The Retreat - 5 Bedroom House - Horton
Nestled in the heart of the Gower Peninsula—Britain’s first designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty—The Retreat in Horton offers the perfect coastal escape for families and friends seeking style, space, and serenity. Stay Gower is proud to present this beautifully refurbished home, meticulously updated both inside and out to create an inviting haven just 300 meters stroll from Horton Beach. With its golden sands, clear waters, and sweeping views, Horton is one of Gower’s most beloved spots, ideal for swimming, paddleboarding, or simply soaking in the coastal tranquillity.
This spacious property welcomes groups of up to twelve guests across five luxurious bedrooms, with ample parking for four or more cars on the private driveway. Additionally there is a 7kw EV charger that can be used free of charge between the hours of 11.30pm to 5.30am. Every detail has been carefully considered to combine modern comfort with the natural beauty of the surroundings. Inside, the open-plan kitchen and dining room form the social heart of the home. French doors open onto the rear garden, letting the coastal breeze and sunshine fill the space as you dine at the large twelve-seater table. The contemporary kitchen, complete with a central island and brand-new appliances, is perfectly equipped for everything from a hearty family breakfast to an elegant evening meal. A wood-burning stove and striking local artwork add warmth and charm, ensuring that even rainy days feel special.
The living room offers a calm, sophisticated retreat, with two generous leather sofas, a deep armchair, and a large smart TV for cosy evenings in. French doors frame views of the garden and the sea beyond, creating a seamless link between indoor comfort and outdoor beauty. The downstairs bathroom feels like a boutique spa, complete with a claw-foot bath, double sinks, and a separate walk-in shower—perfect for unwinding after a day exploring the cliffs and coves of Gower.
Upstairs, all rear facing bedroom windows have views out over the ocean and the first-floor landing provides a peaceful nook where you can relax and gaze out over the sea as well. The master bedroom features a super king-sized bed, stylish furnishings, and a wall-mounted TV, while two further bedrooms on this floor offer king beds, ensuring everyone enjoys a restful night’s sleep. Two modern bathrooms with walk-in showers complete this level, making morning routines effortless for larger groups. On the top floor, two more bedrooms—each with both a king and a single bed—provide flexible sleeping arrangements for families, with views stretching across the bay and countryside.
Outside, The Retreat’s landscaped garden and raised terrace are ideal for morning coffee or evening drinks as the sun sets over the sea. The sandy shores of Horton Beach (dog friendly all year round) are just a short walk away, and the vibrant seaside village of Port Eynon—with its restaurants, cafés, and beachfront bars—is only a few minutes’ drive. Beyond that, the Gower Peninsula invites exploration: surf the famous waves of Rhossili Bay, discover the hidden coves of Oxwich and Three Cliffs, or walk the breathtaking coastal paths that reveal new vistas at every turn.
Whether you’re here to unwind, celebrate, or explore, The Retreat in Horton offers a luxurious base from which to experience the very best of the Gower coast—a place where comfort meets natural beauty, and every stay feels truly special.

Upto 2 dogs on request and general dog rules apply to the house and Horton beach is dog friendly all year around.

About the local area -
Horton is a quietly enchanting village on the south coast of the Gower Peninsula, nestled halfway down a hillside that rolls gently towards the sea. It shares the beautiful curve of Port Eynon Bay, offering a peaceful retreat surrounded by some of the most breathtaking scenery in South Wales. This part of Gower is part of Britain’s first designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, renowned for its unspoiled coastline, golden beaches, and rich wildlife.
The heart of Horton’s charm lies in its tranquillity and natural beauty. A short walk from the village takes you to Horton Beach, also known locally as The Cove—a wide, sandy bay that keeps its soft sand even at high tide. It’s ideal for swimming, paddleboarding, or a lazy afternoon in the sun. During the summer months, lifeguards are on duty, making it a safe and family-friendly beach. The bay is also a favourite with surfers, especially when the tides and winds align, producing smooth, consistent waves.
For those who love walking, Horton is perfectly placed for exploring the Gower coast path. Heading east will take you toward the quiet and secluded sands of Slade and then on to Oxwich Bay, while walking west brings you to the lively seaside village of Port Eynon. Both routes offer breathtaking cliff-top views, wildflower meadows, and the occasional sighting of seabirds or even seals.
Because Horton sits within the Gower Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the surrounding landscape is protected and pristine. Within a short drive or scenic walk, you’ll find some of the UK’s most celebrated beaches: the sweeping sands of Port Eynon, the dramatic cliffs of Three Cliffs Bay, the tranquil beauty of Oxwich Bay, and the iconic vistas of Rhossili Bay. Each offers its own character and charm, from family-friendly coves to wild surf spots.
When it comes to eating out, Horton itself is a quiet village, but you’ll find a selection of pubs, cafés, and restaurants just a few minutes away. In nearby Port Eynon, there are traditional seaside fish and chip shops, beach cafés, and welcoming pubs that serve hearty food and local ales. For something a little more refined, head a short distance across the peninsula to the Southgate area, where you’ll find cosy gastro pubs serving fresh seafood and local Welsh produce. The Britannia Inn in Llanmadoc and The Greyhound Inn further inland are well-known favourites, offering delicious home-cooked meals and a warm, friendly atmosphere.
For those looking to explore, the Gower’s network of coastal paths, hidden coves, and scenic drives make every day an adventure. Whether you spend your time surfing, walking, swimming, or simply relaxing with a view of the ocean, Horton offers a truly special blend of coastal beauty, peace, and authentic Welsh charm.
