Dotty's Cottage - Stow-in-the-Wold

Spend time exploring the beautiful Cotswolds from this stylish Stow-on-the-Wold cottage. Just a hop skip and a jump from the high street you can browse boutique shops, dine out and explore this picturesque town.

Dotty's Cottage combines the old with the new, original exposed beams sit alongside bright panelled walls and Cotswold stone complements neutral decor. Each room has a refreshing, airy feel with open plan living areas on the ground floor and tranquil en-suite bedrooms on the first. A woodburning stove adds to the cosy atmosphere in the sitting room and there is space to either sit and read with a cup of coffee or curl up and watch TV. The eye-catching kitchen/diner is brought to life in shades of green with a gorgeous dining area and kitchen space which has a handy breakfast bar for quick meals and snacks. Both bedrooms have a double bed and showcase the beams and exposed stone and through sliding doors are spa-like en-suite shower rooms.

This charming cottage has a private courtyard garden to the rear which you can enjoy throughout the day. Start here with breakfast and a cup of coffee in the sun and step out in the evening for a glass of champagne around the firepit. There is a bistro set for two and space for four to sit around a coffee table.

Ground Floor

Two armchairs sit in front of the woodburning stove where you can share some wine and enjoy an evening of conversation. Gathering by the TV there is a two-seater sofa, two stools and a window seat. It is a lovely space to watch a film or curl up with a book, learning more about the local area and planning your next day out. Hidden just off the sitting room is a utility cupboard where you find the washing machine and tumble dryer.

Kitchen/Dining Room
The sitting room opens through to the kitchen diner which has a fabulous splash of green panelling. This stylish room is made for cooking meals together with an oven and hob, kettle and toaster, fridge/freezer and a coffee machine. Whether you just have a quick breakfast at the bar or a more formal sit down meal together this is a light and bright room where you can spend time together. Up a couple of steps are French doors out to the garden, open these to allow you to step out for evening drinks.

High marks in the Cotswolds

Four of us (2 couples) enjoyed our stay at Dottie's Cottage. High marks for the cleanliness, high standard of the fittings, and walking distance to central Stow-on-the-Wold. Good communication and check-in, checkout process. Something to be aware of is the location is on a main road. Even with thick walls and double glazing, it can be loud in the middle of the night. Definitely tolerable in exchange for a central location.

Comfortable, characterful cottage in a central location but very very noisy and hot

The cottage is very well located for Stow being just off the main street. Parking outside isn't always possible but we easily found a space on the road nearby. The cottage is very characterful and comfortable/ well kitted out in terms of beds, appliances, etc., and was a good base for two of us for two nights. Welcome guide was helpful. Potential downsides to it depending on what matters to visitors: very very noisy being right next to the Fosse Way - the traffic didn't stop at all so it was hard to sleep. There's limited storage in the bedrooms and in the kitchen so if you're staying a while it might be tricky. Superficially clean but could do with a thorough clean and some maintenance - cobwebs everywhere, dirty windows, grouting missing or black in places, dirt in various places e.g. on the sealant around sinks, on the shower wall/ floor, visible signs of leaks and other maintenance needs. Courtyard garden not a great place to sit - lots of bins, lots of weeds. Way too hot - 10.5 tog duvet in a very warm house when it's 18 degrees outside and the sun is blaring through the windows is far from ideal! Had to make use of the aircon unit in April so hate to think what it might be like in the summer. Underfloor heating I'm sure is lovely in the winter but when it's spring and sunny it just felt way too hot and we had to keep opening doors and windows. We did turn radiators off and tried to adjust the bathroom underfloor heating but it was still hot.
