At Nalu Hale (surf house) we welcome you to emerse yourself in surf culture. Wake up to the waves crashing on the shore of Kahalu'u Bay and never miss a sunset. Whether you like to surf, sup or snorkel, Nalu Hale puts you just steps from your next ocean adventure.

Our beautiful 2 bedroom ocean front home is ideal for the active travelers looking to be the first one in the water and the last one out. Nalu Hale is steps from one of the best places on island to surf and snorkel. Don't know how to surf? Nalu Hale shares the property with a surf shop that offers lessons and rentals for all your beach needs. The team at Kahalu'u Bay Surf and Sea will have you out and in the water with the best local knowledge of the bay.

When you're not on an ocean adventure or exploring all the Big Island has to offer, relax on one of 3 lanais, all offering an ocean view. The main lanai is equipped with a custom cooler bar, making access to your favorite beverage effortless. Grill up local caught fish on the Webber propane grill, and enjoy your meals on the outdoor table for 6. Watch every sunset of your vacation from your private lanai, or walk across the street and put your toes in the water and okole (bum) in the sand.

Once you've exhausted yourself and are ready to wind down, enjoy the temperature controlled rooms and amenities offered to make your vacation easy going.

The kitchen is equipped with counter top electric stove and oven, refrigerator and dishwasher. Other kitchen amenities include:

12 cup coffee maker
Hand juicer
Rice maker
Salad washer
Toaster
Microwave

Along with pots, pans, baking sheets, dishes, silverware, cutting boards and Tupperware containers.

The master bedroom offers guest a tempur pedic adjustable bed, his and hers night stands, large closet, dresser and 55" Samsung smart TV. Stay cool with your own Daikin minisplit AC unit!

The spacious master bathroom has a stackable washer and dryer, Dual head shower, his and hers sink and a bidet toilet.

Upstairs is a loft style bedroom with a queen sized futon bed, dresser and 36" smart TV. It also has its own 1/2 bath, 2 private lanais and Daikin minisplit AC unit.

If additional places are needed to sleep, the living room couch pulls out into a queen size bed. The living room also has a large Daikin minisplit AC unit to help keep you cool and comfy!

The Keauhou shopping center is a quick 5 minute drive south and contains a local grocery store, gas station, restaurants and shops. Just 5 minutes south of the Keauhou shopping center is Keauhou Bay. Popular activities offered at Keauhou are kayaking, stand up paddle boarding, snorkel cruises to the famous Kealakekua Bay and nightly manta ray tours. Keauhou also offers a 18 hole golf course and driving range at the Kona County club.

Drive 4 miles north or ride the free trolley along Ali'i drive and spend time shopping and dining in Kailua-Kona. Check out historical sights like, Huliee palace, the stone church and the residents of King Kamehameha.

Ben was a great host!!! My wife and I had a great time here and highly recommend the location. Having the surf shop downstairs was a huge plus and we still had complete privacy. We will definitely be back.

This is a beautiful house! It has all the amenities and more. Everything is fully stocked with everything you could need. Very clean and beautifully decorated. The host was amazing and was always in communication. Check in and check out is super easy. The ocean views are amazing and there are several lanais where you can sit and eat. 10/10! We will definitely stay here again.

Top 3 VRBO I've ever stayed at. Great location, upgraded property, lots of room, best stocked unit I've ever seen. I will definitely stay here again on our next visit. Right across the street from the ocean and 50 yards from a beach/park. Good bed, well stocked bathroom, lots towels, well appointed kitchen. Convenient location south of the airport. Off street parking. Great lanai overlooking the ocean. LOVE IT.

Incredible house and location!

The house was amazing - the kitchen had every appliance and utensil I could ever need. It’s an absolutely gorgeous home. We enjoyed our meals on the deck with the water view and loved walking across the street to go snorkel. The staff in the surf shop downstairs were super friendly and helpful too! It was an fantastic experience for me and my two boys!

Incredible Kona experience at Nalu Hale. Ben is the most thoughtful, nice and kind person. Anything one could ever need in a property was at our disposal, including one heck of a view of the ocean across the street and just as important a very clean and comfortable place. Ben and his surf shop crew took extremely well care of us and were able to enjoy some fantastic snorkeling, paddle-boarding, and surfing just a few steps from the house. Location was optimal with several other beaches nearby and the town just a few minutes drive. Without a doubt THE place to stay as it offered us a combination of amenities, comfort, and laid-back vibe we were so much looking for. Having the grill was a game changer! I'll be booking this place again our next visit to Kona. Thanks Ben!!!

Amazing

The place was very clean and has everything you could possibly need from cooking utensils, towels and linens to beach supplies. The location is great! Close to food, shopping, activities and best of all the beach and snorkeling cove across the street!! Ben is so welcoming and helpful. It was a great stay! Highly recommend this place and will stay here again the next time we visit!!!

Excellent House!

Loved the location, awesome house! Our family of 4 (teen kids) loved the place - our son was out surfing every day and we could watch from the lanai - perfect!! Loved all the “extras” in the house, grilled a bunch & kitchen had everything. 5 minutes or less to a good grocery store & central location to explore the Big Island. Ben was super responsive and great to work with. Highly recommend!!!

Surf house success

This is truly a five star review. The house was right across the street from excellent snorkeling and surfing. The house was one of the most well equipped and clean properties we’ve rented. The host was super friendly and helpful. It was a perfect Hawaii house for our family.

