Jewel of the Mosel, Townhouse in central Zell, beautiful Mosel views

Enjoy the full beauty of the Mosel river from direct views out of all front windows and balcony. Our Jewel of the Mosel townhouse is spread across 5 floors, giving commanding views from all levels. It is an ideal base for families and groups with the wide selection of sleeping arrangements which it offers. Everyone can come together in the very large kitchen/dining room or 'do their own thing' on other floors of the house. Be aware there are lots of stairs though - making the house exciting for children to explore!

Relax and sit watching the barges, river cruise ships and pleasure boats passing your windows and balcony on the Mosel. Step outside and board one of these for a trip to nearby Cochem or Traben Trabach. Sit outside under grape vines on the promenade or wander the streets of the town - all criss crossed by vines. Stroll up into the vineyards behind the house for magnificent views, or for the more energetic take well marked Nordic walking routes. There are even dog walks marked out by paw prints, and we are very pet friendly!

Enjoy sampling the famous wines from the local vineyards - you are sure to take home some bottles of the famous Zeller Schwarze Katz!

The house is well equipped and furnished so even on a rainy day you would be happy indoors (if you had not chosen to explore the exciting museums of Roman Trier!)

The property comprises of 250 sq metres of living space!

perfect base to explore the Mosel

We enjoyed our stay. There was plenty of room with a nice terrace for meals overlooking the Mosel. A central location to explore many neighboring towns all while having restaurants and shops just outside the front door.

Fantastic stay:

We booked this accommodation as a base for our motorbike trip around the Mosel Valley, it was an ideal choice and had everything we needed to make our stay enjoyable , it was spacious and clean. The location of this apartment is minutes from restaurant's ,pubs and bakers. The view across the river was a great way to wake up. Over all a fantastic stay!!! 10/10

Wonderful views on a wonderful town

The property was perfect for our stay. We stayed only 2 nights, but Zell is a pretty little town and was perfect to explore parts of the region. We were relatively short drives to Bacharach, Rudesheim, Bernkastel-Kues - beautiful towns in the Rhine/Mosel Valleys. There are steps in the unit to negotiate, but the kitchen was perfect, as was a deck that overlooked the Mosel. Bedrooms and bathrooms were nicely appointed and large. Bring toiletries. Overall, would highly recommend!

BEAUTIFUL VIEW

We stayed in the house for 5 days in June 2015 - there were 3 couples and we had plenty of space - the kitchen is fantastic with lovely views over the river mosel as you are dining. The balcony area on the top floor was fantastic for a late night glass of wine/beer at the end of the day looking at the cruisers go by. The location of the house is right in the centre of Zell and the town itself is a perfect base for exploring the area. Would highly recommend and cannot wait to go back again - was the highlight of our 3 week holiday in Germany/Holland this year. - Edwina, Dublin

Jewel of the mosel

We found the property easily. The manager was on hand to answer any questions. It was a fantastic location - balconies and frontage overlooking the magnificent Mosel! Plenty of great eateries around the corner! The facilities where very good too! If it was possible to squeeze another shower room on the second floor it would be perfect. Would definitely recommend this property and will definitely return soon!

We had a group of 5 adults stay two nights and thoroughly enjoyed the property and its location.

You must be prepared to deal with stairs but the property is conveniently located near restaurants, shopping and vineyards. The kitchen/dining area overloooks the Mosel river and the view from the balcony is very beautiful. Bus transportation is two blocks away. Bus to the Bullay train station takes about 10 min and trains from Bullay can take you to many attractions. There is a nice walking path along the river and a pedestrian bridge across the Mosel is just a block away. We did not have a car but found that to be of no consequence as everything we needed was within walking distance. A bakery is just a few meters from the front door if you want pastries for breakfast and there was a small local market close by. We found the town of Zell to be very nice and only wish we had more time to enjoy it.

Glad to hear you enjoyed your stay. We do clearly warn of our many stairs in the description of our property, but they are inevitable with such a large house. The bonus is that the higher you climb, the more spectacular the views become; you can even see into the vineyards behind from the top floor. Good to hear you enjoying exploring some of the many great places in the surrounding area, and if you're ever able to come back again I'm sure you'd also enjoy a boat trip along the Mosel from almost outside the front door!

I have never written a poor review on any house. However, I can’t ignore this.Our group was on an 8-country road trip. We picked properties that had washing machines listed. We needed to wash clothes because we are away for 3 weeks. No washer in the unit we rented! We had to call the “house manager” who then opened the door to an adjoining property that did have a washer. The listing was false! Additionally, the place was not clean. Dust on and behind furniture. I actually am requesting refund for one night. You have taken a great location and let the property go.

