Hale Mano (The House of Sharks) is a 3-bedroom, 2-bath home built in 1963 from solid California redwood. Located on a cute residential street, it's the perfect getaway from the typical resorts. You will love this well curated, retro, beach house that's just a 6 minute walk to Poipu Beach, Brennecke's and more.

Updated vacation homes are hard to come by, and usually hard to get into, because they're so popular! Hale Mano (formerly Hale Poipu O'lina) is under new ownership and has been thoughtfully upgraded throughout. The large, shaded lanai is an extension of the living space and will be your favorite spot to hang out, post beach, and enjoy the trade winds. Cool house, close to beach, breezy lanai, cozy beds, what more could you ask for? Hmm.. an icy Mai-Tai, perhaps?

House is as described in photos & super cute. Extremely clean. We loved the outdoor living space and spent most of our time while at the house there. The neighborhood felt safe. I had read other reviews mentioning the noise and thought they were just being picky but this is indeed a VERY NOISY neighborhood. Between the traffic at 5am, the roosters crowing starting at 1am every day, and you can hear every neighbor because everyone keep their windows open. The house itself was great, just make sure to bring earplugs if you have a hard time sleeping through neighborhood noises. I never could get the property manager's app to work (and I'm pretty savvy) but she was very responsive when I called with a question!

Comfortable and charming

We loved this house! It was comfortable, clean, and organized, and the modern beachy decor was perfect. We loved having dinner on the lanai and hanging out there in the morning as well. I would love to stay there again the next time we’re on Kauai!

Paradise family trip

We loved staying in this home! Super clean, convenient, and had the perfect layout for our family of five. Definitely had that island feel, and the outdoor spaces were great to have. We look forward to our future stay here!

Great spot!

We really enjoyed our stay at this house! It looked exactly as pictured and had some fun authentic touches. Great location, short walk or 2 min drive from the beach and close to some great restaurants. Came equipped with beach equipment- chairs, towels, umbrellas and coolers. Highly recommend and would definitely stay again.

Fun Beach House in Poipu!

I recently stayed at this fantastic rental property near Poipu Beach, and it was an experience to remember! The atmosphere was incredibly fun and vibrant, making it the perfect spot for a relaxing getaway. From the moment I arrived, I could feel the lively energy that made the stay so enjoyable.The cleanliness of the rental was top-notch. Every room was spotless, and it was clear that the property was well-maintained. Excellent Kauai rental

We love, love, loved staying here! It’s a beautiful home, very clean and private, and perfectly sized for our family of 5. Just a short walk to the beach through a quiet neighborhood, or a short drive into town for coffee or groceries or for a meal. We could not have asked for a better place to stay for our first visit to Kauai!

Perfect house on the dry side of the island.

My family and I really enjoyed this house. It came with everything we needed and our 2 yr old enjoyed chasing chickens in the front yard. Very family friendly And a totally different experience from a condo or hotel in the best possible way.

Incredible!

One of the most thoughtfully stocked and clean properties I’ve ever stayed in. We had an amazing time, in large part due to the beautiful home and location. Neighbors were very friendly and welcoming as well. 10/10 would book again!

Family-friendly stay on south shore

This rental was perfect for our family, including our toddler and infant. We loved the patio and bunk rooms, and the bathrooms are nicer than the listing pics suggest! Walkable to Poipu Beach Park, which is beautiful and great for little ones. We also rented a golf cart from Kauai Carts, which was fun and recommended for tooling around.

Best VRBO ever

This was by far the best VRBO I have ever stayed in. Everything was perfect and impeccable. All of the details were appreciated from the glassware and plates to the decor and beach gear. The Hale Mano is an amazing experience and we can’t wait to return.

Perfect get away

We stayed at this lovely home for 5 days. If was my husband and I and our adult son and his wife and our 2 year old granddaughter. We loved this location, it was central to everything. It was cute, well decorated, and with a great kitchen to cook. We loved the outside patio area. Thank you for letting us stay at your home!

Absolutely Perfect!

We had a fabulous stay at this cottage! It had everything we needed, very comfortable beds, and the renovations were very modern and adorable (I want whoever renovated this to come do my house in Boston next!). We really appreciated the quiet, digital ceiling fans, the lovely lanai, and all the beach supplies provided. Our family of five really didn't need anything else. Very convenient location in Koloa, and a 3-minute drive to Poipu Beach, which has something for everyone and ended up being our favorite beach of the trip. Highly recommend this rental

Such a great experience

We spent a wonderful four weeks here over October, and can’t say enough good things about the property. It’s beautifully designed, light and airy and very thoughtfully decorated. We had two babies with us, and had to do some light childproofing, but was perfect with little ones. We walked to the beach a few times most days. The sunset over Poipu beach is unbeatable. Highly recommend this spot!!

