Two Rows Back, Deal, Kent

There's something about arriving at Two Rows Back that immediately feels right. A thoughtfully redesigned Georgian townhouse tucked in the heart of Deal, it sits just two streets from the sea. With a quietly striking interior that feels as considered as it is comfortable, it is the kind of home that draws in design-conscious visitors and families alike, and suits both perfectly. The ground floor opens into a beautiful open-plan living space, with a birch plywood kitchen with stainless steel worktop, a skylighted dining area with a dining table and chairs for six, and a sitting room with a corner sofa, wall mounted Smart TV and a wide window seat looking out onto the private courtyard garden. It's a lovely room to come back to after a day on the beach - shoes off, something cold from the fridge, feet up on the sofa. Exposed douglas fir joists run overhead, polished concrete floors with underfloor heating underfoot, and everywhere there is light. Outside, the whitewashed courtyard garden is a real bonus with bamboo, bulkhead lights and a table and benches, it is sheltered and entirely private. The first bedroom is on the ground floor, a lovely and cosy double. Upstairs, the house reveals its Georgian origins with original stripped floorboards, sash windows and cast iron radiators. Two further bedrooms, one double and one with bunk beds are calm and quietly beautiful with soft blush walls, they are the kind of rooms where you actually sleep well. Step outside and Deal is on your doorstep, the beach a few minutes' walk, the pier stretching out over the Channel, and one of the best independent high streets in Kent right around the corner. Great coffee, excellent delis, brilliant pubs, a Saturday market and Walmer Castle's gardens all within easy reach. It's a town that rewards slow exploration, and this house is the perfect base for it.

Not for us

The cottage was very stylish,well equipped and very central for the beach and the centre. However we found that it wasn't for us. The polished concrete floor looked very smart and was easy to keep clean but the three steps down into the main room need some definition as when you walked in it was easy to miss the step which I did and nearly landed on the floor. I did in fact put a plant and basket on the steps to draw attention to them. The settees have low backs which we found uncomfortable and wide seats which were hard to get up from. The shelving in the kitchen area was quite high and reaching for plates was a bit of a stretch. The outside courtyard was really nice.The beds were comfortable,but the downstairs bedroom was very noisy..We felt that for an architect designed house a downstairs toilet would have been more useful than a utility room. The bath was quite high sided and narrow which we found a bit difficult.I know we are in the higher age group but we are still considered reasonably agile but we feel this property is for much more suited for younger people. Also we were surprised there was no welcome pack as has been provided by Keepers Cottages in the past ,not even the coffee pods as were promised. Finally I'm pleased we didn't arrive in the evening or in the rain as the key safe was a nuisance to get to.

Lovely house. Surprising heat gain, especially in the children’s bedroom for what is in effect a new build architect designed home. It wasn’t even especially warm weather during our stay. Everything else was first class.

Fantastic house

Brilliant and beautiful house. Everything is so well considered for staying guests. A well equipped kitchen. Comfy beds. Great open space to all spend time in together. Great location for the beach and high street. We’ve stayed in a good few places in Whitstable and Deal and they’ve all been nice bases, but we liked this so much we were happy to stay in and hangout. Our kids are asking if we can move in, so we’ll no doubt be back. On that note, the one tiny thing we could find missing that lots of other holiday homes provide, is basic kid crockery/cutlery/cups. That’s how nit-picky we have to get to come up with any real feedback.

Fabulous property

We had a wonderful week. The property was in excellent condition and beautifully designed. Great location to the town centre and the beach, though on road parking was a bit tricky at peak times. A great base for exploring the local areas of Deal, Ramsgate, Broadstairs and Margate. Would highly recommend.

A great stay

We had a 4 night stay at 29 College Road Deal. The house met all our expectations. The description was very accurate. The house was stylish, comfortable and had every convenience. It was spotlessly clean.The location was also excellent providing easy and quick access to the charming historical streets, the High Street and the seafront. We particularly liked the comfortable beds and linen, the outdoor space and the charming welcome pack! We were particularly grateful that Keepers Cottages were thougtful regarding our arrival time and nearby collection of keys. Great service all round, thank you!