Jewel of the Mosel is a spacious, well cleaned, cosy and vwey well-equiped appartment. The view from the balcony is absolutely magnificent.The beds may be hard for some people, we slept very well in them.Plus are the toilet and bathroom on each floor.Communication with Barbara Houghton is excellent. She responded fast and adequtely too our questions.Traffic in front of the building can be experienced as "ok, it's there" , but dies out in the evening. From the balcony we found it absolutely not to be a nuisance or inconvenience.So does the murmur (no audible music) from the bars and small terraces on the backside. Zell sleeps early. After 0:00 it is just quiet.The garage can fit only 1 car and is shared with other inhabitants of the building. ( 2 appartments.) A surprise to both us and the other inhabitants. Fortunately parking on the boulevard is cheap (payed from 8:00 to 18:00), or free parking is just a few minutes on foot.Well, this all sounds very positive, doesn't it? Well, if I may make one reservation: the cannabis plantage on the adjacent balcony. Occassionaly a dash of it's odeur blows over. Fortunatley during our stay the wind mostly blew the smell away. All in all, we can certainly recommend Jewel of the Mosel.

We had high expectations based off of the listing, and our stay exceeded those high expectations!

This house is truly a hidden jewel, as most Germans we spoke to had never heard of the village of Zell. As the home was literally right next to the town fountain, we were steps from bakeries, pizzerias, an award-winning metzgerei (butcher shop), ice cream shop and even a playground. Many summer hikers passed us on various routes through the countryside, and two cruise docks were visible from our window. The layout with multiple-sized ooms on multiple floors was perfect for our group of 4 families. The teenagers had their own floor, small children were down the hall from their parents, and the layout with two kitchens allowed for casual snacking and TV watching while the main meals were being prepared. The owner was very easy to communicate with (spoke English), and the property manager (English/German) even offered to arrange a wine tasting cruise for us on his personal yacht. Free nearby parking is better than advertised, and a very modern shopping plaza with multiple grocery stores is only 10 minutes drive across the river. On your drive over from Frankfurt, make sure you visit the Geierlay suspension bridge; the walk there is worth it! After our stay, we wished we would have booked this lodging for a week! A memorable family reunion highlighted by an incredible dwelling place!

Lovely apartment, beautiful view

This is a very attractive apartment with a spectacular view over the river from the balcony. Very spacious, with comfy beds, plenty of bathrooms to choose from and a lovely large kitchen. It was spotlessly clean, thanks to the efforts of Margot. Right in the centre of Zell with a tourist information centre a couple of minutes walk away. The only misunderstanding concerned the use of the washing machine. I always book apartments which provide a washer as we like to move around but travel light so tend to wash as we go. Since the washer/dryer in the actual apartment was in a locked room we assumed that we should use the one in the basement. However, when we went to pick up the washing we bumped into Margot who seemed really surprised we were using it and had taken our washed clothes out so that she could use it. She told us not to use the dryer until she had finished as it could blow a fuse. Not a problem, but I hadn't realised we would be sharing it. Since we were out by the time she was finished though, she was kind enough to run our things through the dryer and put them in our apartment. Zell is an ideal spot for a couple of days. Very small and quiet but pretty and relaxing. It doesn't have a supermarket though so if you come without a car as we did, it is easier to eat out. Our next port of call was Bernkastel-Kues. We had the option of taking the bus (about an hour and a quarter) or taking the boat from just outside the apartment (about 4 hours). In the end we opted for the boat and I'm so glad we did. The journey was really scenic, the time whizzed by and by the time we had something to eat and drink we had arrived. Definitely recommend!

I'm glad you enjoyed your time in Zell. It is indeed very easy to eat out in town as there are so many restaurants within a few minutes' walk. I'm sorry to hear you didn't manage to find the supermarkets - they are a short bus ride away on the opposite bank of the river - where there is a large Globus hypermarket, Lidl, Aldi and several other large stores. (There is also cheap petrol available for car users at Globus). I'm glad to hear you enjoyed your trip to Bernkastel-Kues. The boat trip does take quite a time due to the number of locks to be passed through! We have purchased the new washing machine and tumble drier downstairs within the last month as having so many beds in the house and, I'm pleased to say, so many guests choosing to stay with us, the washing machines in the house are kept quite busy with all the fast change-overs at this time of year! The new machines in the basement would never have to be shared with other guests, as the smaller apartment (the Rotling) also has its own machine in its kitchen. We hope to welcome you again sometime.

Clean, warm, spacious and good value!

