Wow! First of all the property was absolutely stunning and so magical with the views, the incredible home and the amenities that were available. But what made the place over the top special was Sammy and just the incredible soul that he is! We not only were helped with everything we needed for our group of 14, but we were also helped with any other thoughts or questions we had. Thank you so much for such an wonderful stay. We will be back for sure.

Wonderful vacation!

The VRBO pictures of the property were beautiful…but seeing the real thing in person was stunning!! Sammy was an amazing host and we loved our stay. It was perfect for my daughter’s wedding reception.

Wedding stay

Stayed here as we prepared for our wedding. We loved this place. Definitely worth every cent. They were so amazing with communication about all the features and quick to respond. I will rememver this trip forwver.

Paradise for real

We stayed with our kids and grandkids, 14 of us total. The home was a true paradise! Everything was more than we expected. The hosts were amazing anytime we had questions. We can't wait to go back and I would very highly recommend this home. Absolutely loved our stay!!

Great location for relaxation

This home has everything!! The location, view amenities, privacy, pergola, dance/yoga pavilion, the space in general is amazing! We had a family group of 16 and could not have asked for anything better! Super fun family adventure! Thank you!!

A quiet retreat

Our host, Sammy, was amazing and welcoming. He managed to be present yet invisible all at the same time and the home offered everything we needed for a productive working retreat with some relaxation when possible. Nui ka mahalo iā ʻoe e Sammy a me Ka Māla o Kīlauea.

Paradise

Staying at Sammy’s home was a life-changing experience. The entire property is spectacular; phenomenal views, the enchanting sounds of the coqui frogs and passing rain, and surrounded by nature’s beauty. The house is well stocked and beautifully renovated with moments around every corner to be appreciated. Watching the sunset from the pool and hot tub was the perfect way to end a long day of adventures. Far better than staying in a hotel. Best Vrbo rental and host…we will return for sure!

AMAZING!!!!

Sammy was the most amazing host for our group of 18 (high school volleyball team)! We have stayed at a lot of team houses and this might be our favorite. The beds were so comfortable. The kitchen was well stocked to cook meals for our group size. The views and the pool were so relaxing! The property was gorgeous! Everything was so comfy and perfect. Sammy setup yoga for our team upon arrival which was phenomenal. And the last day, our plans had to change and he let us extend our check out time which was a huge help to the group. Thank you so much for an amazing time!!!

Big love for Big Island get away

Our family of 13 (ages 12-75) thoroughly enjoyed our stay on this beautiful property! The host Sammy was very communicative and had the house looking like a movie scene when we arrived. The interior is beautifully decorated, and there was even a Christmas tree! The house has good airflow throughout, and there are ceiling and stationary fans to assist when needed. The kitchen is not only gorgeous but very well stocked, and the fresh fruit (and juicer!) were a good touch. The pool and hot tub were welcome amenities, and there were pool supplies and towels provided. The grounds were fun to explore, and my kids enjoyed the horses and friendly cats. We found beautiful black sand beaches not far away but otherwise trips to the National Park, Hilo, Mauna Loa and Kona are a little bit of a drive away. The nearby town of Pahoa has what you need for groceries, restaurants and great food trucks. Would come here again and again!

Beautiful, spacious, and relaxing!

This might be the most relaxing place I’ve ever been. Our first large family vacation (mom, siblings, and our respective families) in a very long time, we weren’t sure how it would be staying in one house together for over a week. 😉The property has so much space and places to just “be” that we never felt crowded. Even better, we were all able to relax and hang out at our leisure, go on day trips to Hilo or National and State parks. There was plenty to do, even if it was tempting not to leave the house. Everything about this property was just gorgeous. The landscaping was incredible, especially for a family from such a different climate. The owners have obviously put a lot of care into the property. The coqui frogs at night were absurdly loud - not a complaint. It added to the feeling that we were someplace amazing and different. The geckos were also very popular with my family. They were everywhere. We had an amazing time and I would highly recommend this property for those looking to relax and maybe not try to cram too much into your days. I just think it would be a shame to rent the property and not enjoy it. Finally, Sammy was incredibly helpful and responsive to all of my questions. Much appreciated!!

Beautiful Location. But it doesn't quite work.

The property is set in the beautiful and lush rainforest of Hawaii near the town of Pahoa. The hosts are kind and gracious. The people are nice. The views are gorgeous, the pool is amazing, and the decorations at the property are wonderful. That said, it makes for a stressful vacation for 3 reasons: 1)Bugs. Lots and lots of bugs. To be clear, this is a rainforest, and bugs are problem. But loose fitting screens, gaps in windows, and general disrepair makes for lots of insects in the home. 2)Humidity. There's no AC at the property. Fine for an eco-retreat. Not great for a true vacation. It's fine if that's what you're into, but it was hard to sleep on damp, sweaty sheets. 3) Finicky equipment. Everything's a bit run down. The pool/hot tub situation requires a small hike, and some hard-to-remember instructions. I forgot to turn off the pool heater and incurred a hefty additional charge. I was warned. So it was my fault. Better solution: an alternative setup so that the warning isn't necessary.

