The Space:
This stunning 5-bedroom Airbnb is located in the vibrant and bohemian neighborhood of Marigny in New Orleans. The creole cottage was once a sugar factory in the 1800s and has been beautifully renovated and remodeled, while still retaining its historic charm. As you step inside, you will immediately feel at home with all the luxuries and conveniences of modern life, while still appreciating the original features.

The huge open concept living space is perfect for cooking, lounging, or working. The fully-stocked mid-century modern kitchen features a gas range, oven, coffee station, and state-of-the-art stainless steel appliances, including a dishwasher, microwave, and french door refrigerator. The kitchen peninsula/breakfast bar has white granite counters and stool seating for four guests.

The living room area consists of gray velvet sofas, armchairs, and a cozy loveseat arranged around a coffee table and smart TV, where you can relax and unwind after a day of exploring the Big Easy. The entire home is equipped with high-speed WiFi, perfect for streaming your favorite shows. There is also a stackable washer/dryer in the main living area.

All five fresh and modern bedrooms feature luxurious queen-size beds, ensuring you have a comfortable and restful night's sleep. One bedroom on the ground floor has an en suite bathroom, while all the sparkling clean bathrooms have gorgeous white granite vanities and custom white tile, providing tons of natural light.

But what makes this Airbnb truly special is the grand second-floor balcony. From here, you can marvel at the vibrant and festive Faubourg (neighborhood) of Marigny, while enjoying the fragrance of sweet olive and jasmine in the steamy dusk. You can even catch the distant tones of a sultry saxophone or a riverboat horn. The balcony is the perfect place to enjoy your morning coffee or evening cocktail while soaking in the local culture.

When it's time to explore, you're just four blocks from the French Quarter and three blocks from Frenchmen, the greatest Jazz street in America. This is the neighborhood where Jelly Roll Morton was born. You can immerse yourself in the experience and live like a local, in the heart of New Orleans.

The Neighborhood:
The Faubourg Marigny, commonly just Marigny, is a hip neighborhood just "below" (down river from) the French Quarter. Best known for the great live music district on Frenchmen Street, the Marigny also offers neighborhood cafes & businesses, historic architecture, and more. It has the air of what the French Quarter was in it's golden days. It has a few small hotels, and many bed-and-breakfasts, as well as a number of good restaurants, coffee shops, and music venues. Architecturally, the Marigny is known for its many styles of Creole cottages, most of which date to the 19th century. Its "heart" is Washington Square Park (bounded by Frenchmen Street, Royal Street, Dauphine Street, and Elysian Fields Avenue). Frenchmen Street is the main nightlife district, with half a dozen live music clubs and just as many restaurants in four short blocks. At Mardi Gras, the Marigny is one of the city's hidden hot spots. Very popular with locals, who enjoy partying in the streets without the busy atmosphere of Bourbon Street. Crowds gather at the corner of Royal and Kerlerec (outside of R-Bar Inn) as well as at the intersection of Royal and Franklin. Elaborate costumes are the order of the day, along with brass bands and many drummers. Two weeks before Mardi Gras, the Marigny is also the starting place for the Krewe du Vieux, a satirical, raunchy parade in 19th-century Carnival style! Complete with small floats drawn by krewe members and mules. Local cafes, restaurants and music venues line Frenchmen Street. Known for its bohemian atmosphere, the Marigny is home to many artists and musicians, as well as a sizable gay and lesbian population. Among its notable residents are chef Paul Prudhomme, painter James Michalopoulas, and actors Harry Shearer and Jennifer Coolidge, who can be seen around town when they're not working in L.A. Local writers include New Orleans mystery writers, Julie Smith and J.M. Redmann, as well as Andrei Codrescu, Michael Swindle, and Kevin Allman. Frenchmen Street is in the Faubourg Marigny neighborhood just below the lower edge of the Quarter. A 4 block stretch of bars, restaurants, and coffee shops mixed with live music venues make it one of the city's most hip places, catering more to locals than tourists (though tourists are certainly welcome, and welcomed). On any given night, one might find modern jazz, swinging traditional jazz, Latin American style music, rockabilly, and more within this small area.

The historic Marigny neighborhood is known for its beautiful shotgun homes, art galleries, restaurants, bars and music scene. From St. Claude to Frenchmen Street to the French Quarter, everything is only a short walk from our home. Stroll along the newly opened Crescent Park for sweeping views of the Mississippi River and city skyline. Take a bike tour of the neighborhood to hear about the history of this eccentric area and stop for refreshments at any one of the numerous neighborhood bars. Check out my guidebook for all of our favorite things to do.

Getting Around:
Walking and biking are the best ways to get around in the city. Uber and United Cabs are available 24/7 and the street car is close by next to the historic French Market. Rent a car to explore swamps, bayous, and old plantations outside of New Orleans. We suggest you Uber or cab home when you are alone or if it is late in the evening.

Other Things to Note:
No smoking.
No pets.
No parties or events.
