Kate's Canalside Cottage

Enjoy Michigan! Bike on miles of trails, grill on the patio, relax at the fire pit, play cornhole outside, play board games indoors, or take your boat to the river.

Your pets are welcome. The back yard is fenced, and there is a dog park one block away.

LOCAL AREA
We’re located between trendy Marine City and Saint Clair, just minutes from the boardwalk, shops, restaurants, a small public beach, bowling alley, playhouse, and more. Sip coffee at a local cafe and watch the freighters travel down the river from Canada. The Saint Clair river is beautiful and you can clearly see Canada on the other side.

PARK YOUR BOAT TRAILER!
If you have a larger boat, there is ample parking in our driveway for a pickup truck and boat trailer, and we provide an electrical outlet for charging. You can launch your boat in nearby Saint Clair, where the public boat launch costs just $7 a day. There is a lovely marina, boardwalk, shopping and restaurants for you to spend the day on the Saint Clair River.


EXPLORE THE LOCAL AREA!
Walk just one block to beautiful East China park, which features a dog park, hiking trails, tennis courts, and a jungle gym play area for kids. From our front door, the spectacular Saint Clair River and a view of Canada on the other side is only a two minute walk away. And in case you need anything, there is a Dollar General within walking distance too.

BRING YOUR PETS!
Your dogs or cats are welcome. Please let us know in advance if you are bringing a pet. There is a $50 pet fee which covers the first two pets. Ask if you need to bring more. Please make sure to scoop the poop from the back yard and de-fur the house when you check out.

We provide dog bowls, a tie down to leash your dog, a pooper scooper, catnip, and a litter box on request. There's also a dog crate for furry friends who are chewers, aggressive, or have questionable potty skills. Just ask.

ENJOY BONUS KITTIES!
If you're a pet lover, you might run into our two friendly cats, Taro and Meensie, who live nearby. Taro is gray and Meensie is black with white paws. If they happen to come to the door, feel free to let them inside for purrs and petting during your visit. Just make sure to ask for the litter box and text us so we know where they are. (If you don't like cats, just shoo them away and they'll skedaddle.)

Baseball Tournament

We stayed one night at Kate's for my son's baseball tournament. It was conviently located 8 minutes from the tournament. The house was clean and Kate lives nearby so if you have any issues help is just around the corner. We had no issues though. Thanks Kate!!

Great stay

This was a very nice place to stay. It was the cleanest VRBO I have rented, it also came with everything a person needs for a short or long term stay with easy access to anywhere on the lake in a very nice neighborhood.Highly recommended.

Nice Place to stay

Nice place to stay that is close to both St Clair and Marine City. We did a father and son fishing trip stay here and we had a great time. The only issue was on Grill night the grill was outdated and did not work quite so well. Also we were hoping to park the boat in the canal behind the house but the water was down 2.5ft so it was a no go but that cant be helped, we still had a fun time.

We really loved the place. Took 2 dogs with us, on our way to pick up a new pup the next day, and had a peaceful overnight stay. Very nice home and neighborhood. I highly recommend and would stay here again. Everything went well. Thank you!

Property Not Ideal For Pet Owners or People With Small Children

The house is cute and tidy and sits in a lovely area on a quiet street. The host has provided everything you could possibly need for your stay, and there many thoughtful and unexpected touches. It's obvious that the host has worked very hard to provide a positive experience for the guest. Which is why I hate to write about our negative experience, but I feel it's important for future renters to know about it. We travel with our two dogs, so our number one priority is always a fenced-in yard. We won't book a house without it. If you look under "Popular amenities" on the first page of this listing, it states that the property has a fenced-in yard. But it turns out that only three sides are fenced in. The property line along the canal is wide open. Unfortunately, we were unaware of that fact. After driving for five hours, we arrived after dark and my husband immediately opened the gate next to the driveway and followed the dogs into the back yard for a little playtime. Because of the darkness, he couldn't see that the back was completely open until it was too late. By then one dog was getting ready to jump into the canal, and the other dog had slipped through the opened end of the fence and headed next door to the neighbors house. My husband and I are both nearly 70 and our dog chasing days are behind us, so it was quite an ordeal rounding them up. And we just don't feel it's honest to say that the property is fenced in, and I definitely would not have booked it had Iiknde.

Katherine is a great host. Pictures do not do justice as to how cute the cottage really is. Cottage is very clean and perfect location for exploring the town.

I hit any available tab on all e-mails and I could not get contact information for Katherine. As it turned out, it didn't matter because it wasn't necessary. We enjoyed our stay. Even had a couple of friendly kitty's that I assumed was the welcoming committee. They were a hoot!

Relaxing pet friendly

Kate's place is a comfortable, no frills home in a great location. You are close to Marine City which is a fun little town right on the river. Our host Katherine went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed. She provided bicycles for us that we took into Marine City for a really fun ride. The beds were comfortable and we had everything we needed for cooking meals. A couple of things to note, there was no dishwasher and the backyard was fenced along the sides but not along the canal. We were worried that our dogs would fall in or try to jump in, but luckily neither of those things happened. Also, the sunroom was very cool at night and very warm during the day. No one in our group slept there however. The other thing to note is that when we were there mid September, the canal was only about a foot deep. We were unable to kayak or catch any fish because of the low levels. Kate's hospitality makes up for any shortcomings. She left us treats and made several great recommendations for us to enjoy our stay. And we actually enjoyed the old fashioned decor! City. It was ae really enjoyed it.

it was ok

Had some really cute personal touches like the welcome sign with my name on it! Loved the puzzles and books there. Would be a place I came with the whole family, not really a romantic couples place. It could use updated a little, more attention to detail in the cleaning. Like there was a dirty kleenex under the pillow on the couch, the plates in the kitchen were more for decoration and were very dusty. The basket that was left for us with popcorn was a really cute touch but there was a half eaten tortilla chip in the basket so we didn't really feel comfortable eating the bag. But it was a very sweet idea. The owner seemed very attentive

Katherine’s canalside cottage

This cottage was the best we have stayed in by far. Cozy, clean, great location . Right between Marine City and St. Clair. Awesome backyard, caught Bass and Bluegill as soon as we unpacked the fishing poles. Katherine was the sweetest host , many personal welcoming touches , sign to welcome you as you enter the roomy home, chocolates on your pillow. Plenty of books, movies, games also if you wanted. Will definitely book again soon ! Nice relaxing couple of days !

Lovely and pet friendly

The place was well stocked with cooking supplies, dishes, and cleaning supplies. The king bed was fantastic! Our dog liked the yard too, and the tie out was super handy given the backyard is open to a canal. I would definitely stay again.
