The “roof leak” he references was not a roof issue at all—it was a broken radiator valve after he tampered with it, cranking it down with enough force to snap the handle off the stem. We had to deploy emergency maintenance to stop the water. All radiators are thermostat-controlled, as clearly outlined in our welcome packet. Regarding the “second unit,” he is referring to the owner’s quarters where my family was staying. There are secure locks on both sides of that door. Notably, when we addressed his concerns, he made an inappropriate comparison, stating “even Jeffrey Dahmer had a family,” which speaks for itself. As for the washing machine, the water line froze during a period of severe cold. We immediately offered to cover laundromat costs (which is only 1/4 mile from the house). Timothy declined & instead demanded over $500 for brand-new clothing for his children. Overall, Timothy was an extremely difficult guest. He disregarded house rules, left the property in unacceptable condition with food on counters & in the sink, ripped a coat rack off the wall, & scattered games and toys throughout the house. After causing damage, he requested a full refund. I strongly encourage readers to weigh that context carefully. VRBO owners may want to think twice

Before giving Barbara’s review too much consideration, Barbara’s rant review matches her complaining character. She is a person who enjoys complaining and will never be satisfied. This house has been rented to more than 100 guests over the last decade with raving reviews. Prior to the renovation, Barbara booked our home for her holiday stay. She clearly was excited for her trip by sending an overwhelming amount of questions and comments between her booking in July to her stay in December. In the fall, the house was completely renovated and Barbara‘s early booking was locked in at the old price. While we could have canceled, we honored lower rate. We told her we just needed additional security to better protect our new investment. Weeks ahead of checking in, she balked at the number of pots and pans in the house. There are more than 10 different pots and pans in the cabinets and asked ridiculous questions, like if the house had a can opener and a corkscrew (yes, of course it does). She also gave us a hard time about the house’s no shoes policy. I guess she enjoys wet socks and stained carpets. When there was a plumbing issue, the plumber was scheduled right away and the issue was remedied. According to the plumber, Barbara didn’t know how to operate the temperature controls on the shower. My cleaning service confirmed with photos all beds were made and ample linens were provided. Barbara checked out several hours after the check out time and proceeded to verbally accost my cleaning service while they were cleaning the house. Her complaints about the security deposit are unfounded as VRBO controls the timing of the security deposit release, allowing time for owners to inspect the premises. Barbara insisted VRBO return her security prior to my inspection of the property. When reading Barbara’s review, please consider she is a stage 5 serial-complainer. All prospective tenants will find much more accuracy of the house when reading other guest’s reviews.