Thank you Mike for taking the time to leave us a review. We are so happy that you too love Pahoa town, the lush rainforest, the brand new salt water pool and our homes decor. We are constantly working to upgrade the property since we purchased three years ago. We Also appreciate your gracious comments about us. As for your stresses around your stay we are truly sorry for your experience. Earlier this year we started hosting guest on other vacation rental sites and have received twenty 5 Star reviews so your experience left us feeling very bad for your experience. We pride ourselves on communication with our guest to make sure they are comfortable and happy at our home but sadly we were never able to establish this with you. We totally understand how busy one can be before their trip and certainly during but establishing lines of communication can ensure your stay is the best it can be. 1. As for Bugs: We just replaced all screens in the home however the screens on the main door is easy to damage as guest routinely walk into them. There were loose after your visit and had to be repaired so maybe one of your guest walked into it by accident. As for loose fitting windows we have double pane windows through out the home that were professionally installed. As for general disrepair we have been constantly upgrading the property and address any issues immediately. Our kitchen is showing signs of wear and is being remodeled in just a couple of weeks. However with this being said we had a screen company out this week to ensure that all of our screens are in working order. 2. No AC: We are sorry that you felt the home was extremely humid. We are located 500 feet above sea level which allows us to enjoy the cooling tradewinds that cool the home to 68-70 degrees in the evening.During the day when the windows and doors are open we get gentle breezes through the house. The ceiling and floor fans in each room have managed to keep all of our other guest happy and cool. With that being said our biggest question is why would you rent a home that clearly says there is NO AC and than complain about it? 3. Finicky equipment: Our pool and pool system is brand new and is one of our guest favorite things about the property. The system is fully manual except for pressing one button on the heater to switch to spa mode when you want to use it and one button when you are finished. As far as a hike to turn on and off? The pump room is a 20 foot walk from the upper patio.

We had our wedding here and had this act as our homebase for the week. Sammy was extremely accommodating, helpful and went above and beyond our expectations. Not only was the place absolutely beautiful, but it also felt like a little home away from home. Peaceful, comfortable, and truly breathtaking. Surrounded by incredible views, we used the pool every single day, and the event itself was magnificent, all thanks to our gracious hosts for their recommendations and accommodations. We both have large families and this house comfortably fit everyone and then some. We will always remember this place and look forward to returning again!

Amazing property, wonderful host

Words cannot describe how amazing our experience was at Punya. To start, Sammy was an incredible host. Prior to and throughout our trip Sammy was easily accessible, answered all of our questions and was so kind and welcoming. We were so appreciative and in awe of hearing about the property’s and area’s history and inception. His hard work, passion and love of the land radiates throughout the property. The property itself is phenomenal–it is set on beautiful Pahoa land with amazing plants, vegetation and with majestic and friendly animals. The home is spacious and was very comfortable for our large group of 7 adults and 4 children. The decor throughout the home and property is beautiful, thoughtful and creates a spiritual ambience. The kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed to prepare and enjoy our family meals. All of the rooms were also well stocked with towels, sheets and supplies. These made for perfect adventurous day trips or “chill time” at the property. And of course…the pool and hot tub…a definite highlight for all of us on this phenomenal trip. Lastly, Sammy allowed us to host a 50th anniversary party for our parents at Punya. All of our guests were in awe of the beauty and comfort of the property. We were also able to have a fire dance performance that was elevated by the exquisiteness of Punya. We are so grateful to have had this amazing family experience at Punya. We very much hope to return in the future!

Hawaiian Thanksgiving

Sammy IS an amazing host. He was there when we arrived and greeted us with a very warm Aloha welcome. After giving us a quick tour, he left us to enjoy the lush Zen gardens, beautiful orchards, stunning ocean views, and extremely clean mansion! The beds were so comfortable! Every part of the house was super clean and made for relaxation. The breeze was so sweet and cooled the entire house! The sunrise and sunset views were breathtaking. We picked papayas, guava, kumquats, and limes from the backyard orchard every morning. The pool and hot tub was perfect for days to unwind after short trips to Kona, Volcano National Park, and the Hakuna Coast. Sammy went over and beyond with hospitality even sharing our love for avocados! Thank you Sammy for your lovely personality and opening up your home to us. This Thanksgiving was full of many blessings and meeting you was one of them! Mahalo.
