Host could not be reached when I checked in and had a major problem. I informed the host the approximate time I would arrive, so you would expect he would make himself available in the event I had any issues. My daughter arrived a few hours earlier than I did (I informed the host she would probably arrive early) and she informed me there was no heat in the house and that she was confident that she had set the thermostat correctly (note that the outside temps were in the teens, so inside it was around 45 degrees). I immediately tried contacting the host, but he did not respond. When we (me, my wife, and my son) arrived a few hours later (within an hour of the ETA I gave the host), there was still no heat and by this time, my daughter was freezing. Again, I tried texting and calling the host as well as his wife (as they provided both numbers), but got no response from either. I then called the Vrbo help line and after answering their long list of questions, was on hold for about an hour. My son (who is an architect) and I (an engineer) started checking the house to see where the furnace was located to see if we could figure out why it wasn't working. There was a locked closet which I was able to open (again, we were rather desperate by this time) where the furnace was located, we noticed that the pilot light was not lit. Through my son's ingenuity, he was able to figure out how to open the panel on the furnace and get the pilot to light - we finally had heat!
