First, the positives. Communication with the host was good, early check in was available, checkout was simple with no tasks required, and the cabin itself is reasonably comfortable and private.That said, several aspects of our stay fell below expectations.Cleanliness was an immediate concern. Upon arrival, a used paper plate with food residue and several bottle caps were left on the porch, creating a poor first impression and suggesting the cabin had not been properly reset.The game room and barn area were also disappointing. Tables and surfaces were dirty and weather worn, and the fire pit area had an empty fuel bottle left behind, adding to the sense of neglect.The most significant issue was a strong sulfur or rotten egg odor whenever water was used. It was severe enough that no one wanted to shower or use the faucets. The host acknowledged this as a known well issue, but nothing was addressed during our stay. This should be proactively managed for an active rental.There were also maintenance and supply issues. The light above the main bedroom mirror was partially detached, baking pans were dirty and unusable, there was no aluminum foil, and only one trash bag was provided. Guests should plan to bring basic supplies.I read prior reviews carefully before booking and was surprised, as our experience did not align with them. My kids and I have an annual tradition of staying in a mountain cabin each Christmas, and unfortunately, this was our first real miss.
