Wonderful property for a family of 6 adults. Walkable to Gion with many restaurants nearby. Best Ramen of our trip was at a local restaurant recommended by host. Communication was always very fast and property had everything we needed. Would highly recommend.

Helpful manager, great house, super location

Tucked away and quiet, but with good walking access to the city. House was well apppointed and comfortable. Would definitely stay again.

Clean and good location

Our family of 8 really enjoyed the stay. There are many things to like about this home. To be clear, the “barbecue grill” is a tiny cooking drawer in the stove (not an outdoor grill) and the outdoor space is rock garden (not a usable area for the family) as a zen visual area. Overall we would consider staying here again.

Kyoto stay

We had a wonderful time in Kyoto despite train delay due to typhoon! Our host was very easy to communicate with. The house was perfect for 3 couples . Clean . Location to restaurants and sightseeing perfect! Getting Uber rides also very easy! We wished we could have stayed longer!

Perfect spot for our Kyoto stay

On our recent Japan trip (Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka), we chose this VRBO spot for the Kyoto segment. The other cities were in 5 star hotle properties (Intercontinental and Conrad). Unlike the hotel, this place added to the authentic feel of a quaint Japanese residential neighbourhood situated close to the main attractions without behind inside the hustle/bustle areas. Our party had 7 people and his spot accomodated all of us comfortably. I would recommend this place without hesitation.

This home was in the perfect location and had all the amenities a group would need.

I was a little hesitant as this is the first time I have traveled to Kyoto. Truly the home sits less than five walking minutes to several of the places one would want to see on a first visit. Out of the way, safe, quiet, clean, brand new, easily accessible to all types of transit and easy to check into. I would highly recommend it to anyone with a group of 5 or more.

The house was beautiful and very cultural of Kyoto. Lots of local shops and restaurants within walking distance. The house is right down the street from the famous Ninenzaka and a short walk from the Kiyomizu Temple. The staff was also very friendly and accommodating. I needed a ticket printed out and they were very quick in printing it out and delivering it to the house. I would highly recommend this place and would definitely stay again. Thank you so much!

Perfect accommodations for a family of 5

My wife and I and 3 adult kids enjoyed staying at Kyo Machiya. It's a very traditional Japanese house with Tatami mats in the bedrooms and futons on the floors of the (2) 2nd floor bedrooms. The house is very clean, modern furnishings and in a great location for visiting Kyoto. Only recommendation would be to provide a larger coach somewhere on the 1st floor for relaxing at the end of the day, but we were so tired after walking all day that this was not a problem for us. We will definitely stay at this house the next time we are in Kyoto.

Lovely House

Everything was great. Easy check in. Clean. Lots of space. It's a traditional Japanese residence in a typical residential neighborhood. So it's all beautiful and feels authentic - down a tiny little alley - because that's what Japan is. It's accessible by a couple of bus lines that are pretty frequent but they are busses and often crowded. That's about the only downside.

Peaceful, convenient. Just plain perfection.

From online booking to check in it went very smooth. I was a bit nervous as it was my first international booking (from USA). Only issue we had was on our part and our google map - had us 2 doors down. Host graciously came to our rescue. House was clean, up to date. Host made sure we knew how to use everything. Highly recommend

Great location, comfortable stay.

This home was spotless, well suited for a family of 4 and in a great location for exploring Kyoto. The hosts were very helpful w booking taxis and dinner reservations. You can walk to many Kyoto sites within 30 minutes or less. Getting out early is highly recommended to avoid massive crowds, this house is very well suited for that. The house itself is simple yet beautiful. It was our first time in Japan so a few things surprised us but we got used to them very quickly and in fact even enjoyed the "minimalism" after a couple of days (no couch, single beds, one pillow per bed etc.). Overall a great stay in a quiet and clean house with comfortable beds in a 10 out of 10 location.

Incredible stay at a beautiful machiya

The host(s) of this Vrbo were extremely helpful and communicative before, during and after our stay. We just wish we had stayed here longer! We have always wanted to stay at a machiya home and this one was beautiful crafted with shoji screens and tatami rooms. The best part of our stay was watching snow fall from the living/kitchen area into the garden/atrium area. What a sight that was! A huge bonus was the close proximity to bus stops, convenience stores, and yummy food/restaurants. It was a bit crowded near the Kiyomizu-dera area nearby but the location was off the main path so we were able to enjoy peace and quiet at the house. Thank you for letting us stay in your beautiful home. Would highly recommend!

The place was in a great location, on a quiet street in the middle of the busy Gion area. Ideal for wandering around early morning or later in the evening without crowds.The place itself was very clean and had all the amenities one could want. Toilets were easy to use, a new experience for us North Americans!The hosts were incredibly responsive and helped recommend restaurants, arranged a walking tour of Higashiyama, and even helped try to find a store to fix my cell phone!It was very comforting having great communication with the host in a new city with my young family.We spent 7 nights here and it was fantastic.I would definitely encourage staying at this place.

Close to Gion area and accessible to bus stops

The house is very accessible to bus stops which helps a lot in going around Kyoto. It is also walking distance to Gion area. The house is very comfortable for our family five. The owner is also very helpful and prompt when answering our questions. The only thing that I find negative is when they put our bags and things out already when we came from our walk even if we still have 2-3 minutes to spare before 11:00am. I felt we were evicted out of the property and that kind of ruined my Kyoto experience

Very nice

We are from overseas and really enjoyed the accommodation. It was very comfortable and easy to get around the sightseeing locations. Overall it was very pleasant experience.

It`s very nice house

全程体验京都的本地生活。非常干净，舒适。接待我们的人也非常周到。超市很近，而且是24小时，非常方便。真希望下次再来。 Experience the local life of Kyoto throughout the journey. Very clean and comfortable. The people who received us were also very thoughtful. The supermarket is very close and it is 24 hours, very convenient. I really hope to come back next time.

I liked the typical 'eel' shape as called in Kyoto (the front side is not so wide and the house extends in length). I thought it could be so nice to preserve this townhouse and make our guests even for few days to live as Kyoto people lived for centuries with traditions plus a more today comfort in the daily house use.
