The property has an incredible view from the Great Room and has access to a nice part of the ocean with a bit of sand and a view of lots of tide pools that collect on the rock reef.The pool is nicely heated and the hot tub was also fantastic.Aside from the great views and amazing location, the best part of our stay was the host Richard who was helpful with anything we needed and even called us when we needed to evacuate for a tsunami.

Magical

Richard’s home is an amazing retreat to paradise. Our family could not have enjoyed the experience more.The home is laid out spaciously with many areas to spread out and enjoy the sights and sounds of the surf and ocean.The support once on site was immediate and gracious.The pictures are beautiful but the in person experience is far better.We hope to return again soon.

Fabulous Hawaiian oceanfront stay

This was the vacation dream to be on the ocean watching sunrises every morning. The house is beautiful! The host was very accommodating and welcomed us with lots of information about the house and our stay. It was a joy to be able to stay in such a beautiful place as we vacationed the island of Oahu!! I highly recommend it and I will be back for a third time very soon!!!

This property has a wonderful combination of things to do between the beachfront access, hot tub, pool, and everything that Kailua has to offer. Everything is well maintained, towels well stocked, kitchen well equipped, and property manager and owner accessible for any questions or issues. 10/10

The best vacation rental we’ve ever booked

This is an incredible property. The views are absolutely stunning, the house is fully stocked, the pool area is lovely, and there’s a jacuzzi. What more could you want! We traveled with our 4 year old and 4 month old and it couldn’t have been a better vacation for our young family. You could stay at this house all day and not leave and it would be an incredible vacation. It’s a plus that beaches nearby are some of the most beautiful in the world. Richard was great to communicate with. We cannot wait to go back!

Lovely Property and View

My family stayed at this wonderful Kailua home for 6 weeks in May/June and had an incredible experience! The property location and view from the main living space are perfection and the house had everything to offer that we were looking for. Hailey (house manager) and Ramon (house maintenance) were so pleasant to work with whenever we needed anything. We have two kids and we ventured between the pool (on the garden side of the home) and hot tub (on the ocean side) all day long. The upstairs living space/kitchen was open and spacious and the breeze off the ocean always felt incredible. The kitchen, bathrooms and garage (pool/beach toys/chairs) had everything that we needed to make our stay convenient and enjoyable. We went into downtown Kailua and to the beach constantly with ease. We are so happy with our trip and would absolutely recommend this property to others who want a relaxed and lovely vacation!

Beautiful place, beautiful view, close to everything

Over the top wonderful in every way. We had such a great time, it easy perfect. We probably ate poke from Tamura's everyday, and drank way to much wife from their great selection

I presume that you meant "way too much wine" from Tamura's. I would highly recommend getting poke from Nico's seafood which just opened up walking/biking distance from our house. It's always been one of our favorite restaurants on the island, and having their second store so close by is simply wonderful.

Amazing ocean-front view, beautifully furnished, artistically decorated, ocean on one side, and landscaped pool on the other side. I splurged and it was worth the cost especially since my spouse had mobility issues.

Amazing views in a beautiful home with fantastic hosts

We truly loved our Hawaiian vacation in Kailua and couldn’t be happier with this home. It is beautiful and spacious with plenty of expansive views of the ocean. The home is in excellent condition with plenty of amenities and the hosts (Lianne and Ramon) were very gracious and gave us many recommendations for restaurants, shopping, parks, beaches, etc. Thank you so much for letting us enjoy your beautiful property!

Amazing house! The best host!

We come to Hawaii every summer. And this house was a real gem! Such a beautiful direct ocean view! Very clean and stylish place with everything you needed. In a great location, right near heaps of great places to eat and beautiful beaches of Kailua and Lanikai! Richard was very accommodating and helpful and checking in on us regularly to make sure we had everything we needed. Recommend !!!

