My husband and I arrived July 6 for a week booked at this cute house on a gorgeous property. On arrival we spent hours killing numerous roaches. I chalked that up to summer in Florida & assumed we just had to live with it. There was an overwhelming smell of mildew competing with choking amounts of air freshener. After turning them off and putting out bowls of vinegar to absorb the smell of mildew, figured we’d just put up with it. We loaded up with food, & put all of it in the fridge and freezer. I cleaned with peppermint oil to repel roaches but still found them, even 1 in my possessions.
Each morning we woke with new insect bites but thought- maybe mosquitos? Nite 3 was the worst with a feeling of things crawling. Next afternoon I washed sheets & thought I should check the mattress. There were tiny dead roaches, what looked like fleas and something else. Roach bites?
We decided that this had gone way way beyond unreasonable and checked into a motel. I informed the owner, who fully refunded our stay, but we also had to throw away all of our food. The next morning a roach ran out of a wetsuit leg while my husband was getting it on.
Spent most of the next day emptying, cleaning & treating the truck; laundering EVERYTHING, both for mildew smell & roaches.
We continued vacation but July 22 roaches crept out of gear in the truck. We ended trip then-did the treatment & laundry again. Don’t know if we can salvage the truck.
