Number One a fabulous historic property with hot tub, cinema room and own bar.

Number One, The Terrace Windermere is a luxury big cottage in the English District, which sleeps 14 in 6 bedrooms with 4 bathrooms. Located in Windermere Village within a few hundred metres of all of the shops, bars, cafes and restaurants and also with almost direct access to the hills, Number One is in "position A". On the ground floor there is a fantastic lounge with huge leather Chesterfield sofas to seat 17 people, a majestic dining room to seat 20 people with its own bar area and a lovely hand built kitchen with 4 oven AGA.

The house features a 15 seat cinema in the cellar with 75 inch Smart TV. Fluffy towels and crisp white bedding are all part of the package. Outside there is private 7 seat hot tub, a large raised patio with outdoor furniture and a barbecue. There is parking for up to 5 cars.

Number One welcomes all kinds of break from hen nights to family celebrations in a variety of different length including 3 night weekends, great value 4 night mid-week deals and 7 night packages. Number One is part of The Terrace Windermere a private street of 5 large, 4 star holiday cottages available to rent either individually or in any combination sleeping from 11 to 67 guests. Number One has been rated 4 star. gold awarded by Visit Britain.

Number One is a large luxury holiday home with a big reputation.

We welcome up to 4 dogs at the property. There is an additional charge per dog, which can be added at check-out.

Another fabulous girls get away ❤️

This was our 3rd stay at No 1...we had the best time, the house is fantastic, whether you're looking for a chill in the hot tub or a movie in the cinema, it really does have everything you need and more. It was lovely and warm and beautifully decorated for christmas ..we're already booked again for 2026, looking forward to it already ❤️

Family break

A half term break for our family, so, us the grandparents, our two children and their spouses plus 6 grandchildren. We appreciated the space provided. Big hallway for all the coats and shoes. Dining room lacked personality it felt like a school room. Lounge cosy. Chandeliers throughout a bit ornate. Cinema room good fun. Kitchen was well equipped I was glad I took my own coffee machine Great AGA. Felt that location of hot tub was off putting and therefore not very inviting. Great spacious bedrooms and plenty of bathrooms Exit on to a busy road could be difficult as on a bend and I wasn’t aware the property was so close to a major road. Location otherwise was perfect for all the activities especially the walk up Orrest head which is fabulous, the walk down to the shops was great especially handy was Booths literally around the corner so easy to pop around to for any necessities. We all thoroughly enjoyed our stay

Blown away by this property!

We booked Number 1 The Terrace for our companies team building weekend and we were blown away by the property. The standard of decor blended with the original features made it one of the nicest places any of our staff had stayed in before. The layout of the rooms and furniture made it perfect for large groups. The sofa in the front room I think was the largest I've ever seen! The huge dining table made for a great dinner party in the evening. The hot tub and cinema room were also a big hit with our staff. The owners have done an amazing job with the property and you can see that much thought has gone into every little detail. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the property for any group or occasion.

Terrific Terrace

Thirteen of us had a fantastic time here to celebrate Mum and Dad’s Diamond Wedding Anniversary. The house is amazing… so much space, beautifully decorated…. Lots of equipment. Everything we needed. The location couldn’t be better for Windermere. So close to Booths, the train station, Crafty Baa, great pubs, lovely walks. Also, the weather was kind to us. Thank you for having us. X

80th birthday family get together

all the family loved the house and it was the best and a good time was had by all. The location was perfect for Windermere shops and bars and Bowness was only a short drive or a 20 minute walk which suited us all. It was the best holiday house/cottage we have stayed at.

Cousins last minute trip

Stayed at the other end terrace house the first time with family and we loved it. Thrilled that we were offered a bargain rate for the last availability for Number One for a last minute cousins trip. Great location. It’s a perfect sized, well equipped home for large groups who want to do various daytime activities and then convene in the evening for dinner and chilling. Large, clean, spacious rooms. Beds were a bit too soft for me personally and the curtains were a little dusty. Other than these minor details, I can’t fault the place. Thank you for having us!

