Acerca de este alojamiento

Red Mountain Retreat Restore - Reconnect - Rise

Twenty five acres of forest. A treehouse sauna in the canopy. A Steinway grand piano beside a stone fireplace. This isn't a rental — it's where your people come back together. 7BR estate near Mt. Baker sleeps 14 — three generations breathing under one roof. Grandparents claim the king suite. Kids take the lounge. Everyone meets at the fire. Families, retreats, offsites, intimate weddings. 52 min to Baker. 15 min to Canada. Private trails, Starlink wifi. Restore · Reconnect · Rise.

The space
Red Mountain Retreat is a 6,500-square-foot mountain estate on 20 private acres in Maple Falls, Washington, near the base of Mt. Baker. The lodge blends rustic elegance with modern comfort — rich leathers, warm woods, deep greens, and cozy textures throughout. This isn't a dusty cabin. It's a curated retreat.
WHERE YOU'LL SLEEP

4 King Bedrooms — including a primary suite on the ground floor with wood-burning fireplace, seating area, and vanity. All kings feature premium mattresses and luxury linens.
2 Queen Bedrooms — one located on the ground floor with attached half bath, perfect for grandparents or guests who prefer single-level access.
1 Twin XL Room — two twin XL beds upstairs, ideal for kids or additional guests.

Every bedroom has been set up for real sleep — premium mattresses, quality linens, forested views.
LIVING & GATHERING SPACES
The Great Room — A dramatic stone fireplace anchors this space, with a Steinway grand piano, open seating, and room for the whole group. This is where the conversations go late, the music happens, and the fire keeps everyone close.
The Family Lounge — Oversized sectional, smart TV, and enough space for movie nights, game day, or the kids to stake their own territory while the adults relax in the Great Room.
Full Kitchen — Fully equipped for large group cooking and meal prep. Counter space and seating for the kind of meals that become stories.
THE TREEHOUSE SAUNA
Our signature feature. A custom-built sauna perched in the trees above the forest floor, with a cold shower and mountain/forest views. Step out of the heat into the cold air among the canopy. Whether you're using it for recovery, reflection, or just a reset after a day on the mountain — it changes your day.

OUTDOOR SPACES

Private hiking trails winding through 20 acres of forest
Expansive lawn for games, outdoor dining, gatherings, or just standing still in the quiet
Multiple decks and seating nooks — morning coffee, afternoon reading, evening stargazing
Firewood provided for the Great Room fireplace (additional available locally)

WHO THIS PLACE IS FOR
Multigenerational Families — Four king bedrooms, two queens, and a twin room mean everyone has their own space. Two separate living areas let three generations coexist without friction. The ground-floor primary suite and queen bedroom make single-level access easy for grandparents. Twenty acres of trails keep the kids moving and the adults breathing.
Corporate Retreats & Offsites — Seven bedrooms, high-speed Starlink wifi, a dedicated workspace, and the kind of environment where real thinking happens. The treehouse sauna between sessions. The fireplace after dinner. This is where teams come to solve problems they couldn't crack in a conference room.
Wellness Retreats — Twenty acres of forest, a treehouse sauna, private trails, and the kind of silence that's hard to find. The space is being developed with intentional wellness programming in mind.
Intimate Celebrations — Weddings, milestone birthdays, reunion weekends. The expansive lawn, multiple decks, stone fireplace great room, and forest backdrop create a setting no event venue can replicate. The Steinway isn't decorative — it plays. If you're planning a special gathering, reach out and let's talk about how to make it work.

Other things to note
NEIGHBORHOOD / LOCATION
Red Mountain Retreat sits in the forests of Maple Falls, Washington — a small mountain community along the Mt. Baker Highway. This is the Pacific Northwest at its most raw and beautiful: towering evergreens, mountain air, and the kind of quiet that takes a day to fully hear.
SILVER LAKE PARK — Minutes Away
Kayaking, fishing, swimming, and picnicking right in the neighborhood. A quick drive and you're lakeside.
GLACIER, WASHINGTON — 20 Minutes
The charming mountain village of Glacier is your gateway to Mt. Baker — a handful of restaurants, a general store, and the unmistakable feeling that you've arrived at the edge of something bigger. It's the last stop before the mountain and a great excuse to stretch your legs.
MT. BAKER SKI AREA — 52 Minutes
Deep powder, legendary snowfall, uncrowded runs. Under an hour from your door to the lifts, surrounded by the Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest. Summer hiking and wildflower trails are equally spectacular.
CANADIAN BORDER — 15 Minutes
The Abbotsford-Sumas border crossing is just down the road. Cross into Abbotsford for Cactus Club, international restaurants, craft breweries, and shopping. Vancouver day trips are very doable.
MAPLE FALLS & MT. BAKER HIGHWAY
Small-town charm with local markets, cafes, and access to the Mt. Baker Scenic Byway — one of the most beautiful drives in Washington State.
BELLINGHAM — 45 Minutes
Full grocery stores, restaurants, breweries, Whatcom Falls Park, and the Bellingham waterfront. Your supply run destination and a great day trip in its own right.

GETTING AROUND
This is mountain country — you'll need a car. There is no public transportation to the lodge.
The property has abundant parking on premises with room for multiple vehicles (6 on pavement/assphalt and additional on yard in dry season). The driveway is accessible year-round, but in winter months (November–March), 4WD or AWD is recommended. Mountain roads can see snow, ice, and occasional closures.
Cell service is limited in the Maple Falls area. You'll have full Starlink wifi at the lodge and in the sauna, and cell service picks up near the Mt. Baker ski area and along portions of the highway. Plan accordingly if you need to make calls on the road.
Bellingham (~45 min) is the nearest city with full services — groceries, gas, restaurants, and medical facilities. Small local markets along the Mt. Baker Highway can handle forgotten items.

