This renovated antique 1835 ship builder's home is an icon of Blue Hill. It is surrounded by water, with Conary Cove opening to Blue Hill Bay fronting the house, and the calm Mill Pond portion of the large Salt Pond, which extends towards South Blue Hill for a couple of miles. The reversing falls into the salt pond make it one of the birding hotspots in this region. With small craft available at the house, it is easy to engage with the water and discover why Downeast Maine is so iconic.
Over the course of 4 years, we transformed this historic home built by John Cheever by featuring unique characteristics of the era and updating it for today's style of living. Focusing on creating space to facilitate gatherings of family and friends, we love sharing it with those who wish to gather with their loved ones in a spectacular location on the iconic coast of Maine. We opened up the walls to connect to the outdoors through adding multiple sets of French doors and picture windows in the gourmet kitchen & barn. Furnished with elegant antique appointments, the 6 bedrooms, 4 renovated baths, library, den and formal dining room now feature exposed beams and built in bookshelves loaded with stories and games to find rest and connection in the downtime between explorations of the area.
There is a double bedroom on the first floor, 4 bedrooms on the 2nd floor & a single bedroom on the third. The barn is an independent unit with a full kitchen & laundry. The double bedroom is located in the loft with a proper stair to access & there is a double pullout in the main barn space as well. Off the barn is a greenhouse full of fresh lettuce & herbs. The kitchen is bookended by a large screened in porch & a deck with a grill overlooking the firepit in the garden & the salt pond beyond.
Both Camden and Acadia National Park are easy day trips, But Blue Hill is a gem as it sits away from tourist crowds in the region, yet offers all the best components of the coast; with several environmental organizations actively engaging field trips & outdoor access. Across Eggemoggin reach sits Deer Isle, with the storied Haystack School of Craft & active lobstering community of Stonington, where you find lobster rolls consistently awarded best of Maine.
