A tranquil ocean retreat steps from the water's edge

On the Cove is a spacious three-room apartment is located directly on Lanes Cove in Lanesville (Gloucester) with spectacular ocean views from every room and is literally steps to the water’s edge. It has a private entrance, full kitchen, living room, bedroom with queen bed, off-street parking, private patio with custom granite fire pit and yard.

On the Cove (our house and apartment) was used as a movie set in 2017. You can search for "Katie Fforde: Herzenssache" to find the movie trailer online (it is in German). The property was used extensively, as well as surrounding landmarks such as the Fish Shack and along the rocky coast. Also, you can find our webcam by searching "On the Cove" to check out what's going on and the current weather. Also, the property was part of the 2018 Gloucester Garden Tour.

When you stay, you will enjoy the intimacy of the cove as well as the views of Crane Beach and Plum Island across Ipswich Bay. This area is famous for phenomenal sunsets (National Geographic has called it one of the ten best in the world). Lanes Cove is a favorite spot for artists and kayakers alike.

Lanesville is one of the quaint villages encircling Cape Ann and is conveniently located about 10 minutes from either downtown Gloucester or Rockport. You can swim in the cove or take a short walk to Plum Cove beach. Halibut Point State Park and Dogtown Common are only a mile away. Lanesville was the home of many famous authors, painters and sculptors including Virginia Lee Burton, Walker Hancock, Leon Kroll and Paul Manship. It is also the home of the Manship Artist Residency and Studio--a 15 acre estate with two quarries.

Gloucester itself is only an hour by train or car from Boston and is one of New England's best-kept summer vacation secrets. From earliest settlers in 1623 to today's Hollywood film-makers, the beauty of Cape Ann has drawn people from around the world. Made famous in the movie "The Perfect Storm" and now "Wicked Tuna", Gloucester has a rich maritime history and is the oldest working seaport and active artist colony in the United States. Gloucester's historic fishing port, Rockport's famous art galleries, the unique antique shops of Essex, the New England charm of Manchester-by-the-Sea, and the history and museums of nearby Salem make Cape Ann a truly unique vacation destination.

Wir hatten eine schöne Zeit, das Haus liegt super ruhig mit Blick auf den kleinen Hafen und ist ideal zum Starten auf tolle Touren.Das Haus ist gut eingerichtet und gemütlich.Nur das Inserat ist etwas irreführend, es wird beschrieben, dass es zwei Schlafzimmer gibt, was nicht stmmt. Es gibt ein seperates Schlafzimmer mit einen Queen-Size-Bett und im Wohn-Essbereich kann man das Sofa zu einem, leider sehr unbequemen Bett umbauen. Wenn man das gedanklich anders plant, ist es etwas unglücklich.

This was the perfect place to stay if you’re visiting Salem. It’s close enough to drive or take the train to Salem but far enough away for a nice relaxing retreat. Views an amazing. I spoke to the owners (who live upstairs), they are very nice and were truly interested if we needed anything and we were enjoying our stay. Highly recommend you try this property, you won’t be disappointed.

A little slice of heaven

This property was perfect for a getaway. Super cozy and centrally located you could walk for coffee, lunch or even to a terrific beach. The view from the property is stunning and a terrific spot to watch the sunset. We were thrilled to be able to spend time at this little slice of heaven on the cove. Marissa the host was super responsive and welcoming. Would love to come back again!

Lovely Stay at On The Cove!

On the Cove was a great jumping off point for our last minute New England trip. The host was very responsive and check in was simple/easy. We enjoyed a beautiful sunset from the backyard our first evening and the relaxing sound of the waves throughout our stay. There was a small market and cafe steps away from the property, and we enjoyed visiting the towns of Rockport and Gloucester. Would love to say here again!

Quiet With Great View

Secluded spot on the local’s cove. Enjoyed spectacular sunsets. Steps and path to the property probably not ideal access for anyone with mobility issues.

Another wonderful stay!