This vacation home in Kailua is a genuinely delightful retreat. It offers stunning ocean views, remarkably breathtaking during sunrise. Nestled amidst lush greenery, the property boasts a spacious interior adorned with contemporary decor and abundant natural light, complete with multiple comfortable bedrooms. We definitely enjoyed the Zen like atmosphere of the pool and garden at the front of the house. The fully equipped kitchen greatly facilitates meal preparation, enhancing the overall experience of our stay. This space is ideal for relaxation, adventure, and creating cherished memories with loved ones.During our visit in April, we had the unique opportunity to observe some lively indigenous shearwater birds that roost and nest nearby at night, coinciding with the onset of their mating season. While their vocalizations can be a bit energetic and lively and may require some adjustment for those who favor a quieter sleeping environment, it's worth noting that the property owner has thoughtfully provided earplugs to help mitigate the noise. Overall, this is an enchanting place to unwind, with just a minor consideration regarding the presence of local wildlife.

IT WAS AN EXCELLENT STAY, WE WERE MET BY STAFF WHEN WE ARRIVED AND SHE EXPLAINED ALL ABOUT THE HOUSE. SHE ALSO MADE SURE WE WERE ABLE TO GET MY HUSBAND INTO THE HOUSE IN HIS WHEELCHAIR. IT WAS A PERFECT STAY FOR US - WE ENJOYED JUST BEING THERE AT THE HOUSE - WE TOOK ADVANTAGE OF THE SWIMMING POOL, AND HOT TUB, AND OF COURSE, IT WAS 5 MINUTES TO THE CENTER OF TOWN KAILUA. WE WOKE UP TO THE CRASHING SOUNDS OF THE WAVES EVERY MORNING, AND DRANK OUR LION MACADAMIA NUT COFFEE, AND WE WENT SLEEP EACH NIGHT LISTENING TO THE SOUNDS OF THE WAVES. THERE WAS MORE THAN ENOUGH ROOM AND NOONE FELT CROWDED OR CRAMPED, AS A PARTY OF 5, WE ALL HAD OUR OWN SPACE TO ENJOY. CAN’T SAY ENOUGH ABOUT THIS BEAUTIFUL PLACE - AM CURRENTLY RECOMMENDING TO ALL MY FRIENDS, AND ANYONE WHO WILL LISTEN TO US TALK ABOUT OUR FABULOUS HAWAIIAN HOLIDAY!

Beautiful home, outstanding ocean and mountain views

This is the second time we have rented this lovely home. The sunrise over the ocean ( seen from Ocean side deck and great room windows) and sunset behind the mountains ( seen from upstairs lanai) starts and ends each day with beauty. Enough room for grandparents, parents, teen grandchildren to be together and have own space. The heated, saltwater pool, walking beautiful Kailua beach, biking for us grands. Mountain hikes, tennis at free , available Kailua courts ,boogie boarding at Kalama section of Kailua beach , zip lining at Kualoa ranch for younger set. Wonderful and relaxing time was had by all. We hope to be back soon.

The Most Amazing Home

We reserved this gorgeous home to accommodate my husband and myself as well as our grandkids (aged 15 and 12) for a long weekend visit, and our adult children for a week. First, this place is as spectacular as the photos show. But there's no way to capture by words alone the full wall of floor-to-ceiling windows that mesmerized us as we looked out at the ocean every day. Everything was super clean and even spices were well-stocked, as were pots and pans and kitchen tools. The AC kept the place comfortable on the hottest days - but the relaxing lanai and private pool were our favorite ways to keep cool. Also, it was a quick drive to the nearest beach and not far to Kailua Beach, our favorite. While we didn't need much help, the property managers were very responsive.

Absolutely stunning home and location. The constant sound of the waves was instant relaxation!

Our family thoroughly enjoyed our week in paradise! The house was well equipped with everything you could need. The house was spacious so everyone had their own space to read, watch TV, sit by the pool, lounge on the deck by the crashing waves or just stare out the huge expanse of windows at the ocean. Our only complaint was that the air conditioning upstairs struggled to keep things cool and dry and the lack of an AC in the tv room on the first floor meant it was a bit warm at times (even when the windows and screen door was open tonletnin the breeze). The bedrooms, however, were extremly cool and comfortable for a sound sleep! We enjoyed many good restaurants in the neighborhood, but weren’t too far from Waikii and other activities on the Island. I’ve been to Oahu many, many times, but never on the east side. It is THE only place to be on this island! Mahalo for a wonderful vacation.

