The house is beautiful, and so well situated. Golf courses were all close by, the beach is steps away, and we walked to really great resturants every night!Kathy and Steve, our hosts, were in communication with us from booking up to the day of our arrival. Very much appreciate that kind of attention when we are trying to arrange a fun get away for our family

Family Tradition Continues

This is our 8th year staying at this house. We had stayed before Steve and Kathy bought and remodeled the home. Each year we seem to add another person and it still doesn’t feel cramped! There’s always plenty of room for all of us to spread out and have our own space! The third floor is perfect for our teenagers and they love the space it gives them! The house is beautifully decorated and meticulously maintained! Having the beds already made and the bathroom towels provided is a bonus we appreciate! We love the location to the beach and all of the local restaurants! Ideally, we could park the cars when we arrive for the week and not need them, again, until we leave! Steve and Kathy are incredible to work with, which is why we continue to go back year after year!

It is a wonderful place. Host was very attentive and responses quickly. There was some confusion on a golf cart but the host made it right. Plenty of room for our group of 13.

Great Family Vacation

This well stocked house was perfect for our family of 16. The property is in a great location. An easy walk to the beach off a quiet street but also close to the restaurants and shops at Surfside pier. The owners were responsive and did everything to make our stay perfect.

Another outstanding vacation

This was the 1st time staying at The Happy Heron, last time The Lazy Loon. The Happy Heron did not disappoint. It was a family vacation of 16, 9 being grandchildren who ranged from 1-15. All had more fun than I even expected. Kathy and Steve(the owners) couldn’t have been more helpful. The house is beautifully furnished, well equipped with whatever you might need and an absolute perfect location. My entire family said many times how lucky we were to find this rental along with the owners. I can’t recommend their properties enough. If you are looking for an ideal vacation that has all the perks to make it a wonderful stay, look no further than This property or one of their others. Definitely a 5* vacation!

Amazing beach house for a large group

Perfect for 8 adults and 8 kids age 10-16. We had plenty of room for all 4 couples to have their own rooms and the couple w the youngest kids had a nice 2 bedroom suite w the jack and Jill to keep an eye on the younger 2. The top floor was perfect for the older boys and oldest teen girl in the small separate queen room up there. The kids had their own space up there to watch TV, play video games and the oldest teen boy loved reading on the balcony or listening to his podcasts while watching the waves. Kids did their own laundry up there w their washer and dryer set up and adults had the first floor washer/dryer set up to use. Never had to wait for someone else’s laundry to be done. Showers were great with good water pressure, plenty of hot water and drained quickly. The 2 fridges are a must with large groups, perfect amount of space for all 4 families. The 2 large tables allowed for us to play a few games and put a few puzzles together, up to 8 of us at a time for comfortably playing Mexican train. Kitchen is well stocked w supplies, made several large meals, breakfasts and lunches for all 16 people without a problem of room or needing a device or utensil. The pool area is phenomenal, great outside shower to get that sand off before jumping in the pool or heading inside. And the beach chairs were perfect, esp since I flew in. Plenty of room to park 3 large vehicles and 1 mid size. Easily walkable to Surfside Beach pier for ice cream and meals out. Short drive to mini golf. Host is great with communication and instructions are well laid out. This host has more rules outlined up front than others I’ve worked with, but I’ve found those are some of the best places to rent because the houses are well taken care of. You definitely want to stay here for your next beach vacation.

Wonderful house with a great location for our family of 12!

We found this house to fit our needs perfectly. Everyone was happy with their sleeping arrangements and there was plenty of room for everyone to eat at the same time in the same room. The kitchen was wonderfully equipped with all we needed and the two refrigerators were very helpful. The location was very close to the beach access and the pool was terrific. The grill was large enough to cook hamburgers and hot dogs for all of us at one time which surprised us. We didn't expect it to be that large. My grandsons loved the room on the top floor with the captain bunks, king bed, large sofa, big tv and foosball table. All in all, we loved it and will look forward to staying there again next year.

Loved the Happy Heron

We had a great stay with our extended family for our son’s graduation from CCU. Perfect house in a perfect location. Can’t really say much more. Five stars for sure. Highly recommend the Happy Heron and all guests had a great time.

Best family vacation ever

We have rented many vacation homes in the past. The Happy Heron was the best location for our family vacation. So close to everything. The house was perfect for our large family. Kathy and Steve called as soon as we arrived to make sure that everything was as we expected. Every room was filled with all the little things that made you feel right at home. They even updated us throughout the week on activities that were happening around us that we might like to attend. The kids cried when we had to leave. We can’t wait to stay here again. Annual Beach Trip

If you are going to surfside and need....lots of rooms...right at the beach....with a pool....in walking distance to great restaurants....look no further! We have stayed on the beach in surside and garden city for years. This house, while not right on the beach, might as well be! You can see from the pictures the great balcony views (on three levels!) to the ocean. We rented chairs and umbrellas from a local vendor, so our walk to them from the house was about 2 minutes! You can easily go back and forth to the house from the beach, so you don't have to travel down with a bunch of stuff. The house is fantastic for large groups. The upper floor took care of 6 17/18 year old boys, the middle floor was the hang out area and took care of one couple, then the bottom floor is all bedrooms and easily took care of the rest of us. The pool is awesome for just lounging around and cooling off in the heat. The owners/hosts were very easy to communicate with and they have taken care of everything. We used the grill several times and cooked and the two fridges was a nice touch, so we had plenty of room for all of our drinks and food. Again, we've stayed many years in the area and this is one of our favorites for sure! Just book it, you won't regret it at all.

We are a family of 5 who love our homes in Surfside Beach SC, “The Family Beach”. Throughout the years we vacationed at many different places along the coast of North and South Carolina. When we stayed at Surfside Beach, we knew this was the place we wanted to purchase a home at. It has so much more to offer than the other coastal areas we visited previously- it is a small family-oriented town only 2 miles long, that is clean, safe, and close to all the activities of the Myrtle Beach Grand Strand, and is golf cart and pedestrian friendly so you can leave the car parked and just enjoy family time.

When we were younger, we stayed at many places, but they always seemed to let us down- issues with cleanliness, location, amenities, etc. We decided if we were ever fortunate enough to own a beach home that we, or people who visited our home, would never experience these issues. We offer everything possible at our homes. We handle all rentals on our own, being most rental companies are concerned with profit above guest satisfaction. We do everything possible to ensure a 5 star stay for our guests who often become friends over the years, and even have a local contact, who is a friend of ours, to help handle any unforeseen issues that one may incur during their stay.

We try to make sure our homes have everything that you would have at your personal home like a well-stocked kitchen and laundry, plus nice amenities while on vacation like private pools, hammocks, linens and house towels, beach toys and chairs, ping pong, and some of the homes also have elevators, and included golf carts. On top of all of that our places are clean, and none of them are very far from the beach, or shopping, restaurants, and attractions.

This is one of our nicest homes and is close to pier and next to the beach. Hopefully we will be able to retire to this area and home soon :)