We booked the top floors for three nights between Christmas and new year for 6 adults and 3 children. The apartment was just the right size for us, although if you are bringing more people they have a lower floor they can open up with another bedroom I think. The guy who welcomed us was a top bloke and gave us plenty of info about the house and local area. We never had to ring him for help but he gave us the impression he would have done anything for us! The bedrooms were clean with comfortable beds and we had a nice view of the river from the top floor. There was enough bathrooms for us to have one per couple and they were fine as far as I am aware! Plenty of shower gel shampoo etc. The kitchen and dining area was good we spent the little time we were at home in there. The table was big enough for us all to fit round and play games in the evening. Overall I would say everyone was happy with the house. Certainly there wasn't any complaints and my daughter was quite sad to leave! As for the location it was great although the village was pretty much shut down for the winter! But we visited both the restaurants that were open, both less than 2 mins walk from the door. The Italian just behind was nice and the owner made us feel very welcome. The Greek restaurant abit further down was outstanding, the food we had from there was probably the highlight of my holiday! We spent a day in cochem and visited the castle which was well worth a visit, the next day we got up early and went to girilay suspension bridge which was one of the main reasons I chose to come to this area. It was also worth a visit. And we went to the roman city of Trier which was good. Really I wanted to see burg Eltz but it was closed. I would possibly come back in the summer as it seems many of the things I wanted to do close for the winter. To summarise the apartment was great and we had no complaints at all! For the price Its good quality. Thanks!

We're glad to hear you enjoyed your stay. Zell is quiet in December, but is livened up by the Glühwein party in the town square just before Christmas, and as you say there are a few restaurants which remain open all year. We too love El Grego (the Greek/German restaurant a 2 min walk from our house) - their lamb cutlets melt in your mouth! In December, before Christmas, there are also some lovely Christmas markets to visit locally - Bernkastel-Kues, Trier, Koblenz and the underground one at Traben Trabach being amongst the best. We're pleased to hear that our house manager Thomas was helpful. He is also very knowledgeable about wine, and in the summer is happy to organise wine tasting for guests on his boat. We hope to welcome you back another time so that you can get to visit the beautiful Burg Eltz (a fairy tale castle, open from 25.3.18 - early November). Also if you enjoyed the Geierlay suspension bridge, you'd love the observation tower at nearby Marienberg from where you get great views of the large loop in the Mosel at Zell.

Zell an sich ist eine Reise wert, gemütlich, viele Weine die überall getestet, gekauft werden können. Viele Restaurants , Geschäfte, Ausflugsmöglichkeiten etc mit meist annehmbaren Preisen .Parken war kostenfrei und kostenpflichtig möglich, allerdings sind wir über Ostern hier gewesen, denke zur Hochsaison sieht das anders aus. Unser Haus war für uns 13 perfekt, die Kommunikation mit der Vermieterin meistens gut und informativ. Die Lage, direkt an der Moselpromenade auch klasse. Die Sauberkeit des Hauses ist okay, hat aber schon bissle Luft nach oben. Ganz neu ist es nicht , aber das hat unserem Besuch hier nicht ausgemacht. An Einrichtung und Zubehör ist alles mehr als ausreichend vorhanden!! Direkt am Nachbarhaus ist übrigens n Fahrradverleih. Wir haben uns hier wohl gefühlt. Dankeschön

Lage sehr gut, Kommunikation mit der Verwaltung super, sehr hilfsbereitLeider einige Kleinigkeiten auf die nicht soviel Wert gelegt wird. Die beeinträchtigen aber nicht den Aufenthalt. Sonst wäre es perfekt!

Wir haben uns alle sehr wohl gefühlt. Die Zimmer waren 1.A eingerichtet und sauber.Die Aussicht zur Mosel und den Weinbergen sind super.

Es ist eine schöne Unterkunft, gerade für größere Gruppen.Mittendrin in Zell und eine super Aussicht auf die Mosel.Wir waren eine Truppe von 8 Männern, die die Umgebung von Zell an der Mosel genossen haben.Jeder hatte sein eigenes Zimmer.Es hat eigentlich an nichts gefehlt.Zum Thema Sauberkeit:Den oberen Kühlschrank mussten wir erstmal kurz sauberwischen und eine Toilette war etwas verschmutzt.Alles in allem Ok.

Im Haus selber war ich enttäuscht, dass nicht genau beschrieben wurde. , dass es über vier Etagen geht. Auf jede Etage ein Zimmer natürlich mit Badezimmer und Toilette. Auf dem Bett lag ein Bettbezug und ein Handtuch. Es gab kein Info das unten im Bettkasten Handtücher und Bettwäsche ist, die Küche war toll Alles was man so brauchte, war da Parkplätze vorhanden. Das hieß das draußen auf dem Parkplatz kostenlose Parkplätze gab weit weg vom Haus. Bei Anreise die Kommunikation war schwer. Die Dame sprach gebrochen, deutsch. bei Abreise. Haben wir auf Verwalter gewartet kam aber keiner. Ich musste wieder die Eigentümerin anrufen und fragen, wohin mit dem Schlüssel. Übrigens, ich habe auch keine E-Mail bekommen vor der Anreise alles in einem war nicht so, wie ich mir vorgestellt habe.