Sadly, the tradewinds haven't been blowing much in the past few weeks and it has placed a bit too much stress on the upstairs AC. We're calling in the AC repair company to see what can be done to immediately improve it's performance I'm so glad to hear that you enjoyed the windward side of the island. Please come back again! July 3rd - we've added freon to A/C unit upstairs and it seems to have resolved the problem.

A true slice of paradise in Kailua

Just spent a month at this outstanding property and I cannot say enough about what a magical place it is. The location in this gorgeous neighborhood of Kailua exceeded our expectations. It is perfectly located to explore all that the island offers and is located near every convenience any family would need. Kailua is a charming beach town with some of the most beautiful beaches on all of O'ahu and we were so happy that we chose this house as our home base to explore. The property is located right on the beach and even though you cannot swim right there and it was a dream to wake up to the incredible view and the sound of the ocean every day. The house is well-maintained and beautifully furnished. The salt water pool is just dreamy and we loved every moment spent in its healing waters. The owner, Richard, is a wonderful, caring and communicative host and tended to our every need. He works with fantastic managers who are on call to help with any issue that came up. Was just an outstanding experience and I truly hope to return someday. 10 out of 10. Thank you Richard for an unforgettable month that we will never forget!

Beautiful house and great location

We loved staying in the Kailua oceanfront home. We had a total of 2 families staying there. There was plenty of space. There are limited houses with both a pool and oceanfront so this house fit our needs well. The house was perfectly clean and I am usually picky about this. I really liked house some of the basics were provided (not always the case with vacation rentals) such as: paper towels, shampoo, soap, beach towels. The rental property manager was prompt with a few issues we had. However, the big downfall was that one of the room's air conditioner was broken. Our kids had to sleep in our room the first night due to being uncomfortable without AC. They had to fall asleep in our room all the other nights and then we transferred them to their room afterwards. This was majorly problematic. With this price point, this should of been taken care of prior to our arrival or a portable AC unit should have been there.

Kate - you're right that the air conditioner needed to be repaired. It did take too long for the A/C technician to come out and replace the part and it also made me quite unhappy. I am in the midst of purchasing and testing a portable A/C in case this might happen again in the future. My sincere apologies for this problem, and your suggestion is one that I will act upon in case this should happen again. Richard

Great location but not perfect

The house is in a near-perfect spot with the best views of the surf. You can enjoy it from the patio deck on the main floor or the wall-to-ceiling windows on the second floor. The house was well-equipped for our 5-day stay. We ate in most nights with largely takeout style from grocery stores and poke vendors. The house did not have much in the way of condiments so cooking would have been harder without basic supplies like vinegar and olive oil for starters. Also, we would have liked if the owner would provide more towels. There was only one beach towel per person and no extras for baths/hands. While I like having a washing machine for our family of four to do a load of laundry mid-trip, I did not want to be stressing over laundry so that we could have a clean beach towel for the next morning's excursion. The washing machines were pretty worn and the dryers took forever to dry towels so we were having to get up late at night to check and re-run the cycle. All in all, we had a great time but given the price point of the house, it would have been nice to not have these inconveniences.

Thank you for these comments. Normally, there are supplies left by ourselves and previous tenants such as olive oil, cooking oils, and vinegars left in the refrigerator. Unfortunately, our cleaning probably was overly aggressive in cleaning out the refrigerator and emptied everything out. We shall instruct the cleaning crew to leave the less perishable items such as oils & vinegars for the next set of renters. With regard to the towel situation, our policy is to leave two sets of bath, hand, and face towels per person and one beach towel per person in the incoming party. I do wish that you had informed the local property managers, Ramon & Lianne, about your need for more beach towels as they would have been happy to supply you with more as required. We'd love for our tenants to have their experience be as positive as possible. The dryer is indeed a problem and we're looking into repairing or replacing the dryer immediately. Thank you for pointing this out, and we'll try to remedy this situation right away. Much mahalo for your nice reviews and good suggestions. NOTE : January 27th update - I have replaced both the washer & dryer with new machines. They are both Kenmore front loading machines from Sears with large capacity. It will make washing clothes & towels much easier for tenants and the property manager. Thank you for bringing this to my attention.

