Beautiful location, house in disrepair
We checked out of Five Star today and were quite disappointed in the condition of the home. It was in utter disrepair. When we arrived, the lock on the door didn’t work and no one was able to come fix it for 2 days. The wrong wi-fi information was provided in the check in instructions.
There were several structural issues and fire hazards throughout the home. The sliding door in the master bedroom was nailed shut, preventing us from being able to use it or access the outside from the room. The door to the patio in the second bedroom was rotted and leaked rain water every time it rained. The screen door on that room would not close because the hinge was broken. There was water damage in that bedroom with peeling paint. Additionally, the pocket door to the half bathroom was broken and the door would not stay on the tracks, needing to fixed several times throughout the week. The light above the kitchen sink was dangling by its wires above the sink.
The deck was recently replaced but when anyone walked up or down the stairs the entire house shook. I would not be surprised if that whole side of the house has rot, based on the condition of the bedroom door. There were also decking nails all over the ground around the pool and could have been stepped on by anyone using the pool.
The pool was poorly maintained and the edges were loose all around the pool. The dock was in disrepair and not easily accessed. The landscaping was also not maintained and the grass was long, needing mowed, and the shrubs were overgrown.
There were uncovered electrical outlets leaving open receptacles behind beds. Electrical cabinets were behind beds.
The beds and mattresses were extremely hard and uncomfortable. At least 2 of the guests woke up with what appeared to be bed bug bites on their legs. The linen company dropped off the linens for the next guests on Monday (after our Saturday check in) and left them in an outside plastic bin, so the “clean” linens sat outside for the entire week.
The TV in the 3rd bedroom was not functional and had vertical lines through it. We only found the correct wi-fi information in the packet left in the house.
While we enjoyed our stay in Sandbridge and love the quaint beach town, we would most definitely not recommend this property to anyone. The cost of the week does not in any way match the quality of the home. We understand this is a rental property and do not expect high end finishes, we do expect the home to be safe and comfortable. We would not use Vacasa again when looking for rental properties.
We are also owners of rental properties and would shut this property down for repairs and updates. It is not in acceptable condition for renters who spend their hard earned dollars for a vacation rental.
