Numerous maintenance issues and safety concerns
Unfortunately, this rental fell well short of expectations. We encountered an unreasonable number of maintenance, functionality, and safety issues throughout our stay.The heating system was a major problem from the beginning. A handyman initially got it working, but it stopped again. A cleaner subsequently brought over a clamp for the wiring, allowing us to turn the heat on or off but providing no temperature regulation. The house became excessively hot, and my husband ultimately had to troubleshoot the system himself to make the thermostat functional.The bathtub drain was problematic, and the shower’s hot and cold knobs rotated continuously with no clear off position. Turning the water off required finding a different “sweet spot” each time. The oven and stovetop did not work when we attempted to prepare dinner, and the garbage disposal was also inoperable.Using a hair dryer tripped a breaker, cutting power to half the house. We had to figure out ourselves that a second electrical panel was located outside in order to restore power.There were also safety concerns. The posted fire escape plan identified a bedroom door as an emergency exit, yet a bed substantially obstructed that doorway. We also noticed protruding hardware on a bunk bed, along with dirt and debris beneath furniture.The TV situation was another frustration. We had to request a remote multiple times before finally receiving one, only to discover there was no cable or streaming capability, just a DVD player and a handful of DVDs. This limitation should have been disclosed in the listing.To their credit, property management was responsive to our communications and made efforts to address some concerns. However, the sheer number of issues, many requiring repeated follow-up or our own troubleshooting, was unacceptable.We were traveling with three young children during a difficult family situation and had chosen a rental home for its comfort and convenience. Instead, we spent far too much of our stay dealing with problems that should have been identified and resolved before check-in.Basic functionality, cleanliness, and safety should be expectations, not problems left for guests to solve. We would not stay here again without substantial improvements.
