We booked the property and were later asked to modify our confirmed reservation due to a double booking—the host had promised early access to a wedding party on our checkout date. While we couldn’t change dates, we agreed to vacate the guest house by 8am so the wedding group could access it by 9am. We also agreed to allow cleaners into the main house kitchen at 9am while we packed to leave by our original 11am checkout. For this, we were offered a discount, but after two follow-ups, we received no response and let it go.Upon arrival, we found broken glass around the hot tub—a concern with six young children. The host responded with the location of a broom, but no apology. That night we saw roaches in the kitchen, and again the next morning. The host’s solution was to use outdoor wasp spray inside—again, no apology or proper remedy.On checkout day, we left the guest house at 8am. At 9am, 20–30 strangers (the wedding group) entered not only the guest house but the main house too, moving our food and walking through the space. We felt overwhelmed, unsafe, and pressured to leave quickly with small children amidst strangers. The host arrived with donuts, which felt dismissive. A guest had to ask the host to keep the wedding party out of the main house. Cleaners hovered while we packed, creating a chaotic, uncomfortable end to a trip we spent thousands on.
