My husband and I travel often. We're very used to the ins and outs of rental units. We understand that things are rarely perfect and the experience of travel usually outweighs any flaws in a rental property.
That being said, we had a truly terrible experience at this rental.
Though the spot is in a great location and the house itself is as described, we were severely disappointed in the cleanliness of the home. The first mild issue was the amount of pet hair on the sheets, pillows, and blankets in the bedroom. Listen, we get it. It's a pet-friendly unit. Expecting it to be free of pet hair is absurd. We have a dog; we brought our dog. He never stepped foot into the bedroom and was crated overnight in the living room. So, it wasn't his hair.
This we could get over, though, we did mention it to our host and she did say something along the lines of "pet hair gets stuck on the sheets when they're washed" and directed us where to find other sheets.
The biggest issue was the dried feces my husband found under the bed. We assume this was dog or cat, but we didn't investigate further to find out which. I reported this to the host in the morning (we found this late at night our first night). She was apologetic, though delayed in response. She also said she can understand why someone would have missed this as part of the cleaning routine but that it was, and I quote, "unacceptable."
She said she'd compensate us and we started discussing what was fair. We were staying three nights -- because dried feces is a health concern, I asked if we could have a full night refund, as we did not like paying for a space that had a hazard like that.
She said something along the lines of that she'd be happy to compensate us for the issue. I messaged her when we checked out.
5 hours after we had checked out and sent a message about it, she requested photos. We had checked out, so, I did not have photos on hand. She took another day to respond.
She said she needed to investigate the issues before giving us a refund and then said the sheets were fine and she didn't find any hazardous issues.
I don't have the time or energy to argue with her, I don't foresee the refund happening, and it's likely these complaints will be tossed aside because I don't have photos to "prove" these issues. I have no reason to be dishonest about these problems. Just wanted to give every one a heads up who might want to stay here that you might be dealing with dried feces.
