Welcome to Hunkerdown Hideaway, a private, pet-friendly country home in Salmon River, Nova Scotia. With 4 queen bedrooms and space for up to 8 guests, it is an ideal home base for families and friends exploring Clare, Yarmouth and Nova Scotia’s French Acadian Shore.

The property overlooks a peaceful meadow and is conveniently located near some of the region’s best beaches, coastal scenery, local restaurants and Acadian attractions. Mavillette Beach is only about 4 minutes away, while Cape Saint Mary Lighthouse Park and Bartletts Beach are approximately 7 minutes from the home.

The home accommodates a maximum of 8 guests. Please note that there is no additional sleeping space in the living room.

Inside the Home

Guests have access to comfortable living and dining areas, Wi-Fi, a fully equipped kitchen and an onsite washer and dryer.

The home has 1 full bathroom, so larger groups may wish to plan their morning and evening routines accordingly. Bath towels, hand towels, washcloths and bed linens are provided, with additional supplies stored near the laundry area.

Heating and Cooling

Hunkerdown Hideaway has a centralized, ducted comfort system. A propane furnace provides whole-home heating, while a MoovAir heat-pump system provides central cooling through the same ductwork.

Guests can select HEAT or COOL using the wall thermostat. The system controls the temperature throughout the entire home rather than individual rooms.

Outdoor wood fires are not permitted, and guests must not create a firepit anywhere on the property. Only the provided propane fire table may be used, subject to any provincial or local restrictions in effect during the stay.

Pet-Friendly Accommodation

Pets are welcome when included in the reservation. Please keep pets off the furniture, clean up after them and ensure they remain under control and within the property boundaries.

Ticks are common in southern Nova Scotia, particularly in tall grass and wooded areas. Tick prevention is recommended for pets, and guests should check themselves and their animals after spending time outdoors.

Guest Access

Guests have private use of the home and designated outdoor areas during their stay. Two bedrooms are on the main floor, while the other two require stair access.

The following areas are private and unavailable to guests:

Basement and mechanical area
Onsite barn
Locked closets and storage spaces

Entry is provided through a keypad. Detailed check-in instructions and the access code will be sent before arrival.

Well Water and Septic System

The home’s water comes from a private drilled well and is safe to drink. The property generally has an adequate water supply, but groundwater levels can fluctuate during the summer. Guests are asked to conserve water by keeping showers reasonable, avoiding unnecessary running water and reporting leaks promptly.

The home also uses a private septic system. Only human waste and toilet paper may be flushed. Wipes—even those labelled “flushable”—sanitary products, paper towel, diapers, cat litter and other materials must be placed in the garbage.

Exterior Security Cameras

For property safety and security, exterior cameras are located above the main entrance, monitoring the deck, and on the rear porch, monitoring the garage area. These cameras record video. There are no cameras inside the home.
