Peaceful & Secluded Cabin

My husband, myself , our adult sons & dogs had a wonderful time. The cabin sits on a gorgeous, clean lake with a long stretch of waterfront. We enjoyed the kayaks and the fire pit.

Beautiful location with lots of privacy

The lake access was incredible, one of the nicest we’ve stayed. Beautiful views of the mountains and multiple access points to the lake with sandy beaches plus a dock. The cabin is rustic as the description states but it was perfect for our needs. There was an issue with mice that was a nuisance but not enough to deter from all the positives the property offered. Would definitely visit again.

This is a true Adirondack experience! Beautiful lakefront sanded beach, cute rustic cabin with an outside screened in porch to getaway from those biting horse flies. I enjoyed listening to the lakes waves in the early morning and the loons at nights. Perfect spot for the dogs, we enjoyed swimming and boating in the lake. Plenty of boats, canoes and kayaks to choose from. No need for a fenced yard it’s very secluded, you drive at least 2 miles back on a very private dirt road. Peaceful serenity! I recommended bringing your own fan for those hot humid summer days but very cool and comfortable at night. Also lots of bug spray! I did not want to leave, it was truly a home away from home. I would definitely come back again! Loved it!

Old School Comfort

Cabin was cozy and close to the water affording great views of the lake from the large porch. Lots of beds and a Adirondack feel finished with the propane lights. We instantly felt comfortable like it was our own place. The yard is huge and well maintained with plenty of firewood to keep a fire going all night. I slept on the screened in porch listening to loons at night. We will be back

Off grid but surreal!

Quiet and amazing! The sunrise views are perfect! Get away to the perfect off grid location! Generator for occasional power, propane fridge and stove. The perfect camp for the family who wants to step away from the busyness of life, without going full on camping.

Perfect Spring Weekend!

Cannot say enough great things about this property. Located right on the lake with kayaks, croquet, camp chairs, books galore, board games, and a fire pit at-the-ready, we had the best stay. The screened porches were key with the bugs, but there was also citronella available to use. As avid campers, we had no issues with the somewhat rustic cabin. The detailed instructions were incredibly helpful and Karen was lovely to communicate with as a host. Would love to return!

Great getaway

My wife and I had a great time during our stay. While the weather didn't end up being great we were able to have a fire the first night and enjoy the full moon. The property is beautiful and we are looking forward to coming back next year in some warmer weather. The camp was comfortable and the propane heaters kept us nice and warm.

Perfect Adirondacks getaway

My husband and I and our two children (ages 9 and 7) enjoyed ten days of relaxation in the Lakeside Cottage in September 2020. The cottage is, as expected, rustic yet charming and functional, and the expanse of outdoor space along the lakeshore is unparalleled. Although we experienced a few unseasonably chilly days and nights for September, we enjoyed canoeing, fishing, croquet, campfires, wading, hiking, and just relaxing and staring at the lake and sky. We were glad to have stocked up on groceries in Plattsburgh early on in the week, as it’s a bit of a drive to any significant shopping options. Owner was very easy to communicate with and responded quickly to issues. We would stay here again in a heartbeat. We miss the loons.

Serene & fun

Great Labor Day vacation! Beautiful spot tucked away on the lake. The kids loved the huge yard and we all enjoyed kayaking and canoeing. Waking up to the beautiful sunrises and seeing the Moon come out was so nice. Great stay and great spot! Explore NY!

A true Adirondack experience

Driving through the woods we saw two owls fly across the road and land in a tree up ahead. Arriving at camp the woods opened to the most spectacular lawn and lakefront on all of Upper Chateaugay. Everyone grabbed a bag and headed across a tiny stone bridge, past lush ferns, and stands of white birch. Our youngest reached down and cupped a toad In her hands showing it off to us. The first kid to the front porch open the screen door and the sound took me back to my childhood. My shoulders relaxed downward. The kids explored then ran down to the beach, swam it to the raft, laughed and talked, and forgot about social media. Each day unfolded peacefully- coffee in rockers by the lake, a kayak ride, swimming, yard games, planning the evening meal (we love to cook!) The kids went water skiing and tubing in the afternoon while we played cards, did crossword puzzles, and laughed at old family stories. The old fashioned propane lamps gave ambiance to nighttime reminiscing and set the tone for a quiet, deep sleep after our last walk to the beach to point out constellations and listen to the loons. If you are seeking a magical place to unwind and connect with all that matters to you, to nature, to quiet... then this is the Adirondack camp and mountain ringed lake for you! Also, Karen Heath was wonderful to work with and really cared about our stay in this place she and her family have shared for years.

Serene and beautiful

The pictures do not do this property justice. The cabin is spectacular and very inviting. The property is breath taking and there is always something fun to do ( kayaking, canoeing, hiking, etc.) or you can just relax and take in the beautiful view. Karen was super easy to get in touch with and very helpful. We will definitely be going back.

Paradise found!

What an incredible week we had at Lakeside Cottage! It is the perfect family get away…ideal for energetic kids with a mowed meadow large enough for lots of activity…the dock/swimming raft were perfect for fishing, lazing in the sun…we kayaked, and canoed/rowed…lots more fishing…campfires…inviting Adk. chairs and rockers…gazing at the beautiful lake and mountain vista. The grounds were incredible! The cottage had all the amenities of home and more…off the grid…so comfortable with all the sleeping areas to choose from…the sleeping porches were incredible…get away from the bugs (yes, they were a bit brutal at times)…but, had so many options with the numerous porches to lounge…reading, games, listening to the many birds and the haunting but beautiful call of the loons to fall asleep by! Just glorious! Make sure you bring enough food…books, etc…you won't want to leave…it's the perfect get away…rejuvenation…laying on the hammock gazing at the water through the birches…enjoying the breeze…it has so much to offer for everyone! We hit the lotto on this cottage and all its' offerings…paradise found!

Our favourite place!

This quaint cottage on a large lakefront property is our favourite place to vacation. It allows you to feel the rustic comfort of cottaging yet with the luxury of a vast and private lot spanning the shoreline of a lake which is unbelievably peaceful for its size. Deep in the woods, you can finally unwind to a degree that is almost impossible for those of us used to the hustle and bustle of big city living. With our sixth summer stay recently concluded, we are already looking forward to next year (and so is our dog who sulks for the first few days of being home).

Imagen de perfil del propietario o de la propietaria
Our family has been coming to the lake for nearly 60 years. We own the two adjacent houses (a contemporary and a classic Adirondack Lodge) and can rent all 3 houses, which sleep, collectively, over 30 people.
We live in various parts of the country, the closest in Vermont, and have a multi-generation gathering every summer at the lake to relax, swim, paddle, do yoga, cook great meals, read books, and mostly just enjoy each other. It is our absolute favorite place to be!

Por qué escogió este alojamiento

Watch the sunrise from your bed, take a midnight dip in the lake on a hot night, sit by the fire as it gets dark, relax on the dock or in an Adirondack chair while the kids play in the water, lie in the hammock and read, take a mountain bike ride through the woods, explore the lake by kayak or canoe.....

Qué hace que este alojamiento sea especial

Chateaugay Lake itself is incredible special--uncrowded, clean, serene, quiet, with lovely mountains around. And this property has one of the nicest, most private waterfronts on the lake. The house was built in the 1930's on a site right on the lake, which would never be allowed now due to setback regulations. You can lie in the upstairs bedroom and watch the reflection of the sun on the lake dancing on the ceiling, or sit on the porch and watch kids play in the lake.
