Situated on 5 acres of rolling hills in rural Madison County, Iowa, this centrally located homestead has something for every kind of traveler. The charming town of Winterset is just minutes away, as well the historic Covered Bridges, wineries, breweries, parks and more. Located next to Speckled Hen Farms farm store and Lone Oaks Farm, you can take in an occasional music event or class!

Kris was a very welcoming host. The house was clean and fully decorated. The kitchen had lots of cooking supplies, which was good for fixing Thanksgiving dinner. Lovely views and homey comfortable environment.

The house is perfect for a quiet remote get away. The accommodations are very clean and have everything that you can think of. The large master bedroom is at the opposite end of the house off by itself. Very quiet

Lovely place, lovely weekend

A group of girlfriends wanted a weekend away near Des Moines. This place was amazing - close to town, has what we needed in the kitchen, comfy beds, spacious house, wonderful hosts.

A Nice stay in the country!

We were in the area for a wedding and spent two nights at the Roost. It had everything we needed, was clean and the shower and tub in the master bath were wonderful! We enjoyed coffee on the deck and also on the front porch. The fireflies in the evening seen from the deck were amazing as well as various deer!

The house was perfect for us!

There were 8 adults who stayed at this house and the accommodations were perfect. The host made it know she was there if we needed her and was welcoming without being over bearing. We all enjoyed our stay!

Brothers Sister and spouses reunion

Very peaceful quiet house located in the country. House was very clean, beds were comfortable, and plenty of cooking supplies. We all really enjoyed our stay. I highly recommend this place.

Nice sister’s getaway!

Quiet, private, and beautiful scenery! The house was so cute! Close enough to Des Moines for shopping, but far enough away from the city that we had peace & quiet!

Girls Weekend Trip

This is a great property in a picturesque setting. The decor was beautiful and the house was well stocked. The hosts were amazing and very responsive. They gave us great suggestions for restaurants and activities. We would definitely stay here again.

The Roost is the perfect country get away! It’s spacious and stocked with all essentials. Loved it!

Kris was just amazing. She accommodated our schedule, provided activity suggestions, and even brought us fresh eggs for breakfast! Highly recommend The Roost!

The Roost

We had a fabulous time on our sisters trip to Winterset. The Roost was so comfortable, clean, and accommodating. The beds were very comfortable. Kris delivered, homemade bread and provided fresh eggs.

Super cute, comfortable, and cozy country farm home

We had so much fun! Beds were amazing. So much fun detail in all the decor and "comforts of home". Lots of wildlife to see and you can watch chickens out the back window. But they aren't loud enough to disturb you. It's very peaceful. Lots of opportunities to just enjoy the peace - inside or out. The owner is wonderful to work with, and very friendly.

Fun at the Farm

We had such a great stay at The Roost! Kris made us feel welcomed and was easy to communicate with. Her shop next door is adorable and had some great finds. The house had everything we needed from towels to coffee in the kitchen. The location is convenient to Winterset, the Cidery and Winery. It was a great girls weekend away!

Relaxing & beautiful

This home is cozy and welcoming from the moment you walk in the Door. The front porch in the evening was very peaceful and has beautiful views of the countryside. Kris (the host) was more than helpful. Great community, would stay again!! Thank you Kris

Such a great stay!

I was blown away by everything about The Roost. The hosts thought of everything - this home has everything you could need to enjoy a comfortable stay. Communication with Kris was wonderful, and the country location was so quiet and relaxing (especially on New Year's Eve - my friends were all complaining about fireworks back in the city, and we had total peace and quiet). My family and I hope to return in the spring, when it's warmer and we can get the kids outside more. Thank you, Kris, for such a lovely holiday trip!

An Amazing Place out in the Country! The Roost is extremely clean and well designed, fantastically decorated, and has every amenity you will need. Chock full of local information, guide books, movies etc. The location can't be beat as it is gorgeous and wildlife visited us quite often. It was great having the super friendly owners nearby if we needed them, but they provided us with as much privacy as we wanted. We enjoyed the beautiful sunrises and sunsets in this cozy area! Kris was so kind to come and open the store for us. This whole area is so friendly and welcoming! It was a great weekend with my sisters! Definitely would love to make a trip back to the area at some point!
