We are English and live in Liverpool. We fell in love with France and its easy pace of living, fine food and friendly people. Having a holiday home in Britanny means we can drive from Liverpool to Rochefort en Terre by using the ferry. There is also access via flights to either Nantes or Rennes airports.
I am now a widower and have been retired for 8 years.

Brita Cottage is situated in the south Britanny countryside within a beatiful tourist village of Rochefort en Terre, voted France's favourite village in a nationwide TV show. There is easy access to the coast 19 miles (29 kilometres) away.
There is a lot to do and see within Rochefort en Terre with restaurants, creperies, cafe/bars and gift shops catering for the visiting tourists.
We chose Rochefort en Terre as the place where we wanted our new holiday home built because of the sheer beauty of the place. We had looked at many places in Britanny but as we looked out of our hotel window onto the main street we decided we could not do any better as a place to have our holiday home and had Brita Cottage built on the edge of the village but within easy walking distance to the cetre of the village.

On the edge of the beautiful village of Rochefort en Terre, one of 19 'Petites Cités de Caractère’. The picture postcard village has cobbled streets, a château (open to the public, photo below) and many 16th and 17th century buildings. The village has restaurants, crêperies, café/bars, bakery, artist studios, Breton biscuit makers and antique shops.
Within walking distance of the gîte is the 50 acre Etang de Moulin Neuf lake with boating, fishing and a café bar. You can drive and there is a large car park there.
On the lake there is a small man-made sandy beach and woods with shaded picnic tables. Also there is Aventure Moulin Neuf and here you can hire various water craft (canoes, pedal boats, etc.) and quad bikes for 4 (or for 2 or for 1). There are high level walk-ways in the trees at the side of the lake where there is also (for the brave!) a zip wire to take you across the lake and then back again operated by experienced wardens.
The Atlantic coast with sandy beaches and coves is 20 miles to the south.
The plot is a quarter of an acre with country views to the rear. It includes a patio with recliners, table and chairs shaded by a substantial pergola (like a gazebo but with solid translucent roof) for “al fresco” dining and a BBQ.
It is fully furnished with two leather sofas, dining room suite, mini-stereo system, large TV with UK ‘free to air’ programmes via Sky and French programmes via Orange. Internet/wifi is also provided by Orange. There is a fridge/freezer, oven, ceramic 4-burner hob, dishwasher, washing machine, dryer, microwave, toaster, electric kettle, hairdryer, iron and vacuum cleaner.
For your safety, there are smoke alarms in each bedroom and in the lounge, plus a fire extinguisher and fire blanket on the wall in the garage.
