Oceanfront in Hilo Hale Kai Suites Heritage Room - Queen Bed, Private Bath

Hale Kai Hawaii Suites offers four oceanfront rooms (booked individually) and a spectacular, panoramic view of the blue Pacific Ocean and Hilo Bay. We overlook the popular Honolii surfing beach in a peaceful location just 2 miles north of historic Hilo Town. Revel in the best views in Hilo while at our pool and oceanfront lanai!

The Heritage Room offers a queen bed, private bathroom with shower, WiFi, SMART TV, small fridge/freezer, microwave, coffee maker, hot water pot, toaster, dishes and utensils, ceiling and portable fans, no air conditioning, and sliding door to lanai. Continental breakfast items are stocked daily and we invite all guests to swim in the pool or lounge on the oceanfront lanai.

A few NOTES: One parking spot is provided per room in this quiet residential neighborhood. All Guest Rooms are facing the ocean on the lower level of the property and there are over 30 steps down (pictured) to traverse to the rooms. Guests are responsible for carrying their luggage to their rooms. Bookings limited to 2 guests per room (including children). Quiet hours are 9pm to 8am for the comfort of all of our guests, Mahalo!

While at Hale Kai (House on the Ocean) Hawaii, enjoy watching surfers, dolphins, and seasonal humpback whales during their annual migration to the Hawaiian Islands from the north Pacific. Great location for surfers as there is a view of the break. Reaching the break requires a car, though it's close enough to see waves and those riding them. The room was clean. Breakfast was yummy and shifted to meet dietary issues. Place is close to town for shopping and restaurants. We'll be back. This room is the smallest and we'll likely choose bigger for next time.

Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Small room & lanai. Right on the ocean, great views. Parking tight & difficult. Many steps up & down. No AC. The screen door was rusted shut, forced it open about 15 inches. No one on sight to manage, only cleanup crew. Very little privacy. Made the best of it, wouldn’t go back.

My husband and I spent 2 nights in early March in this lovely room which was part of a large home overlooking the ocean. We were pleasantly surprised with fresh breakfast items for every morning and watched whales spouting from our terrace. Amazing.

I loved the location and the view from our room. Whale watching was my favorite part of the stay. The room was not bad. There were not enough towels for 2 people. The hair conditioner was plugged up. They did bring a bring a bottle of condtioner. What I didnt like was the bent sliding door that wouldnt close or lock. Lots of ants got into out pizza on the inside table. The internet would not work and was very bad most of our stay. On the upside we were compted one night.. The pool was cleaned the day we were leaving. Parking was difficult on the hill for an SUV. The really good for handicapped person on oxygen or wherlchair due to the steps to get to the room. They do mention steps on the advertisement. The management company did try very hard to fix the issues we had. Even with all the problems I would stay at this location again.

The location is easy to get to by car, the view from the back lanai was lovely, and the management company made it easy for us to check-in/out. You are paying for the ocean view! No AC!

Positives- Beautiful location and ocean view. Well kept property! Clean! Mini fridge in room was stocked daily with muffins, fruit, eggs and yogurt. Coffee supplied in room was very good. Negatives- I’m sure I overlooked the fact that this place did not have AC, so my fault…but wow was it brutal! We slept with door open and fan.. top sheet, the sound of wind woke us up all night every night. Pillows were really flat and bed extremely soft. My husband is basically a professional driver, and he was surprised how difficult the parking was. 1 spot at a very tight angel that you have to do a 3 point turn to get in and out of on a very steep incline. I never reached out to property manager as we were on the go everyday! But met upon arrival room attendant and she was very friendly! We wouldn’t stay here again only due to no AC.

Refreshing Oceanside getaway!

Excellent and we would definitely return. Our room looked out at the ocean which was wonderful! Very clean and helpful staff. The breakfast provided to your room was a nice touch! Mahalo! See you on a future trip!

Perfect for couples. Ocean front unit. Beautiful way to see the amazing Hilo sunrise. They provided fresh fruit, coffee, muffins and snack bar. My husband and I enjoyed our visit to Hilo. Very safe neighborhood. We got dinner to go and had our dinner in our oceanfront unit.

Lovely Small Hilo Room

Nice location with beautiful view, clean small room and bath, tricky on a hill parking, nice shower, breakfast was good, could be warm with no air conditioning, no cross ventilation.

Loved the views and very flowerful setting, very quiet. Minor suggestion re provided breakfast: fruit and special lactose-free milk was great but a little surprised that there was no bread for toast (though there was a toaster) or a bagel or English Muffin or something.

Parking was challenging. It’s at an odd angle and I’m fairly certain a large SUV wouldn’t fit. The on island representative was awful. We weren’t able to get the hot tub started and she was of no help. She never even replied!

Great quiet place. Waking up and having fresh fruit and coffee on the lanai was incredible. Parking was a little tricky as the lot is incredibly small but we figured it out after a day or two.

Reviewer Comments: Clean and simple, this seaside b and b is in a quiet neighborhood, patios face the sunset, gardens and rooms are well maintained and the other guests were considerate and quiet. We were too busy enjoying waterfalls and hikes and botanical gardens to spend time by the lovely pool but enjoyed watching the surfers at the local beach next door from our patio. Fresh fruit and eggs for breakfast were a lovely touch.

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: The property and house were beautiful, pretty well maintained and easy to find. The location was great, near Hilo but not downtown, and with easy access to explore the north shore of the island. Great whale watching in the morning during season, right from the lanai. Heritage Room was clean, new and had all the amenities we needed (basic kitchen items for breakfast, fridge, beach towels). The breakfast set up worked nicely, with having all items available ahead of time in our room, and we could set out whatever needed a refill for the next day. Customer service through booking and on island was very courteous and helpful. Our only disappointment was that the hot tub was out of service and the pool looked like it needed some cleaning. As this was a main reason we chose this location, the managers were kind enough to offer us a bit of a discount on our booking.
