The Kraken House

The Kraken House is the perfect Bayside Sea Shanty. This private home is fully stocked. The home is located on the shortest beach block and Lower Township New Jersey. The public bay entrance is approximately 100 yards or 11 houses from our front door. Our front porch offers spectacular views of the sunset. Beach tags for Cape May beach, bikes, fishing poles, and a barbecue grill are included. There’s a washer and dryer in the home along with most kitchen appliances. The house is fully stocked with bottled water breakfast items coffee tea’s and spices.

I selfishly didn't want to write this review ... The Kraken House is great! If I oversell it we might have to book elsewhere on our next Villas visit, but that's not fair. The Kraken House house is a superior VBRO stay because 1) it's well appointed with what you'd want for your stay - plenty of dishes, glasses, cooking things2) beds are very comfortable3) very convenient to have towels and linens provided4) should go without saying that it is clean and in good repair, but that's not always the case5) sooo close to beach and cool to get the kayaks & paddleboards in good weather6) THE DECOR is wild and has to be a curated collection7) The hosts were responsive and helpful all along the way.Our extended family each rented Villas places to gather for theThanksgiving holiday so we go to compare places. Kraken was the best one and we held our dinner there. Honestly looking forward to another stay, and it will feel like a holiday at a cool, excentric relative's beach lair.

We have a fantastic stay at the Kraken House. My boys enjoyed the decor and the amenities were great! Close to many things we like to do but in a peaceful neighborhood. Short walk to the bay to watch the beautiful sunsets! We would definitely consider booking again!

The cutest little place

We absolutely loved our stay. The house was decorated so well and it really added to the charm. Location was great too! Loved that it is close enough to all the main attractions of Cape May and Wildwood, but also off the beaten path. Enjoyed being able to walk a very short distance to the Bay beach. The owners were very responsive and had great suggestions of things to do and places to eat. We will definitely Stay here again if and when we come back to Cape May.

We had a great stay at this very unique and fun house. The Kraken is not lacking for a fun vibe and overall great place for our family. The house was clean, hosts were super easy to talk to and quick to respond, the house was well stocked with essential items, and I’m sure if there was something you needed Karen would be more than willing to make it happen. The bikes were perfect for riding around the neighborhood and I wish we could have taken advantage of the fireplace and outdoor space, but we were too busy.

We laughed until we cried

This was such a fun house! My teen/pre-teen giggled so much about the house decor. Short walk to the beach, short walk to food and small grocery store, central to all the things you need. Host really has thought through how to provide a welcoming environment. We would definitely go back!

Our Stay

Overall the house was as advertised. Everything was acceptable with the house. Our only complaint is the area was not what we expected. However, that is 100% on us not the host. Both of the hosts were very nice and accommodating. The house is perfect for younger kids.

Extended weekend

Nicely decorated house (especially for children) in a nice neighborhood. Even though it’s not IN Cape May, it’s close enough and there’s restaurants and things to do very nearby. And it’s quieter. Walk to the beach for the beautiful sunsets. Owners are very nice, informative, and available if needed.

I have been traveling to Cape May with my family for many years, throughout my own childhood and now with our young daughter. We saw the Kraken house and fell for the charm and unique features. Karen was very helpful as we prepared for our trip. She even offered some advice on new experiences that we had never seen. Check in was easy and it was nice to have access to all of the provided amenities. We were able to cook breakfast most mornings and had access to games which kept us all occupied in the evening, after the baby went to bed. In the busyness of the summer season, we did find some cleaning that was overlooked, under the beds, couches, and cushions, but the kitchen and bathrooms were clean and that was most important to us. We had some fun memories at this house and are thankful for the stay.

Really cool themed house

This house is like walking onto the stage of the movie “Jaws”. The minute we walk in you see a huge picture of a scene from Jaws.. then as you look around the room you see mermaids and nautical accessories. The master bedroom has a treasure chest with a skeleton and beads overflowing it with gold coins on the floor. The bunk room and kids bedrooms look like you are living in a boat. This place needs to be seen to be appreciated! Mere words cannot fully express its unusual theme.

Great Bayside home

Karen was very helpful with tons of information prior to our stay and great when I had questions while there. The home is cozy, with interesting decor. The theme is very much throughout the home. The back yard is not fenced in and on the corner of a main road. Great location, the bay has an entrance at the end of the block. Beautiful sunset views. Kitchen is well equipped with utensils, cookwear, plates, glasses and bowls. Overall every member of our party had a great time. Thank you =)

they thought of everything!

The Kraken House was fabulous! Karen was really communicative and made sure to leave us lots of treats. Fully stocked fridge for breakfast and even some delicious spiked seltzer in a gift basket for us! Comfortable and quirky, we had a great Cape May weekend.

Summer Getaway

The property was well cared for and creatively decorated. The host responded promptly to any questions we asked. It was centrally located to both the primary cape may boardwalk area and the wildwood boardwalk area. The host went out of her way to make the stay easy and special by providing breakfast items and a nice welcome basket. Thanks for a great stay!

Everything you need for a relaxing and fun family getaway!

Our family of 5 had the most comfortable stay at The Kraken House! The hospitality is endless, from the welcome basket (which included wine!), to the fridge stocked with breakfast items, to all the beach gear you could need! Our kids loved the game system, we grilled some burgers, and played a great round of Cape May-opoly! This home is truly one of a kind and has everything you need. There’s a diner super close that you could walk to and it’s just a quick drive to the Cape May beaches. Karen and Jesse were great hosts! We can’t wait to return!

Perfect spot, well appointed beach house - above & beyond

The Kraken House sits in a residential neighborhood, a short block walk to the Bay Beach, which was perfect for morning strolls and evening sunsets. My kiddo got to see the sun drop into the ocean for the first time. That's one of many great moments to remember from this trip. Karen goes above and beyond for her guests - this was truly the best appointed rental I've ever stayed in. Fun decor, ample entertainment (a fun collection of vinyl for GenX nostalgia!), quality linens and pillows, beach toys and towels, generous amount of food in the fridge, and everything we could need in the kitchen. We had a great stay. Thank you, Karen!
