Escape to a serene, private beach with breathtaking views and everything you need for the perfect vacation.

Welcome to Big Blue, where you can go barefoot from front door to your private beach and your unforgettable memories await.

Fully stocked kitchen, board games, comfy beds, modern bathrooms, modern outdoor patio, gas bbq grill, well lit space, extra home amenities, beach gear, gym and very attentive hosts.

Condo not suitable for children under 7.

One or two dogs are welcome with pre-approval and $100 pet fee.

This beach front condo style home is 1 of a 3 unit property. This particular unit is 2,071 sq. ft. with 3 bedrooms 2 bathrooms on the 3rd floor of a 3 story building. There is an identical 2,071 sq. ft. 3 bedrooms 2 bathrooms unit on the 2nd floor. These units have separate doors connected by 2 flights of stairs. The first floor has a foyer entrance to the stairs and a garage. There is also another separate third unit, a 1 bedroom 2 bathroom beach cottage that is not connected to this building.

This unit is an open floor plan connecting the kitchen, dining room, mini office space and living room with beach views. The kitchen has a large island flanked by two bar stools and it comes fully stocked. It also comes with complimentary coffee, hot cocoa, cream and sugar.

The master bedroom has king size bed with comfy memory foam mattress and 43 inch Smart TV. The newly updated large master bathroom has a rain fall shower, large bath tub and an extra vanity. The second bedroom is roomy with queen size bed, memory foam mattress and 43 inch Smart TV. The third bedroom has a bunk bed with 2 full size memory foam mattresses and a large bean bag to lounge in. The newly renovated hallway bath has a double vanity with stand up shower.

New modern outdoor patio with gas bbq grill and sitting area with fire table.

For the security of our guests and the safety of our home and beach amenities, we have external security cameras located at the front door, foyer, and beach pathway.

Spacious beach with neighborhood feel

We stayed here with family, occupying both level of the Big Blue house. This rental is close to grocery stores and other conveniences and is as close as you can get to the beach. Beach was never crowded. Lots of construction noise going on outside, but that can't be helped. Would stay here again.

Quiet beach - great family and pet friendly home!

The place was very clean. Check in and check out were a breeze. The owners were very communicative and had thought of everything, there were even snacks and dog treats. The bathrooms were very nice and beds were comfy. Easy access to the beach and they had TONS of beach gear for renters to use, we didn’t need to bring a thing! We had a wonderful family beach trip!

Outstanding host response; problem with heating resolved very quickly with one phone call. Kitchen outfitted better than the vast majority of rental properties . Very comfortable, spotless Parking very easy Highly recommended

Beautiful, clean house

The views of the ocean with dolphins playing was a great way to start the day. No need to bring anything extra as everything you need to enjoy the beach is supplied. In fact, all the basic necessities were provided for our brief stay. Although the unit is on the third floor, the steps were not exhausting. The pillows and mattresses were more comfortable than ours at home. Communication was excellent before and during our stay. We would stay at this comfy house again!

I’ve rented plenty of vacation homes, all very nice, but this one by far was the best!! So clean, comfy, convenient and the owners thought of everything. I’m not a beach girl, but I thoroughly enjoyed this stay as did my fiancé and son. Great location, fantastic views…I can’t say enough good things. If we visit the area again we’ll stay here again for sure

Private and quiet

We stayed here mid to late June and the area was very private only a few other people on the beach. The water was calm and it gave us just the relaxing get away we needed.

Visit before deployment

We found this place last minute so we could travel from Pa to say our see you layers to our Marine. Super clean, large place. Wonderful views of the ocean from the living room/kitchen windows. Everything we needed to get that family time in! If he ends up bk in port after deployment we’ll be back!!! Rick was great to work with, allowed us to move our bikes into the foyer area so they were safer. Thank you!!

Right on the beach - very cozy and easy.

My mom and I had a great stay at this beachfront condo during our trip. The location is superb, right on the beach and very accessible. It turned out to be a perfect spot for both relaxation and telecommuting. The condo is spacious with calming bedrooms that offer stunning views of the ocean through expansive windows. We appreciated the quiet beach atmosphere and the friendly locals. Additionally, the rental provides beach equipment which was very convenient. It's exceptionally dog-friendly, complete with treats and a designated feeding area for pets. Although the condo doesn’t have a balcony, it wasn’t an issue for us since the beach was just steps away. Overall, a fantastic vacation spot that catered to all our needs.