FIREWOOD — YOU'RE COVERED
All firewood for the lodge is included — no need to waste trunk space or money hauling bundles. There are two open-hearth fireplaces: one in the Great Room and one in the primary king suite. There's also plenty of firewood at the outdoor fire pit. The owners' total land is close to 100 acres, and Pacific Northwest winters bring down more than enough trees each season to keep the supply abundant. Light a fire, settle in — that's what this place is for.

PETS — YOUR DOGS NEED VACATIONS TOO
Growing up, I remember Ocean Shores being more of a vacation for the dog than anyone else — wide open beach, pure freedom. We can't offer sand and surf, but 20 acres of wide-open forest and meadow is a dog's paradise.
Dogs are welcome at Red Mountain Retreat. Here's how we make it work for everyone:

$35/night per dog (maximum 2 dogs)
Pet fees must be paid before check-in
Dogs must be over 1 year old

- PET REFUNDABLE DEPOSIT
There's an additional $200 refundable deposit per stay on top of the nightly pet fee. Let's face it — some dogs are low maintenance and some just let their presence be known (long hair, shedding, the works). This deposit exists to reward families with well-behaved, low-maintenance dogs and keep the program sustainable for everyone. The $200 refund is at the sole discretion of our cleaning team. If your dog was basically a ghost? You'll get it back. If the dog let it be known a dog was here — that deposit covers the extra care.
We strongly encourage bathing and grooming your dog before your trip. We're trying hard to balance keeping pet fees reasonable with the reality of what it takes to turn the lodge between guests. Help us help you bring your dog next time too. We want to make this work on get the $200 deposit back to you.

HOUSE RULES FOR DOGS

Pets are NOT allowed on furniture or beds — no exceptions
Dogs must not be left unattended at the property
If you don't fully trust your pooch at night — whether it's nocturnal exploring, chewing, or spraying — we provide multiple-sized kennels that can be placed indoors to keep your four-legged one in check overnight
Guests are responsible for any pet-related damage beyond normal shedding
Any fines or violations are the guest's responsibility.

I'm Mike, and along with my wife Angie I have the privilege of sharing the place I grew up. I first came to this mountain in 1975, when I was three years old. Life took me away for a while, engineering school, law school, marriage, but this land has a way of calling you home. Twenty-two years ago Angie and I came back to roost, and today three generations of our family live on and around the property. My sister, Dr. Laura Fox, lives on the adjacent land, and after my father passed, my mother joined Angie and me here as well.
When the lodge became more home than we could fill, we opened it up as a retreat for other families and groups to enjoy and Red Mountain Retreat (also known as Red Mountain Lodge) was born. Angie and I live about 300 yards away, tucked through dense forest. That means we're close enough to help with anything you need, but far enough that the lodge feels entirely your own. You get tremendous privacy and space; we're just a call away through the trees if something needs attending. We genuinely love hosting here, and we hope you feel as at home as we do.

Por qué escogió este alojamiento

My father escaped Bellevue in the 1970s and became one of the Pacific Northwest's earliest telecommuters, working as a patent attorney over a teletype machine, before fax machines, let alone the internet. He wanted to split his life between law and the forest, and he chose this mountain. The log home was built from cedar milled right here on the property, which gives it a feel you can't manufacture: an intentional rusticness with a clean, crisp modern twist.

Two things make this corner of the world special to us. The first sounds almost silly until you experience it — the water is just exceptionally good. It's tap water straight from a deep well, and guests always notice. The second is harder to put into words: there's a profound sense of peace here. The thing we've heard most often from guests over the decades is simply, "Wow — it's so peaceful." We've come to be protective of the calm energy of this land, and we'd love for you to come add to it. Silver Lake Park is five minutes away, the Canadian border about 25, and Mt. Baker's powder and trails an easy drive, but honestly, most people come for the quiet, and stay for it.

Qué hace que este alojamiento sea especial

The biggest feature is the treehouse sauna — I built it myself as a passion project, and by my own honest account it's one of the only things I've made with my hands that turned out genuinely beautiful. It sits up in the forest canopy: dual-heated with in-floor radiant heat plus a traditional sauna heater, double doors that hold the warmth, and a large window looking out to Red Mountain, eclipsed by Black Mountain to the east. If you're lucky, you'll spot deer passing on the forest floor below the deck. You preheat it right from the lodge — through a restored 1890s telephone from the Saskatchewan Telephone Company that runs the pathway lights, plus tablets that control the thermostats. Give it about an hour and it gets seriously hot.

Then there's Cedar Hall — a 36' x 26' open space that's pure fun. Optional matted flooring makes it perfect for everything from yoga retreats to combatives, or the most epic family dodgeball games you've had in years. Bluetooth sound through eight ceiling speakers, 25 lights, and for movie night we roll in inflatable furniture, an inflatable screen, and a projector — escape into a film, then open the garage doors and leaf-blow the popcorn out the next morning. 😁

Beyond the buildings, a private trail network climbs 850 vertical feet to true old-growth forest, and there's a legitimate gold mine dug near the turn of the 1900s — safe to explore, with an Indiana Jones-worthy entrance. Twenty-five private acres, and the kind of space and quiet you simply can't fake.
