The Tuck-Away @ The Starkey House is a one bedroom bungalow extension (and the perfect place to tuck-away) with a private entrance, outdoor shower, bikes, fenced in yard with darts & hammock swing, an indoor rain shower, king memory foam mattress, sound-proofed walls, a quaint kitchenette and so much more just steps from the Kerrville River Trail, the Guadalupe River and mere blocks from our Historic Downtown filled with coffee shops, cafes, and shopping.

The Tuck-Away is the back 1/2 of a 1950’s bungalow style home which is divided into two semi-attached private spaces(The Get-Away & The Tuck-Away) in almost a condo style fashion with double walls and soundproofing insulation. Each space feels like it’s own house with totally private entrances, privacy fenced outdoor spaces, and more. No spaces are shared.

Tuck- Away rental was perfect for my husband and I. The location was great for getting around Kerrville and the surrounding area. The outdoor yard was perfect and the sweet welcome sign was a special touch. The place was clean and the pictures online were a good representation. There were two negatives but not anything related to the place itself nor anything that they could have helped. Due to flooding damage the river trails were closed which was something we were looking forward to but it didn't take away from this property. There was also more street traffic at night than I would have expected but nothing that a sound machine couldn't drown out. That being said, check in and out was easy. The living space was plenty for 2 of us. The bed was comfortable. I would be aware of a step up and over the threshold and a step up/down in living area in case your are traveling and have mobility issues. Location is walking distance to downtown, restaurants and some stores. We'd stay here again in a heartbeat.

Another great experience at the Tuck-Away. Because of our previous experience, we weren't concerned, but since we were coming to Kerrville few days after the flood, we weren't sure what to expect. Everything was ready when we arrived and we had a great stay.We come to Kerrville on a regular basis, and will probably book the Tuck-Away when it is available.

Sweet spot, prime location, great value

This wonderful cozy spot is filled with thoughtful touches and was a real joy, especially for the reasonable cost. Being right next to the river trail was even more of a perk than we realized, and we walked that trail daily. We walked to the main strip as well, visiting restaurants and shops and enjoying Kerrville more than we expected, honestly. The area has come a long way since the last time we visited, around 15 years ago. The patio area was also enjoyed daily. Our host, Keri, was responsive, helpful, and a true pleasure to work with. The only imperfection was we could hear our neighbors through the walls quite clearly; ideally the walls separating the units would be better insulated. But the stay was otherwise perfect. Thanks so much, Keri.

Comfy and clean

This was our 3rd stay here, and we always enjoy it! The bed is very comfy. The kitchenette, living area, bathroom, and outdoor area are great spaces as well. Everything is always very clean. We look forward to staying here again.

Memorial day weekend in Kerrville.

We had an amazing experience in the Tuck-Away over Memorial Day weekend. The unit was the perfect size for the two of us and our small terrier. We added our dog at the last minute and they had bowls and treats waiting for us when we arrived.The living room was very comfortable and included a smart TV where we could use our streaming accounts. Although the refrigerator was on the small side, overall the kitchen was a nice size, including a microwave and Keurig coffee maker, including a selection of HEB brand coffee. There was also an honor bar that provided popular Vodka, Gin, and Tequila brands, as well as some Texas beer and mixers.The bedroom was a very nice size with a comfortable bed and a nice armoire, including a couple of robes. The bathroom was also very nice with a large shower with a rainfall shower head.The yard was gravel, and included a picnic table and a nice seating area and a dart board. There were also three Townie bicycles for us to use. This was particularly nice since the unit was a block away from the Kerrville River Trail.Overall we were very satisfied with our stay. We are frequent travelers to Kerrville and will definitely consider this unit (or other Well-Tended Life units) in the future.

Perfect for quick road trip to Kerville

Wanted a quaint centrally located place to land with excellent reviews and this bungalow checked all the boxes. Bonus points for being so close to the River Trail which we took full advantage of. Keri was great in communicating with us. Thanks!

The Tuckaway is a Hidden Gem near the river trail

The host has created a small dog friendly, cozy getaway. We loved being able to step outside into a secluded fenced area with a doggie waste bag dispenser.The property included dog bowls and treats. We also enjoyed the memory foam mattress.

Our wonderful little hideaway!

We absolutely love Tuck-Away! It is so private, comfortable and adorable. The check in is simple and the host is extremely nice and accessible. It was our second time there and we hope to come back next October!

Wonderful Oasis in Kerrville

We were actually amazed at how well-appointed and sparkling clean this little property is. She does not miss anything - from the stocked coffee bar and honor bar, to the list of local restaurants and so much more. I was not expecting it and was pleasantly surprised. She is an amazing host! I will definitely stay there again and have already recommended it to friends! 5+ ******

Sister Get-A-Away

The facility was very nice but lacked basic needs: bottle opener, spoons, dish soap. The refrigerator froze fruits, veggies, cheese, and wine. I was expecting an email or text on how to access the unit, before or on the day of arriving. Called and emailed twice. Check-in time was 4pm, but, did not get a text on how to access the unit until 5pm.

Comfy and clean

What a perfect place to spend the night before camp drop off. This was our second stay here, and we look forward to coming again. The bed and linens are very comfortable. The indoor and outdoor spaces are well designed. The property is very clean. The owner was very helpful answering questions about area restaurants prior to our trip.

Locals refer to GJ as Kerrville’s Living Room because of the warmth and hospitality found inside, but we simply strive to be what we call “5-star in Flip Flops”. So come as you are, dress up or dress down, get outside your box to sip something new, and make sure to order the brussel sprouts. Reservations Are Strongly Encouraged.

NEED HELP? Being foodies and travel junkies ourselves...we know all of the great spots to eat, drink, and experience our corner of the Hill Country to it’s fullest, so feel free to reach out for suggestions!
