we needed. We highly recommend this house and will stay here again.

Adorable Cottage

Lake oasis

This property was the perfect property for my friend and I and our children. Sitting right on Lake Waccamaw with a beach area was perfect for the kids to be able to play and the adults to be able to enjoy some relaxation. We will be back again next year. Gail and Bob are amazing hosts.

We have loved Lake Waccamaw all of our lives. As children we traveled with our families and friends to swim, fish, and just enjoy. As a young married couple we bought our first place at the lake. In 1984 we bought the home we live in now as a "get away". Finally, in 2002 we moved here permanently. We have owned "the COTTAGE" since 2001 and have rented it since then. We're excited about meeting our vacationers and look forward to each new experience. We're available if you need us and happy to give you all the privacy you want.
