Oceanfront in Hilo Hale Kai Suites- Pele Suite - King Bed, Living Room, Bath

Hale Kai Hawaii Suites offers four oceanfront rooms (booked individually) and a spectacular, panoramic view of the blue Pacific Ocean and Hilo Bay. We overlook the popular Honolii surfing beach in a peaceful location just 2 miles north of historic Hilo Town. Revel in the best views in Hilo while at our pool and oceanfront lanai!

The Pele Suite offers a garden view bedroom with California king bed and separate ocean view sitting room with a Hawaiian style loveseat, table and chairs, kitchenette (portable one burner cooktop, microwave, small fridge/freezer, coffee maker, hot water pot, dishes, utensils, pots and pans), WiFi, SMART TV, private bathroom with shower, ceiling fans, portable fan, no air conditioning, and sliding door to lanai. Please note: Sitting room has ocean view, bedroom has view of small walkway garden. Continental breakfast items are stocked daily and we invite all guests to swim in the pool or lounge on the oceanfront lanai.

A few NOTES: One parking spot is provided per room in this quiet residential neighborhood. All Guest Rooms are facing the ocean on the lower level of the property and there are over 20 steps down (pictured) to traverse to the rooms. Guests are responsible for carrying their luggage to their rooms. Bookings limited to 2 guests per room (including children). Quiet hours are 9pm to 8am for the comfort of all of our guests, Mahalo!

While at Hale Kai (House on the Ocean) Hawaii, enjoy watching surfers, dolphins, and seasonal humpback whales during their annual migration to the Hawaiian Islands from the north Pacific. Excellent view

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: The view here is everything! The staff that brings breakfast and takes care of getting you clean towels if you need them also excellent. I would suggest maybe a check list for items you'd like for breakfast because one day they brought melon for the fruit and I don't like melon so it was wasted. I felt bad. My husband suggests replacing the ceiling fan in the bedroom because it did rattle some. We loved that it was close to town. We also liked watching the surfers every day.

Fantastic view from the lanai and fun to watch the nearby surfers. Loved hearing the coqui (frogs) at night. No A/C but does cool off a bit at night if you open all the windows. Since this place is a couple miles from town it was great to have the provided, daily breakfast (fresh fruit, yogurt, muffins, hard boiled eggs).

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Amazing location for scoping the surf from condo balcony and then surfing Honolii (better to drive as walking lanes narrow. Pool area is perfect for sunbathing and swimming. Sunrises are incredible. Comfy bed, good bathroom, and kitchen had everything you need including blender, electric plug-in stovetop cooker, mini fridge/freezer, and pots/pans/utensils. Starter coffee provided for drip coffee maker. Parking on a steep incline but it’s easy to get in and out. Awesome breakfasts w diverse fruit. Friendly family staff. Minor issues: No AC so nights can feel stuffy, bedroom fan noisy on high setting, sliding patio screen and glass door need a tune up (cleaned, silicone spray, new wheels) as tough to use. Would rate a solid 9 out of 10 and could be a 10 w minor fixes. Mahalo for our stay to all involved!

The breakfast provided each morning was delicious and plenty! The best part of the whole place.... The view! Could sit there for hours!

Lovely little location with amazing views. Only downside was the detergent that's used is extremely fragrant so the whole apartment smelled very strongly of it. Other than that we absolutely loved our stay.

The host (third party) never responded to our text inquires at check-in time. They must be out of business. The property looked like it hadn't been tended to in months. We were forced to book our stay in a different location nearby at the last minute. VRBO is working with us to get a refund.

Wonderful Stay

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Great location and generous breakfast included each morning. We stayed in the Pele Suite which included a living room and kitchenette. We loved sitting out on the lanai each morning watching the surfers and geckos. Small issue with the sliding screen door being off its tracks and rickety. We informed our contact at Salt Water and maintenance came out and fixed it during our stay. We were a little concerned about no AC in July, but the ceiling fans kept it cool enough while we were there. Overall we had a lovely stay and would return.

