Nice place, good location

Nice two bedroom, two bath house, walking distance to the beach in a secure development. I will stay again if I'm in the area.

March/April stay, 2023

The property is good but a bit far from the beach for us - our fault, not that of the property. Privacy was great. Kitchen adequate. Outdoor dining table was very useful. The fact that the pool was not operational was not the fault of the owner but was very disappointing t as that was one of the main draws when booking. There were a few other things in the listing that were not actually there but were not a problem.

I offered this guest a free one night stay as the pool was not operational. I did not know the pool was under maintenance. I did my best to accommodate. The guest did not turn the key in to the property guard which caused a lot of problems for cleaning and the incoming guests. I was later informed that the house was unlocked for 8 days with the key inside. Not acceptable and very irresponsible.

Location is excellent

The only reason I’m not giving this property five stars is the smaller kitchen appliances definitely need updating. There was also something of a water pressure issue which was not in anyway the host’s fault. Apparently the whole neighborhood shares the same water feed. Judith communicated beautifully and there were no substantial problems other than the water. As the title suggests, the proximity to the beach is terrific (less than a 10 minute walk) and, as another reviewer pointed out, the sunrises and sunsets are pretty amazing. Highly recommend both.

Very happy to review this guest. He was very understanding about the water problem that Costa Rica is facing these days. Good communication and left the house in good order. I would be happy to accomodate any future bookings.

Nice neighborhood, poorly equipped

I gave this rental a 3 star rating for the following reasons. * Very poorly marked and hard to find. Judith sent us a link to the location but I could never get it to work with Google Maps. A wonderful Tico helped us find the rental after searching for 30 minutes, not really knowing where to look. The sign for the complex is missing. * This rental is very poorly equipped if you like to do any cooking. No baking ware (so oven is useless). Only 1 good pot, 2 are rusty, 2 skillets, dull knives, we had to sharpen it on a stone in the back yard. Appliances consist of a fridge, stove, microwave and coffee maker. (No toaster, blender, bbq, etc.) no Teflon safe utensils or even a turning spatula. No mixing bowls, storage containers, plastic wrap, foil, zip bags…etc. * Lighting is poor/place is dark, but we made due. Only table is outside, but no light to sit under. We took a lamp from the living room to eat and play games by. * Four towels for three people for 7 days… guess this is where the washing machine comes in. 😕 * No extra beach/pool going amenities, be prepared to bring all that yourself. * Pool was warm but turning green…PASS! * No instructions on anything. This can be good or bad. No requests to do sheets or any clean up when we left. However we always leave the place as tidy as can be. * No safe PROS: * It is a gated community and we always felt safe even to walk around at night. * The beach is about a 10 minute “stroll”, closer if you walk with purpose. * Sunsets are gorgeous and worth taking in every evening if you can. * A/C works (in master bedroom only) * Beds are comfortable, hurts my hips but I can’t blame the bed on that one. * Washing machine * Clean (minus a couple cockroaches) but hey, we ARE in Costa Rica! * Bath soap, floor cleaner and laundry soap only. Bring your own shampoo, conditioner and dish soap * Guards at the gate are super friendly and helpful! * Large showers, warm water(not hot)

Generally Good Stay

Casa del Sol is located in a gated community whose entrance is, as they note, about 500m from the beach at Playa Esterillos Oeste. Overall, we had a good stay at the house - the inside was clean and ready for us to sleep in and bathe in. The outside didn't seem very ready for us - there was lots of dust on the patios and patio table/chairs. The kitchen was simply stocked - there was silverware, a couple cutting knives, cutting boards, a peeler, microwave, a coffee maker, plates, cups, bowls, kitchen towels, sponge, and dish soap, two frying pans and two little pots. Other than that, you'll want to bring everything else to cook with, including spices and oil and all that stuff. Judith was quite a nice host and came over the first day to lend us a blender and help us with the wifi. One big issue that we had was that there was no wifi, as we expected there to be from the ad. Apparently the modem had recently broken and it hadn't been fixed yet by the time we arrived. Judith tried to get us a wifi signal from her friend across the street but it wasn't strong enough to reach us inside the house, so we weren't able to get work done as planned. Judith apologized for this and offered me a bit of cash as a refund, which was nice. Overall it felt a little pricey for what the house was, but I suppose if you like the security of being inside a gated community it's nice.

The night before the booking this guest cancelled and said he had made a mistake while booking and was not able to make it. I was not expecting him and did not have a chance to clean up the patio. I arrived after he did. There was an issue with the wifi and I paid $20 to my neighbour to accomodate this guest. I was able to test the access to the wifi inside the house with no problem. I also offered an additional night stay which was declined. I refunded the guest $40 and he wanted more. I gave him everything I had in my wallet. totalling $50. He still wanted more and asked about the money paid for the house. I told him I would not receive that for 2 weeks.