Great location, amazing views at Kaimalino Kai.

Got in just a bit early and was welcomed by Lianne the property manager. Very easy check-in. The house is beautiful and pretty well appointed. The bedrooms are spacious have plenty of towels and other necessities. The upstairs has the WOW factor with incredible views. The kitchen is well appointed as is the overall flow of the 2nd level. We loved the pool! We spent many hours out there to cool off and have fun after doing other activities around the island. I would have given a 5 star rating except for a few items. During our check-in day, we were going barefoot through the house, ala island style, and noticed our feet were black. There seemed to be a significant amount of dust on the counter tops as well as the desk upstairs. They have cloth slippers available but they didn't seem that clean so we took a pass on using them and used our own instead. The two main bathroom shower doors need more through cleaning as do the downstairs patio doors to the deck. The master bath was great but the jacuzzi tub isn't functioning. Having a $600 cleaning fee I should think more would go into the effort of providing $600 worth of cleanliness. Overall I would definitely recommend Kaimalino Kai as a great destination as well as a good value. The items listed above should have no baring on deciding whether or not to stay at this property as they are easily remedied.

This issue of improving the cleanliness of the house is definitely something that we need to improve upon. Thank you for this review, and it's an important point that will get much more attention going forward. Mahalo for the honest feedback, and doing a better job on the departure clean is going to be high priority for both the owner and property manager.

Dramatic view!

We (six adult family members) stayed for the Christmas Eve to New Years Eve week, and had a wonderful time. The manager Lianne was very responsive and helpful. She met us at the property upon arrival and gave us a tour and overview of the house, and was easily accessible by text and cell phone call The location of the house is in a high-end neighborhood, right on the water. It is very close to a Safeway grocery store and within walking distance (about 15 minutes) to a nice beach. President Obama was staying at a house within walking distance. The view of the water and coastline is the highlight of the property. Being on the windward side of the island and during the winter, the wind and waves during our stay were relentless but spectacular. It was not a place where we could lie out on the beach and relax due to the wind, but we enjoyed each morning and cocktail hour taking in the drama and power of the waves and the view. The sun rises on the water/view side, and sets in the backyard, which is what makes the front yard pool and lanai outside the kitchen so valuable and pleasant. The sun sets over the mountains and palm trees view in the back and is beautiful, which you can enjoy from the lanai or from a chair by the pool while barbecuing. Our only critical comments are that the pool was cold and therefore not enjoyable for swimming in the winter weather, and the barbecue was not cleaned before our stay. There are two full bathrooms downstairs with the three bedrooms. One is ensuite with the master, but the other two bedrooms (4 adults in our case) share the one other bathroom, although there is a full bathroom upstairs also. While there, we spent our days at Makapuu beach and lighthouse hike, Lanikai pillbox hike, horseback riding at Kualoa Ranch and Pipeline beach, golf at Koolau Golf Club, kayaking to the Mokuloa islands from Lanikai, and a day in Waikiki; all of which are within reasonable driving distance. We would definitely stay again!

Mahalo for your kind review and thoughtful insights. I have also noticed that the pool water is quite chilly during the last few months and we're bringing out the solar pool heater installer to check to ensure that it's operating correctly. It's possible that the temperature sensor is no longer functioning properly and may need to be replaced. FEB 16th UPDATE - I replaced the solar pool heater with an electric heat pump precisely because the solar pool heater wasn't effective enough during the cooler months. Even though it was working properly, solar pool heaters can't raise the water temperature enough in the winter months so now that problem should be eliminated.