Perfectly close to poipu

The house was absolutely perfect for our needs. The place was super clean and well stocked all around. The toiletries were nice and smell great! Good kitchen and the patio was amazing for breakfast or a mid day nap. There is a good selection of beach gear in the outdoor closet including a small drink cooler we used every day. Communication with the host was easy and they were very responsive for the few questions we had while there. Would highly recommend this place if it fits your space needs!!

Wonderful time in super equipped home

Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was spotless. I was very happy with the location. I was very satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We were three couples in the home and had a lovely time. We were able to cook meals, hang out and plan our days without stepping on each other. And the home is truly eight minutes walk from Poipu Beach. The outside furniture is very inviting, increasing the lounging space. The bathrooms are very updated and modern with all amenities. The only negative is the middle room is a pass through room on the way to the bathroom, decreasing those guests privacy a bit. Overall, a wonderful vacation home and the hosts are super communicative and friendly.

Great Vibe and Location

Hale Mano was a perfect place for three girlfriends to reconnect. We came from Colorado, Texas and Japan to celebrate 50+ years of friendship and our 60th birthdays. We enjoyed a short walk to Poipu Beach where we watched the resting turtles (honu) and monk seal, short drive to Pickleball courts, Lawai beach to watch the sunset and shopping. The house was clean and well furnished with everything we could possibly need. And of course the mod vibe matched the theme for our get together. We are looking forward to our return!

The house was in a regular neighborhood. This meant people leaving for work Early in the mornings. Cars on the side drive and street were quite loud. The unit was nice and convenient to the beach. The only two real issues were lots of ants in the kitchen no matter how clean you kept it and a shortage of hot water for showers.

Beautiful fun island home close to the best South Shore sites!

Hale Mano was the perfect house for our family of six. Very clean, comfortable beds, great areas for relaxation. Kitchen is well accommodated for meal prep! Beach supplies were much appreciated as were the clean and functional washer/dryer when needed. I never felt like anything was missing or lacking. The location, while not beachfront, was super close to Poipu and Brenneke beaches..easily walkable but a 2 min drive if we had too much stuff to carry. Quick note; don't let the previous note about ants deter you. Yes, there were a few ants in the kitchen but those virtually disappeared as we only stored food in the pantry and fridge as recommended (and there were a few ant traps in place as well).

This is the place if you can't stand the mega Hotels

Nice location. Easy to get to, and away from. Close to the beach with plenty to do near by. The renovation done on the property really turned it into a beautiful little surf shack and we didn't have any issues with the property aside from the kitchen ants getting into the pizza we left out (very normal on Kauai). Plenty of gear for the gearless. This is a local residential area, so treat it as such. Don't be a nuisance. Recycling has to be taken down to Poipu Beach recycle center FYI. Not far, easy to do. All in all, it was worth the price paid and we enjoyed our time 👌.

Wanted to love it, but...

Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was very clean. I was very happy with the location. I was satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: The house was exactly as pictured in the listing. Very cute and very well equipped for relaxing meals on the lanai. Appliances worked well. Super well located near the beach and all things South Island. Unfortunately there were some problems that seriously impeded our ability to fully enjoy our experience in this home. In spite of open windows and fans, the center room (with the bunk beds) was very hot all night. In all the bedrooms, ceiling fans and open windows were helpful. What wasn’t great were the roosters crowing starting at about 4:30am until mid morning and the automatic sprinklers that went off around 6:00am. These were not distant sounds but rather they felt like they were inside the home - especially in the front main bedroom. We’ve travelled abroad a lot and experienced lots of animal sounds including braying donkeys, crickets, etc...but this was pretty extreme. There was also quite a bit of early morning car/truck noise from the neighborhood (understandable as people were going to work). Please consider informing guests so they know what they are getting into. Also, please take a look at the pillow situation on the beds (not super comfortable), and the insect situation. Kauai is a tropical island and few ants and flying insects were no problem but other critters - cockroaches - were making your place their home. Yes, We had a great time in Kauai and during our stay in other homes on the island, we were very satisfied. We are not “resort” lovers and prefer to stay in local communities. We liked much about your house but came home needing some quiet sleep!