Exceptional Home and Hosts

We loved our stay - the location couldn't have been more perfect. Our host was attentive while giving us complete privacy; available when needed but never intrusive. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook elaborate meals, and we appreciated the thoughtful welcome gifts of chocolate, wine, and fresh avocados. The grill was a nice touch, too.The best part is just how close to the ocean we were. Just steps from the front door, there's a consistent surf break and one of the island's best snorkeling spots. The house and bedrooms were very comfortable and clean, and we were provided with all the beach essentials for our adventures. We took advantage of the outdoor shower and laundry access. This is one of my favorite vacation rentals. 10/10, would do again.

BEST FAMILY VACATION EVER

Ben spared no expense in the updates made to his home. Everything is absolutely first class. Too many amenities to list them all. Ben quickly responds to all messages and even let us check in a little early. I’ve snorkeled in many areas of Hawaii, and I have to rate Kahalu’u Beach as my #1 favorite place, which is located across the street. The bay is large and shallow, so the visibility was great with the fish and turtles just 3 to 4 feet away. Entry is easy enough for small children, with two lifeguard stations actively watching. We have only great things to say about our stay. Everything was just the best, we only wish we could have stayed longer. Thanks for everything, Ben!

Ben's place was amazing. Kiddy corner to excellent snorkeling and surfing. We had a fantastic time. Well appointed, we had zero complaints. To top it all off, watching the whales play while we relaxed on his Lanai.We would recommend a stay here.

No notes. This place is off the hook. Actually no it’s awful, stay away, we want it to be available whenever we want 😁 Seriously though — Ben is as attentive and gracious a host as you could ask for, and the place itself really is top notch. We’ll be back, repeatedly.

Wonderful Experience!

We stayed the week here for our first trip to Hawaii! The house is beautiful and everything we needed for the week was there. It is steps from the beach and perfectly located behind Kahalu'u Bay Surf and Sea. They had everything that we needed to try out all of the activities on the beach. Ben made sure everything was ready and was incredibly responsive to any questions. Including the best surfing times. Christopher at the shop was always friendly and helpful. We took surfing lessons and Eli and Tony were amazing instructors. They taught our whole landlocked family how to catch waves. This was the perfect stay and I hope to return soon!

A Perfect Trip

This house was incredible. Waking up to a beautiful view of the ocean and bay was incredible. We were close to the grocery store and to DT Kona so we had everything we needed within reach. The best thing about this place was by far our host, Ben. My wife and I got sick on our honeymoon and Ben went to buy us tea to help us. He was nothing but kind and helpful, and was an absolute amazing host. He allowed us to use snorkeling gear on the house, and we never saw him without a smile on his face. You have to stay here if you go Kona side.

An oasis in Kailua-Kona

We had the pleasure of staying at Ben's rental in Aug 2024. Ben is a wonderful host. He's warm, welcoming and friendly, as are the team at the neighboring surf shop below who helped outfit us for snorkeling adventures at Kahalu'u beach just across the street. The house is in a stellar location and is even more lovely than the pictures; it's extremely well-appointed, and was a great base from which to explore the island. If given the chance, we would stay again in a heartbeat on our next visit to the Big Island!

Spirit of Aloha

My husband and I, along with our teen boys, spent four days here last week. The home is everything the description/ photos promise and much, much more. The location can’t be beat! We enjoyed exceptional snorkeling across the street every morning and surfed most afternoons…also just right across the street. The main lanai might be the most unique part of this particular property, which includes breathtaking views, the murmur of surf lessons, custom-made bar/cooler, and charming geckos. Ben is a lovely human and took excellent care of us, as did the whole team at the surf shop. If you’re looking to immerse yourself in island surf and sea culture, this is the home for you!

Wonderful Place on the Big Island

My family and I had an amazing time. The property is as gorgeous as the pictures show, and is perfect for a small family. It's just steps away from some of the best snorkeling I've ever seen at Kahalu'u Bay, and just a few minutes drive from Kailua-Kona. Our host Ben was incredibly welcoming, and his crew at the surf shop were helpful as well. We will definitely be back!

If i could give it more stars I would. This place was perfect for our active family. The space, the views, the amenities, the location.....it has it all. The people at the surf shack downstairs were so nice, we never had problems with anything. I can't say enough, probably the best vacation I've ever had. I don't know when but we will be back

Perfect!

The home is exactly as pictured, very clean and the beds, couches, chairs all very comfortable. Location is awesome! The is our first time to big island, we toured the island and will be returning to this location. The bay/beach across the street is great, surfers, snorkeling and nice waves all day long. Inside is thoughtfully stocked and arranged, including cooking ingredients, like spices and oils, to great appliances / utensils. The host is responsive and kind. The connected surfshop went above and beyond, very professional, wonderful people. Overall 10 stars.

Isha has called this place her home since she was 7 years old. She learned to surf at Kahaluu Bay and worked at the rental shop since the age of 10 picking up leaves in exchange for surfboard rentals. The previous owner loved her so much that he build her a tree house on the property. Her dream was to one day own the place she loved so much. With the help of her business partner and husband Ben, her dream finally became a reality.

Kahaluu is a very special place to us and we are blessed to be able to share what its like to live here with everyone else. Nalu Hale is literally steps from the ocean and one of the best beginner friendly surf breaks! Not only that, but Kahaluu Bay is one of the top 3 best spots to snorkel on the Big Island.

There is a surf school located on the property that offers lessons and beach rentals for all of your ocean needs. If you are a surfer or an avid ocean-goer, this is definitely the place for you.