My stay at big blue getaway on the bay

The house and area itself was very beautiful and felt super comfortable. This place provided us snacks when we first arrived and beach toys and equipment to use at the beach along with board games and more. Overall the floor we stayed in truly made us enjoy our stay at the beach even more.

Amazing Vacation

The condo was amazing. This was our first experience with this host and was extremely pleased. The place was very clean with many extras to make our stay comfortable. The beach access was amazing, it was not crowed at all. I would strongly recommend.

Awesome stay

The Big Blue Getaway was a lovely place with ample amenities (kayaks, paddleboards, beach chairs, etc.) and attentive hosts. Being right on the beach was perfect for our family with ease to enjoy (very quiet and peaceful). We traveled toward Virginia Beach for most dining and activities (not much in surrounding area). Great stay!!

Our stay at Mermaid Suite

We all had an amazing time staying here. The place was clean and well equipped. They provided lots of high quality amenities and we appreciate it. Our chihuahua also loved it there and seemed happier than ever staying at that place. Access to the beach is lovely and location is close to Norfolk attractions and Virginia Beach. Relaxing stay at the Big Blue Getaway!

My family of 6 recently spent a few relaxing days at the Big Blue Getaway in the Mermaid Suite. The property was beautiful and well-appointed, inside and out, with plenty of room for all of us. From the Mermaid Suite, we had great views of the ocean and easy access to the beach. The property also provided plenty of beach gear: chairs/loungers, kayaks, paddle boards...the list goes on. Rick and Merlyn were also amazing hosts. They were very attentive and responsive throughout our stay. We would definitely make another trip to Big Blue!

Family beach trip

We had a great time staying in the Big Blue house. Rick and Merlyn were great hosts and the apartment had everything we needed to get quickly settled in. We had the beach largely to ourselves for much of the week. The location is a bit out of the way, which has pros and cons associated with it. As a plus, the beach is relatively quiet and limited to guests and owners of houses in the neighborhood (Willoughby Spit). Conversely, it is a bit out of the way from other attractions. We drove into Norfolk most evenings for dinner; the city has some great restaurants within about a 15 minute drive from the house. Based on what we wanted - a quiet place to bring our family and dog - it was perfect.

Willoughby Spit Big Blue Mermaid Suite

The Mermaid Suite was amazing. The view was amazing! So much room inside, with plenty of space for the 4 of us plus our dog. The bedrooms were very nice and nicely sized. The bathrooms were great plus you have your own laundry if needed. The kitchen was big and the layout was perfect. We loved our stay here at Willoughby Spit Big Blue! Very accommodating with lots of extras. It was wonderful to have a private beach area to relax and enjoy the surroundings.

Wonderful!

We had a great stay here! Merlyn and Rick went above and beyond on supplying everything we could need! They were very responsive and even coordinated some special surprises for our daughter who was graduating from Regent University during our stay! We loved the fireplace and used it about every night! Was great to have our own designated parking spot. Laundry room complete with detergent was nice too! Was so helpful to have places to put our suitcases and dirty clothes in each closet. They had extra supplies that came in handy and provided soap, shampoo, conditioner, bubble bath…you name it! We also thought it was great that we could have brought our dog if we needed to. The view was awesome as well! We would definitely stay here again!

Great family Spring Break

Rather than our typical Navy Lodge, we splurged on a beach rental and Big Blue was perfect! Rick and Merlyn havecreated a very relaxing and family friendly space. Their attention to detail was excellent- every need was anticipated- and made for a great week for me and my kids. We are looking forward to another opportunity to stay at Big Blue!

Rick and I met in 2017 and from day one, we loved going out and travelling. In our first year of dating, we visited the Florida Keys, the ancient Bristlecone trees of the Inyo National Forest, Cartagena, Columbia and El Nido, Philippines. In addition to our love of travel, we found that we enjoyed bringing those experiences into our home. In the following years, especially during COVID, we attempted several DIY home projects and interior design upgrades to our home.

Halfway through the COVID years, we thought about where we could be happiest while we telework, and the beach was on the top of our list. Eventually, we found the perfect getaway in Willoughby Spit, Norfolk, VA where we blended our passion for travel, home projects and interior design into our home and our vacation rentals. And from the start, we have truly enjoyed sharing our beach experience with others and hope to do more in the future.
