Nice gated property in a peaceful location perfect for relaxing. Many little touches of added convenience in this home away from home. Loved listening to the sounds of nature at night as we fell asleep and coffee with the geckos in the morning. Would definitely stay again next time we visit the Big Island.

Beautiful bungalow

Great location to experience locale

We had a wonderful time here and got to experience living like locals! Great location for exploring all attractions and absolutely loved local farmers market on Sunday. The host was very responsive and friendly. The property is stocked with good amenities for a perfect family stay. Would recommend this to any future guests!!

Heavenly time at the Heavenly Hawaiian Hideaway

We enjoyed our time at the Heavenly Hawaiian Hideaway. The cottage was a perfect fit for the two of us. It had everything we needed and it was very comfortable. It is located in a quiet area and the only "noise" we experienced was being serenaded by the frogs at night - loved it!!). The location of the cottage made it a great base. We found it easy to explore the area and experience local activities and restaurants. Would we come back? Absolutely - in a heartbeat!

First of 2 stays

I neglected to review my first stay at Heavenly Hideaway I in October of 2023. I had a lovely visit and returned in December when the house became available again. This house, the “teal house” as my granddaughter calls it, is always my first choice when visiting family on the Big Island. It is my home away from home. I feel safe and well taken care of with Stephanie right next door and always available with any question that may arise. I hope to be able to return for many visits to come. Aloha

Serene getaway with great host

We had a great time at Stephanie’s. She was easy to reach and gave some very good suggestions for restaurants and things to do. Check in was very easy and everything one could need was provided especially the kitchen was amazingly equipped. You should know that the neighbors generator runs right next door. The volcano national park is pretty close and also some awesome black sand beaches. We were looking for a serene and remote place to stay during our honeymoon and this place was exactly what we wanted. Loved the geckos that were watching us have breakfast and the birds chirping all day long. We would definitely recommend staying at Stephanie’s.

A nice place to stay

This was a lot of fun. It was clean and as pictured. It had all the needed facilities, and a person living next door to answer questions. She even came to check if we were okay, not to check up on us, just to offer help if needed. It was a little out of the way, but that was nice. The frogs and birds were the sounds in the area, which was pleasant. You will need a car to stay here, but you want a car on the Big Island anyway. The nearest town is about a mile away. It is very handy to the volcano.

Excellent home base

If you're looking for a comfy economical place to explore HI, this is it. Good bed, cute island decor with everything you need from cooler, ice blocks, spices, and most valuable, a responsive host in Stephanie. She was beyond helpful. The house is in a neighborhood so expect to hear some voices (we live in the woods of MT) and lots of frogs and birds. The first night we stumbled upon the Sunday evening drum circle in Sea Crest with its drummers, conch blowers and couples doing balancing yoga. Then found Kahena beach with its black sand (and clothing optional). Made a goal to swim there every day which we did between visiting Volcanoes NP, watching the sun set at Mauna Kea and enjoying the ranger star talk, exploring the beach road from Isaac Hale to Uncle's Awa (get a smoothie, theres also a cafe and music on Wednesdays). Malama in Pohoa is a good grocery and the truck vendor at the intersecrion of 130 and 132 had 2 and half lb chunks of tuna cauht the day b4 for $20. Overall, a very relaxing stay. Thanks, Stephanie, for taking such good care of the house and us!

Serene Garden Retreat with Unbeatable Value

We recently had the pleasure of staying at this lovely bungalow, and our experience was nothing short of excellent. The communication with the host was always prompt, ensuring we had all our queries answered in no time. Nestled in a unique residential area, the location feels like a serene garden escape, complete with a vast and well-maintained yard. The bungalow is equipped with everything you could possibly need – from household essentials to beach accessories. A noteworthy mention is the impeccable cleanliness. We found no trace of bugs, ants, or any pests – a rare and much-appreciated feat. While the nights are soundtracked by the croaking serenades of countless frogs, you can quickly get used to it. Travelers should note that this part of the island occasionally welcomes heavy yet brief rain showers. However, they leave the air fresher and make for a breath of relief. As for the neighborhood, while it's mostly tranquil, like any residential area, there might be a neighbor that isn't to one’s liking. But it was a minor issue for us, as we mainly used the bungalow as our restful retreat for sleep. The price to service ratio here is truly unbeatable, ensuring great value for every penny spent. Highly recommended! Mahalo!

Quaint little cottage

This was our first VRBO experience, and it was a great one! Stephanie was very helpful and she lives next door if you need anything, but she also stayed out of the way if you didn’t. Check in was very simple. The actual cottage was stocked with anything you could possible need (from a cooler you could use to go to the beach, all the way down to a nail clipper!). They tried to think of anything you may need and have it ready for you to borrow. Everything was really nice, and I wouldn’t hesitate to stay there again. To nitpick: The water pressure in the shower was pretty low, but that’s the island. The washer/dryer were out in the back of the house and not inside and you couldn’t just put clothes in the dryer and leave because you had to make sure it turns off. There are frogs (?) outside at night and the sounds of nature are very loud which was strange for us since we aren’t used to it. I was still unclear about if the water was really safe to drink, but there is a community well that you can use to fill up jugs that they have. We didn’t find the well, but brought the jugs to fill up elsewhere. The driveway is steep and the bottom of our car scraped the ground when pulling in or out. We solved that for the most part by everyone getting out of the car and all our luggage out and walking it down before the driver turned into the driveway. You get everything that is advertised and much more with this. Mahalo!

Great value, rural location

Overall, this rental was excellent. The house is located about 10 minutes from stores, 20 minutes from beaches and 40 minutes from Hilo. During bad traffic, those figures can double. The house is equipped with pretty much everything you could need. No complaints given the price. That said, I think they could easily get away with charging a lot more if they fixed a few small details: 1) The driveway is too steep for some drivers. It would be challenging to fix this, but worth it. 2) Instead of making a note about the dryer timer, just replace the timer. Youtube, Amazon and 20 minutes of your time will fix it. 3) Instead of making a note about the stove burner, just fix it. Youtube, Amazon, etc 4) Instead of making a note about the wall outlet, just replace it. 5) The light in the laundry/grill area appears to be burnt out. 6) There were too many instructions and notes to read upon arrival. Several pages of randomly added sticky notes after a long day of flights is tiresome. This information needs to be organized and streamlined to only the important bits. 7) The shelf above the toilet blocks the toilet seat from fully raising. For standing male toilet users, this is particularly annoying. My husband nearly jumped out of his shorts when it slammed down while using the toilet in the middle of the night. Leg risers on the shelf would fix this issue. All of this said, we loved the rental house and would stay there again even if you never fix any of these issues.