Lovely Stay

The house is in a perfect location, a lovely walk into Windermere. The road can be loud as it is busy but didn’t bother us. The kitchen was perfectly stocked which is not always the case when renting a property. Beds were comfortable and we loved the cinema in the cellar. Only complaint was there wasn’t much ventilation in the loft bedrooms and we stayed on a hot weekend, the fire doors are incredibly heavy to prop open, that with the busy road with windows open made for a noisy night. Maybe having a fan available and a door stop would solve this. As side from this we had a lovely stay would highly recommend the house to friends and family and would happily stay again. Thank you :)

Beautiful Cottage

The cottage is in a perfect location, plenty of parking and in walking distance to shops, cafes, bars and restaurants. The cottage itself was immaculate, beautiful and roomy, There is everything you can think of in the cottage and the hot tub and cinema room was an added bonus. The bedrooms and bathrooms were good in sizes too and the bed I stayed in was very comfortable. We had lovely weather when staying here but inside the cottage was also warm and cozy so I would imagine in colder months it would still be perfect. Would definitely recommend staying here. My only negative is I am still waiting my £400 refundable damages deposit and I have had to chase this and I post 8 days of staying here. I have been told it is in process but I feel this is a long time to wait. However this is no reflection on the cottage itself.

Fantastic Stay

Our stay at No.1 The Terrace in Windermere was absolutely perfect. The house is beautifully spacious, easily accommodating our group of six, yet it still felt incredibly cosy and welcoming. Every detail has been thought through, making it a truly luxurious place to stay. The extra touches really made the experience special – the jacuzzi was perfect for unwinding after a day exploring, the private bar area made evenings feel extra fun, and the cinema room was an amazing addition for cosy nights in. The location couldn’t have been better, just a short walk into Windermere and close to everything we needed. The house was also spotlessly clean, which made our stay even more comfortable. From the moment we booked, the communication was fantastic – clear, helpful, and responsive, which made everything so easy. If you’re looking for a stunning house with fantastic amenities in a perfect location, I can’t recommend No.1 The Terrace highly enough. We will definitely be back!

A great house for a gathering

The house was really large and had everything we needed for a birthday weekend away. It was warm and comfortable, with easy parking, and with very easy access to Windermere and Orrest Head. The only negative was that the room 6 bed wasn’t as comfortable as the others. Unfortunately the immediate neighbours decided not to finish their hot tub partying until 5am which was far beyond our staying power, but we wouldn’t have noticed their nighttime noise had they moved indoors. All in all, a great house for a get-together.

Wonderful family retreat

We had an amazing time celebrating our parents golden wedding anniversary. The house is spacious and ideal for entertaining. The location is brilliant and in close proximity to some amazing restaurants. Andy, the owner was incredibly responsive to any queries we had. We will be back!

Great place to stay in Windermere

Number one The Terrace is an excellent property for a large group of people looking to stay in the lakes. It has everything you need for self catered accommodation; plenty of space to relax, nice big kitchen and utility, comfy and spacious bedrooms, bathrooms with everything you’d expect, and a hot tub and cinema room for good measure. Everything at the property worked as expected, with the exception of the WiFi in the cinema room in the basement. We just weren’t able to get a consistent connection to stream a film. But don’t let this put you off, if you’re anything like us you’ll be out enjoying everything the lakes have to offer anyway!

Family stay in Windermere

We absolutely loved our family holiday to No One The Terrace. The house was brilliant, plenty of room for us, children, grandchildren and dogs to chill out . Superb location, close to restaurants and shops and quick drive away to some lovely places to visit.. time went far too quick and everyone loved it. We definitely stay again.

Family Birthday Gathering No1

No1 met all our expectations, it is a lovely house for a family celebration. The garden was safe for our family dog. The location is perfect for bus and train stations but if you wanted a quiet countryside location this is not the property for you as it is situated on a busy main road. We did however enjoy the outside space for dining. Would recommend to all.

Great location and house

We stayed at 1 The Terrace to host a hen do and it was the perfect house for a wholesome hen do for 14 people. The rooms were all a great size and this was matched by the living space too. The hot tub and the cinema room were a great bonus as well!

The Terrace Windermere

Andy was excellent providing a lot of information about check in process and places to visit at Lake District. Wonderful large house. Amazing kitchen and cinema room! Kitchen was fully equipped. Comfortable beds. Hot-tub was a bonus! Less than 2 minutes walk from the Windermere station and supermarkets, less than 5 minutes walk to town and 20 minutes walk to marina, 30 minutes tourist bus ride to Ambleside etc at £2 a journey. Very convenient location with lots of hikes. Quiet corner plot although next to the station and main road. Will definitely stay again. T group, July 2023

Great House, great holiday

My family meet in Windermere every year and come in from all over the world. We usually stay at Boston House, but this year we had to try Number One. Even though some of the family had to cancel due to illness, everyone still had a wonderful time. They actually preferred Number One to Boston House (just) which I never thought I'd hear them say. Great house, great hosts and an amazing location. See you next year!

Andrew and Barbara Cheetham 'collected' all 5 houses on The Terrace over a period of 10 years. The properties were built for the owners of The Windermere-Kendal railway. This is the first time all 5 have been under one ownership since they were built in the 1850s.