The only bad part is leaving! My husband and I have been visiting this little gem off and off for the last 9 years and absolutely love it! We use it for a balance of relaxation (which you absolutely will get in Lanes Cove) and also as a home base for exploring the surrounding areas. Marissa is a wonderful host and is always so prompt in answering questions! We've never had anything but a wonderful stay! The apartment is cozy, yet bright and airy, which we love. We look forward to when we can visit again!

The Beauty of the Sea and of People

On the Cove is spectacularly situated and wonderfully managed. The rooms are large and airy, a view of gardens or the cove from every window. Everything indoors is comfortable, everything you need in reach. I loved the voices of children and fishermen. I loved it all.

All that and more!

First off, if I could give more stars to Marissa (the host) I would - I don't think 5 minutes went by after I'd send a message (both before and during the stay) and I'd have a response back. Not just yes/no/OK kind of messages, but warm and thorough replies that made it clear she wanted us to have a good stay and to be sure we didn't have any lingering questions. For the apartment - spotless, well stocked, thoughtful touches (welcoming goodies), and covered all the bases. Heating is radiant from the floors and really works well, as does the hot water and water pressure. The backyard literally is the ocean and the views from each window are not "peeks", it's front and center full on cove and ocean. Easily walkable to local coffee store and small liquor/grocery store. 10 - 15 minute drive to either downtown Rockport or downtown Gloucester. reviewers said is true! If you've spent time in Rockport (as I have for many years), you'll be surprised at the quiet. No cars/no motorcycles/no groups of tourists at every corner, just peaceful views and for those that you pass on the street when walking, a smile and hello! One other word about the host. It's easy to run a great place when all goes well. It's when things go wrong that the good rise to excellent. There were some minor things that came up. Within minutes all was taken care of and again with the sincere effort that showed care and concern for our comfort. A++!

Quiet retreat

The apartment was exactly as described. Well appointed. Good communication with owner when necessary. Lovely views. Ability to control the heat much appreciated. A great spot to spend the Christmas holiday.

Adorable place on the cove

We rented this place to be close to Salem in October but not too close. It was perfect. Half hour drive. Close to train station if you want to use public transport. We had our days filled with activities so really only slept here. Wish we would have had time to enjoy the cove. Gorgeous views. Place was clean and spacious. Bed comfortable. Shower pressure awesome. Everything in kitchen needed if you wanted to cook there. Would def stay again!!

Quiet, beautiful spot

Lovely little place in Gloucester. Clean, quiet, and a great view of the water. Private and quiet despite being adjoined to larger house property. Great amenities, cable, washer dryer, Wi-Fi, parking…thanks for the cozy stay!

Fall weekend

Adorable, well equipped and comfortable! Very clean!!! The ambience of this place was so relaxing and a wonderful place to come “home” to after a busy day of sightseeing. We had a few hiccups during our weekend (nothing to do with this VRBO) but Marissa was such a gracious host! She made us feel like we had a friend in the neighborhood! Would definitely stay here again!

Great getaway

Property delivered as promised. The apartment had lots of space with a full kitchen and dining area with plenty of room to spread out in the living room. Heated floors were nice on the feet and maintained the temps in cool autumn evenings. Nice views from every window of the water and harbor. Great place for some peace and quiet. Communication was straightforward and prompt.

A lovely space with a fantastic view & wonderful sunsets. Nicely decorated with beautiful colors throughout, well thought out - with just enough of everything, including space - & with a full kitchen & w/d. Walkable to a beach and local amenities. I look forward to staying there again!

Beautiful spot for kayaking & supping!

We loved staying at this spacious and comfortable apartment with gorgeous views of Lane’s Cove and easy access to the water! We got out on the water every day with our kayaks and SUP boards; and also enjoyed a whale watch and delicious dining options in downtown Gloucester. Marissa was easy to contact and very responsive. The apartment had everything we needed (including shampoo and soap even though the listing stated otherwise). The comfy bed has an extra topper on it, so if folks need firmer (like I do) it comes off easily. Lane’s Cove can have a reputation for being loud, but we found it very quiet, friendly and peaceful. ‘Missing the view already. We will be back!
