Cozy Jersey Shore Cottage near Sandy Hook Beach - OPEN YEAR-ROUND

Wonderful guests with a well-behaved dog! Sheila and Tom took great care with the cottage, were friendly, quiet, and left everything extremely neat and tidy. They were a pleasure to host and are definitely welcome back anytime!!

This woman obviously has bigger issues than her stay at my cottage. I truly believe that she is delusional. My rental is listed on various platforms and all the guests who stayed before and after her have been very happy, never once complaining about any type of smell. My cottage has always been non-smoking and there certainly is no “sticky tar-like residue" on the walls. We are located in a small NJ coastal town, not a “run down industrial-type neighborhood.” Street parking was detailed in the listing, and she parked down the end of the block, not "a mile away." (The town is only 1 mile wide). We also state that accommodations are one flight up. I’m sorry that Window Air Conditioning was not to her liking, but we are a cottage - not a hotel. This guest booked for 3 weeks in August because she “worked at the UN” and “wanted to be near” the Seastreak Ferry to NYC. She booked the 3 weeks in 2 separate bookings, saying “someone else was paying for the second half.” I allowed her to bring 2 dogs (over my 1 dog limit). She and her husband and dogs arrived a day late. When they arrived and complained about the accommodations, I immediately gave her the option to cancel their booking. They agreed to stay. The following morning, I received a call from VRBO at 8am. The guest wanted to leave. No problem. I charged her only for the 2 days booked at the 30% discounted rate. I also charged her half of the pet/cleaning fee. And I totally cancelled the second booking (even though I could’ve kept 50% per my cancellation policy). This was not good enough for her. She wanted a complete refund, or she would “do you the favor of not leaving a leave a public review on all the sites your rental is listed.” Because I refused to be bullied, she called the county board of health and the local municipality. Neither took her accusations seriously. VRBO told me not to engage with her – and I didn’t. When this review was posted, it was too late for me to give her the ZERO STAR rating that she deserves. Be warned – DO NOT RENT TO THIS WOMAN, her husband and her dogs!! She will find something wrong with your accommodations and will make up lies to get out of paying. I don’t think this is the first time this has happened, and I believe this to be some type of scam that she pulls on new VRBO hosts. Her profile says she’s been with VRBO since 2011, yet she only had one review (that I was unable to see). That should have tipped me off.
