About a week before our stay, we received a message from the rental company saying that when we check in, we should say we are friends of the timeshare owners so we don’t get harassed.It wasn’t clear to me that the listing was a. Timeshare, but we went with the flow. At check in, the hotel asked for a from that the owner was supposed to provide. I texted and called the rental company and they had no idea what form was being requested. 45 min and a lot of confusion later, I was required to fill out a form saying I knew the owner and how much we paid for the rental. I was told by the hotel that timeshare owners are not allowed to rent out their timeshare as per the timeshare contract.we attempted to access the sub deck (which is about 1/3 of the pictures listed on VRBO) and we were told (& signs stated) that the sub deck is for owners only, not guests. Also, although the listing says “ocean view- first come”, the time share owner has a partial ocean view and even though the hotel was at 50% capacity and several ocean view rooms available, we were unable to have one based on the timeshare category we rented.All in all, we were pretty disappointed and the vacation had some unnecessary stress.Learning lesson for me is to make sure any Vrbo rentals are not timeshares.
