Our stay at this property was nothing short of a nightmare, and the way the owner handled the situation made everything exponentially worse. We checked in on Friday at 4 PM—six adults, each selecting a bedroom. My niece chose the lower left bunk in the bunkhouse and slept there both Friday and Saturday night. On Sunday morning, she woke up to bed bugs crawling in her bed. When we were called upstairs, we saw one so engorged with blood that when we killed it, it splattered. That is how severe this infestation was.I immediately messaged the owner on VRBO, and he called me almost right away. At his request, we sent photos—photos he immediately acknowledged showed bed bugs. My niece and another adult lifted the sheets again and found even more bed bugs. We didn’t dare check the top bunk out of fear of what else we’d find. We inspected the other beds and rooms to ensure they weren't also infested.At this point, the owner told us all six of his other properties were full. He never once offered a hotel, leaving us to choose between staying in a confirmed bed-bug–infested condo or scrambling on our own. The idea that anyone would willingly remain in an infested rental rather than move to a clean hotel is absurd.Instead of providing professional guidance or solutions, his advice—and I am not exaggerating—was that he had asked ChatGPT and it recommended washing all clothes in hot water and drying on high heat.