Wonderful

This was our first time staying at this property and loved it. The view was spectacular. Such a peaceful location just a few miles from downtown. I was a little nervous about there being no AC but it was not a problem at all despite the high temps during the day. The only downside was someone parking in our spot. The situation was eventually remedied. Definitely recommended. Will see if this place is available next time we visit Hilo.

Perfect Hilo Area Spot

Just a quick drive North of Hilo. Wonderful views of the surfing on Honoli'i Beach. Clean, comfortable, great pool with views. Everything you need. Great jumping off point for Hilo, the Hamakua Coast, the Volcanoes area, etc. Highly recommend!

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: The Pele suite was great. Had it's own little porch with great views down to the surfing action at Honoli'i Beach and across to Hilo. It is not an entirely private porch since the walkway to the 3 other suites runs between our sliding glass door and the porch, but the only traffic would be another guest leaving or arriving for the day. Very minimal. The suite was simple and clean, nothing fancy, it was great. The views to the ocean and Hilo were what it was all about. Thanks for a great stay!

Place was smaller than expected, tiny bathroom but has essentials. Overall comfortable. Amazing continental breakfast (fruit, muffins, hard-boiled eggs, milk) delivered fresh each day. Kitchnette has a plug-in stove and pans, which was handy. They also offer tea and coffee/coffee maker. Since the public path to get to other units is just outside the unit, there's little privacy. The loveseat could also use an update (not very comfortable). For a few days, this worked well for exploring Hilo and surroundings.

This place was perfect for us! The views from the outdoor patio and pool area couldn't be beat. Amazing sunrise every morning and were able to see whales. The unit itself was comfortable, had everything we needed. As mentioned there is no AC but it was still very comfortable with ceiling fans and a portable fan available. The breakfast was tasty with good variety each day. We would absolutely stay here again!

We had a wonderful stay and would book here again. The Pele suite was perfect for the two of us. King bed, bathroom with shower, living room and a kitchen. While all the above were small it was just right for what we needed. Delicious breakfast provided every morning with fresh fruit,yogurt,milk,muffins, and hardboiled eggs. Each room has a beautiful view of the ocean where we spent lots of time watching the whales come and go. We met some of the other people who were staying there who were very friendly. It felt very homey and comfortable. The place was clean and had a common room with some extra food and beverages for everyone to share. The neighborhood was quiet and we fell asleep to the sound of the tree frogs and crashing waves. We loved staying here!

Ocean views

Nice little apartment with a fantastic ocean view for whale watching. We enjoyed the complementary fruit / breakfast which is stocked in the fridge each day. It's nice and close to Hilo, but not quite walking distance. Furniture, bed, etc. are well thought out.In terms of compromises: The bathroom was OK (a fair amount of small bugs / ants; a bit small); there are a lot of frogs at night in this area which might annoy light sleepers; there is no proper kitchen. We were fine with these compromises for the great view.

Reviewer Comments: Pele Suite was definitely the nicer of the 4 suites in the Hilo Kai Suites complex and was well worth paying the extra few dollars to rent. It had a nice corner view of Hilo Bay and right above the pool, which was not real clean. The hot tub had been removed which was a disappointment. The unit was bit hot but did have a fan. We did need washcloths and towels which were provided after a phone call. Ants seemed to enjoy the kitchen as much as us. The parking was very hard to maneuver as it was in a very tight space with 3 other spaces on a steep hillside

Hilo vacation

Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: I must say, the view at the rental is fabulous. But we had a few issues. It would have been nice to have someone on site to check us in. When we first arrived, there was no soap in the bathroom. I texted the management company they said they would have housekeeping bring some over. That arrived the next day. The bathroom is extremely small. The breakfast was subpar. The fruit plate was poor as most of the fruit was unripe and hard. There was a jug of milk in the refrigerator and I think it was to add to some granola but there was no granola available. Finally, there were many workers around the property doing construction. The parking was very difficult. This is a nice place but it needs better hospitality.
