Discover your mountain log cabin getaway with room for everyone! This home is spread out over 3 floors with 5 bedrooms sleeping a total of 14. It is located on a private cul-de-sac in a gated community situated on the New River. Enjoy your own private pond with dock and gazebo, porches on 2 levels overlooking the water. Inside enjoy an open floor plan with a 2 story family room, open concept dining/kitchen with seating for 16. Wrap around porches provide a relaxing atmosphere to rest and recharge. The lower level provides a bunk room, second bedroom with King bed, bathroom and large family/game room with bunkbeds that opens onto lower level porches overlooking the pond. Master is on the main level with new mountain log King bed, private bath and covered porch access overlooking the pond. Upstairs discover 2 oversized King bedrooms with a twin bed and bathroom. Bring your fishing pole to fish in the pond, neighborhood hiking trails, 5 minutes from tube/kayak rentals. Easy driving distance to West Jefferson, Mt. Jefferson, New River state park, Grayson Highlands, and the Creeper trail. Welcome to Running Doe Lodge where you can experience: rest and relaxation, hiking, biking, tubing, kayaking, pond fishing, fly fishing, small town charm, shopping, wineries/breweries, and a great place to make memories.

The entire family had a wonderful time at this beautiful place. The pictures do not do it justice. This was my first time using vrbo and this experience certainly sets the bar extremely high. We appreciate the hosts sharing this amazing home with others.

Check in was easy, because of the keyless entry and communication from our host providing all the information we needed. We loved the wraparound porch with ample deck furniture and outdoor grill. We also enjoyed the fire pit. So nice for sitting around and sharing stories and memories. The kitchen was large and very well stocked. The views were lovely, and we appreciated being in quiet and peaceful surroundings. Great spot, great hosts, plenty of parking too

Home is beautifully decorated and stocked with all items needed. Beds slept very well.Location perfect. As a law enforcement family we have few times where all can come together and unplug as a family. This home exceeded our expectation and we all had a relaxing time.

Firstly, the Owners were very responsive which was fantastic! Communication was spot on before and during our family stay. We let them know right away things that we found broken and they offered solutions. The house is beautiful and it was pretty clean. The kitchen was spacious and it was plenty room for our group of 9. The wrap around porch was lovely with an amazing amount of seating. We only saw 2 deer while there and no other wildlife. The game room downstairs was a bit of a letdown. All the pool sticks were unusable and most were broken, which led to some unhappy kids since that was a selling point for their entertainment. There was also only one video game of PacMan. We spent a lot of time playing Guess Who since the other games were a lot of puzzles. Not really kid friendly.The pond out back was pretty to look at. I had let the owner know beforehand that I had older people in my property and the pictures made it look like the pond was easily accessible. It wasn’t. No steps or walkway down, just a step incline that was not in any way accessible for my older parents. We had to end up loading the car and driving around to the other side, parking on the grass and still having to help them walk down to it. The ponds gazebo was a lot older and the little fishing dock was shaky and my dad was worried about it potentially breaking. That whole area could use an upgrade. The pictures were a bit deceiving there.Beautiful, but wouldn’t stay again.

This could not have been more perfect for our family getaway. The gated wrap-around porch was great for our little ones to run. Our grandson caught a huge fish in the pond. All the sitting areas inside and out let us enjoy being together, while offering quiet spaces as needed. We’ll be back!

Rest for all

This home had room for our children and grandchildren. The wraparound porch was amazing, the views were stunning, the July air was cool and refreshing. The house was immaculate when we arrived and had everything we needed, even a high chair! There was plenty of adventure nearby, but we mostly enjoyed being together in this home.

Magical holiday weekend. Beautiful and comfortable home decorated for Christmas. Lovely walking trail, deer, gorgeous views. Short trip to West Jefferson which was like a Hallmark movie. Easy check in. Home is as described, everone said their beds were comfy.

Enjoyed by all! We left a hatchet down by the fire pit. Did you find it and could I pay to have you ship it to me? It has some sentimental value to the owner, otherwise I would not ask.

An Outstanding Place!

We where here for 3 days with extended family to attend a wedding locally. Our host was prompt in responding to all of our questions and inquiries before arrival. Our party consisted of 6 adults and 4 children. With children ranging in age from 3 to 16, there was plenty to keep their attention, from the game room to toys, puzzles, and fishing in the picturesque pond with fountain behind the house. The kitchen was well equipped for the large meals we prepared, and there was ample seating for additional guests we had over during our stay. All of the bedrooms were large and comfortable. The outdoors around the property was lovely for strolling or going on an extended hike along the horse trail and stream that extends far behind the property. House is in a gated community about 25-30 minutes from Sparta. Recommend doing grocery shopping before arrival. We rate our experience here as exceptional, and would not hesitate to recommend!

Group getaway

This is a perfect property for a large group. There are lots of beds and the kitchen has an amazing quantity of dishes and flatwear as well as pots and pans, the house is beautiful with lovely views. The owner is very responsive. There are lots of places to go nearby.

Beautiful home, beautiful location, beautiful memories!

What an amazing vacation for our family! We enjoyed this beautiful home & property so much & can't recommend it enough. It was so spacious, yet so cozy. The home was super clean & just had so many unique touches. Lots of seating in the kitchen & family room. Large bedrooms & bathrooms. Large, well-equipped kitchen (& a grill on the deck!). We enjoyed fishing in the pond, walking the trails, smores at the fire pit, fun competition in the game room, & just hanging out on the porch. Our family enjoyed this home more than any we have ever stayed in & we made so many wonderful memories. Tana was a wonderful host and was so responsive to our questions. Running Doe Lodge will likely be an annual tradition now for our family.

Perfect week away from stress of life

We've stayed at this property 5 times now. First 4 times with previous owner and once with new owners. We love being away from normal life stress. This place is extremely remote and in beautiful area. Very happy with the little updates and changes. Hope to visit again. Wish bob (Giant catfish) was still in pond. This is first time we havent seem him. Plenty of fish and turtles in the pond. We spent most of the week relaxing fishing the pond with a competition on who would catch the most.