An outstanding beach-front property

My family rents homes once or twice per year, typically on the water in places such as Lake Tahoe, Hawaii, Chesapeake Bay, the Carolinas, and the Puerto Vallarta area of Mexico. We also own condos in Maui and Puerto Vallarta. So, it takes a lot to impress us. Kaimalino Kai is beautiful inside and out, and has a to-die-for location on a rocky beach in Kailua -- a much more laid back part of Oahu, very near where President Obama and his family sometimes vacation. Our vacation habits typically revolve around reading, entertaining, long walks, and sampling new restaurants. If you like the sound of the ocean waves, and demand a comfortable, impeccabily furnished and maintained home, this is for you. It is suitable for up to 6 adults in our opinion, with three bedrooms and three baths. The bedroooms are all on the first floor, along with a living room, as well as extensive outdoor decks facing the ocean. One of the bedrooms opens onto the living room area, but it can be closed off for total privacy (there is a separate entry door into it from the main hallway). One of the baths is upstairs. But it is the upstairs great room that will bring us back. The pictures do not begin to do it justice. This, combined with an additional outdoor lanai area overlooking the very private front (yes, front) yard pool and BBQ area, are to die for. The pool area is wonderful in its own right. We entertained three other couples one afternoon/evening, and they all were very impressed. One of the men brought his kayak, which he was able to alunch on a sandy beach area nearby -- the entry to which is about 200 yards from the home. We BBQd in the front yard while the ladies waded in the warm pool, then retired to the great room for a wonderful meal surrounded by the sounds of the waves on the beach and with a view of a beautiful sunset. Due to the high quality of this home and its furnishings we do not think it is suitable for young children. All rentals we have visited are lovely, but there is often a drawback or two, such as a cramped master bath or furniture that is showing its age. Nothing of that sort will greet you here. We will be back.

We put a lot of time, effort and money into maintaining an oceanside home which is constantly battered by the elements of the sea, so hearing that any guest appreciates all of this work really warms our heart. A truly memorable house

We had the pleasure of staying at Kaimalino Kai for 10 days in July. We were three adults and one toddler. The house was everything we expected and more. I cannot express how breathtaking the view from the upstairs is. The pictures don't do it justice. Wake up early and enjoy the sunrise over the horizon. We enjoyed the open nature of the kitchen/dining/living room. We would have music playing over the built in speakers each day which made the upstairs an oasis. The rest of the house was just as nice. It was obvious the owners took great care in the design, construction, and furnishings throughout the house. The little touches were there which resonate well with me. Soft towels and bedsheets, mattress toppers, high quality cookware, pool toys, gourmet kitchen, strong water pressure. Each of the bedrooms had it's own air conditioning unit if you wanted to escape the humidity. Otherwise, opening the windows gave you that nice sea breeze. We all slept very well. The kitchen was stocked very well for families ready to cook during their stay. All the spices and basics were there. There was a Safeway supermarket 1 mile away and a much nicer Whole Foods about 4 miles away. If you wanted to order food for takeout, the kitchen is stocked with menu's and recommendations. The pool was well maintained. About 4 feet deep. It was a great alternative to the beach. The owners kept a nice collection of beach and pool toys including boogie boards, noodles, and pails. It saved us the hassle of renting stuff. When we went to the beach, it was only a 5 minute drive. Kailua beach has 2 parking lots which were never a problem to park in. Lanikai took a bit more thought. The waves were fun yet gentle in Kailua. A great place for children. North Shore is a bit more dangerous for young children because of the strong undertow. Aside from not being on a swimming beach, location was excellent. The shoreline is sharp and rocky behind the house. You can enjoy the sound of waves crashing on the rocks back there. The house is also near a little cove of shallow water that sea turtles frequent. We saw at least 8 milling about. Pretty cool, especially for my toddler to see. For sightseeing, the drive to Honolulu was 30 minutes, 1 hour to the North Shore, 20 minutes to Hanauma Bay. I had 1 minor issue. Wifi was inconsistent. Salt corrosion seemed to be the issue in the connector. Time warner fixed it promptly. Bottom line is the house is terrific and you won't be disappointed.

A holiday to remember

We had a great time spending Thanksgiving with the family at this property. It looks even better in person and is extremely comfortable. This side of the island gets a great constant breeze and rolling waves which should be experienced. We appreciate the hospitality and hope to visit again soon.
