Kent is a great host! And I can’t say enough about the beauty of the house. Gorgeous restored craftsman surrounded by lush gardens… Felt like I was far away from the city, and yet Balboa park is right around the corner, as are shops and dining along North Park’s 30th Street. My only regret is not staying longer!

Our experience was exceptional from beginning to end. The host warmly welcomed us, gave us a fascinating tour of his historic property, and answered our texts promptly. Sitting on the private deck off the living room made us feel as though we were in a beautiful, tropical hideaway. Balboa Park and all it has to offer was just steps away in this lovely neighborhood.

We were very happy with the location. There were wonderful restaurants and they were easy to walk to. Also, the house was just as advertised. It felt like home. The host showed us around the house and answered all of our questions.

Restful Retreat Space

Our anniversary vacation was absolutely wonderful in the Grand Treetop Suite. Pictures do not do this tropical oasis justice! Whether we were enjoying the Craftsman home's spacious porch or the gorgeously landscaped courtyard with it's fountain and percola, we felt so relaxed. San Diego is one of our favorite cities, and this property's location is ideal for enjoying the area. We were minutes away from Balboa Park's museums, theaters, zoo, and beautiful green space. Petco Park, the Gaslamp District, and the waterfront were a short drive away, too. The owner, Kent, has created a gracious and tranquil retreat. He is a wonderful host. We definately want to come back!

Excellent house and location

Kent, a great host, greeted us when we got there and showed us around the property. Parking for our rental car was available right in front of the door (on street) or in the driveway. Walking distance to restaurants was a big plus. Also only a 5 minute drive to the zoo. Rooms were large and comfortable. King size Bed was comfortable.

A Trip We’ll Never Forget

Kent was kind enough to let us use his property and beautiful courtyards for our private elopement ceremony. The house is very clean, private, and the surrounding area is absolutely stunning. The location and neighborhood cannot be beat, with easy access to the park and local shops. Kent is super nice and does an exceptional job communicating and answering questions. This is such a special place, and I cannot recommend it enough if you’re visiting San Diego!!

Wonderful property and stay

We stayed for a week at Kent’s’ wonderful home. The property is beautiful with the gardens and the house are gorgeous. There was so much space.the location is so centrally located. Lots of nearby restaurants. I’d still recommend a car rental. Kent was kind enough to allow us an early check in. Some excellent spots for breakfast Colimas Hash House go go. The Taco stand is walkable ( but up a steep hill ) lol.All in all it was wonderful and we highly recommend it you will not be disappointed . P,us a bonus we got to experience an earthquake.

Treetop Oasis Steps from Balboa Park

We spent a wonderful week at Kent's "Treetop Oasis": our name for his beautiful property. It truly is unique in its location next to Balboa Park and all that the Hillcrest neighborhood offers in shopping and restaurants. The extensive property is surrounded by mature tropical vegetation with green views from every window. You feel as if you're in a nature sanctuary, not in the heart of an active city. All the amenities of the generously-sized second level apartment (including sharp knives, reading lamps, books) show Kent's attention to details in hosting his guests. As this was a repeat visit to San Diego, we found ourselves relaxing more at the rental than we had expected. It invited a different pace as we enjoyed watching the MANY hummingbirds at the property's flowers and fountains. There are three outdoor seating areas from which to eat, read, relax, visit: a must for our rental choices. Any guests or potential guests should read the "Owner" information posted on the listing. It gives the story of Kent's work in creating what makes this rental unique and exceptional. We will certainly join his many repeat guests (30 and counting) should our plans bring us back to San Diego.

Beyond Expectations – A Must-Stay in San Diego!

The location of this VRBO couldn’t be more perfect! The description of this amazing home is spot on, but truly, you have to see it to believe it—photos just don’t do it justice. Kent has created an incredible "compound" that offers both comfort and style, and he was an outstanding host. He was super attentive and available when needed, yet we had all the privacy we could ask for. His A recommendations for activities and restaurants made our stay even better. Kent went above and beyond to accommodate us in every way. Thank you, Kent! We’ll definitely be back next time we’re in San Diego.

Hidden Garden near Balboa Park

We had a wonderful stay at this property. Kent was a gracious host and gave us great recommendations for restaurants and places to see. The one bedroom apartment is spacious and comfortable. There are big windows everywhere so it is bright and cheery. The windows overlook the fantastic gardens that Kent has build over the years. Every view makes you feel like you are in a tropical paradise. The apartment was very clean and all the amenities we needed were provided. We hope to be back soon. It is the perfect resting spot for us when we visit family in San Diego. The proximity to Balboa Park is nice and being close to North Park and South Park neighborhoods is a big plus.

I purchased this property 25 years ago, spent several years renovating its 20 rooms and installing hundreds of assorted trees and shrubs. I was honored to have this property featured by "Save Our Heritage Organization's Tour of Historic Homes" in 2007. As a long-time house renovator and avid gardener - it has been exciting but daunting to maintain these sprawling gardens year after year.. My 25+ "Regulars" who visit annually offer encouragement and support. "Wow, Kent, the gardens have grown so much since last year." Some even lend a hand with Spring weeding. I'm pleased that nearly all Winter guests of 2022 returned in 2023.

Covering 3 parcel lots, nearly an acre -- this is one of the largest residential properties in Uptown San Diego. The upper floor Treetop suite offers 4 - 5 private rooms plus its own walled tropical garden. There are two bubbling fountains on site, and dozens of visiting birds provide a peaceful backdrop as guests spend time on their sunny terrace. Some guests tease that they enjoy the gardens so much -- they neglect local attractions..." relaxing instead... at their own private resort."

Picturesque Balboa Park is located next door while Downtown is 5 minutes away, the Airport about 15 minutes west. Hidden among lush greenery - visitors are startled to discover such a sprawling oasis in the central core of urban San Diego. A special surprise are the dozens of hummingbirds, hooded orioles, cooper hawks, owls, and green tropical parrots passing through, stopping to drink or bathe in one of the large garden fountains.
