It is a very nice neighborhood, very quiet, and the sky was beautiful. The house was very run down and there were cords to the tv, vcr, etc hanging everywhere. 3 cockroaches were on the floor around the house and everything seemed grimy. The blinds were mentioned not having been replaced by the last renter... but the last renter must have stayed for a very long time and either dogs or something had torn things up. Overall, it was the least expensive house in the area, but with some heavy freshening up, replacing woodwork, furniture, etc, it could be a really nice spot. Unfortunately, we wish we had spent the extra 300 to stay elsewhere.

There were several issues that were listed in previous reviews that weren’t taken care of- none of the TV’s worked, live cockroaches in the kitchen, no towels were provided and washer didn’t work. We did reach out to owner who offered to send someone over to look at washer. Place is dated and suggest anyone heed past reviews and concerns. Plenty of other options to spend your money

Pros…..Great location…..from crows nest you have a great view Beach access was 100 feet down road then about 250 feet to actual beach…..Cons…..All blinds in house except one was damaged The entire house was very dusty and very outdated There are 4 tvs only one is operational which was the The living room tv that we had to unplug the cable box every time we wanted to watch TV sometimes it took 20 minutes (no smart TVs at all) when I contacted the host. I was told to call somebody else. Nobody really has time for that when you’re on vacation the VCR and the two DVD players that are in the house do not work there was only one chair outside. We actually had to go out and buy chairs. And last but not least there was cockroach’s in the house!!!! We kept our luggage in the car so we didn’t bring home unwanted guests!!!

Hey everyone, we had a fantastic time in Salvo. I’m not here to compare real estate, but the house, although a bit dated and in need of a few minor fixes, was overall fantastic. The kitchen was well-equipped, the rooms were clean, and the hot tub was great. It was conveniently located between a couple of beach access points, making it an excellent value for the price. No complaints at all. I highly recommend checking this place out.Additionally, I spoke with the caretaker about the older reviews regarding the mattress covers and the non-functioning A/C. Those issues had all been resolved—the A/C was ice cold, and the beds were fine. We saved a lot of money by cooking dinners and breakfasts. Finally, the WiFi was flawless and parking was a breeze!

Nice clean beachy, cozy house. Love the open floorplan. Excellent location in a nice neighborhood. This was our 3rd stay in this location. Definitely a keeper for all of our stays in the future! The upper lookout is just the icing on the cake!

Not bad

The property itself was beautiful. Loved the island in the kitchen. Loved how it was set up. Down falls mattress protectors covered in stains n what looked like feces. Air conditioner didnt work well and the washer stopped drainin after one use.

Good stay for the price

Overall, it was a good stay for the price. There were a few minor issues that we left in a list with the housekeeping tip envelope. We did really like the layout of the house. It has the kitchen/great room in the center and there are 2 bedrooms on either side. Each pair of bedrooms shares a bathroom. We had issues with doors not wanting to stay closed. You really had to be careful while in the bathroom and either prop the door closed, or just hold the handle while occupying the toilet. Also, the handle had fallen off the one shower prior to our visit and was just hanging there. Luckily, there was a tiny post coming out that we were still able to use that shower.There is a laundry room separate from the living area that we were able to access. Both the washer and dryer did work well. Unfortunately, the dryer lint catch tray had a hole and pieces of lint were blown out of the dryer vent into the open jeep that was parked below. We did LOVE the large bookshelf with a great assortment of books to look at! There was a great variety and we all enjoyed leafing through them!The outdoor seating left much to be desired. We managed to get 4 chairs to sit on the deck. The others were broken or very rusty. There was only one usable adirondack chair. It would have been nice to have more comfortable chairs in the hot tub area.LINENS AND TOWELS ARE NOT INCLUDED WITH THIS HOUSE. 'Bed Sheets' are listed under the amenities. Elsewhere it states you must rent the linens.

Comfy beach house in a great location

2nd stay here. We will be back. This is a nice comfy home with an open beachy feel. Nothing fancy, but clean and comfortable. We had a small issue and our hosts quickly resolved.Hot tub and lookout are nice extras.

Great place with a few MINOR flaws

We truly enjoyed our stay. We’ve always stayed in the Nags Head area but this trip was last minute so not much was available. We decided to try staying further south and ended up picking this house. The location is pretty good. From the 3rd story deck you have a fairly decent view of the sound and the ocean. The house is a well worn, true to the area beach house. Do not expect modern, because this home is anything but that which was fine with us. My only true complaint about the home were the mattresses. My wife and I are only mid 30s but still woke up sore every morning and had trouble getting a good night’s sleep. The previous complaints about the air conditioning have been remedied and the house was pleasant during our stay. All-in-all in our experience, we don’t believe that this house deserves the low ratings that it gets. While I don’t plan to stay further south than Nags Head, if I did, I wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again, but I’d do so with an air mattress.

Great location

We all enjoyed the visit. The area is beautiful. However the house has a lot of flaws. Generally it needs an overall redo. The flooring in the kitchen has gaps where the planks are not flush, the handrails to the decks are loose in some areas. Personally I think all the decks need replacing. The sliding doors need a real lock rather than metal rods. The smaller bathroom needs the shower head and pipe fixed (a temporary fix was done by us) and the handle for the water access falls off. There needs to be a ladder or stool so those of us who are vertically challenged can use the hot tub. The closets are chock-a-block with items so they are of no use. Some of the small appliances do not work at all or barely work. A general deep cleaning would be a good idea. The access to the beach is treacherous. You need to climb up through the dunes and the down the dunes to get to the beach. This should have been pointed out. We tried several accesses. Yes, the beach is 5 minutes away if you are young. We made do with what we had and did have a great trip!

Paradise was found

Other than a note from Cythia and Chesley with Hatteras helping hands informing us that the previous tenant trashed the place and broke a bedroom lap plus dishwasher is full. We chose to bring our own linen and was very shocked to see that none of the beds had been stripped. There was blood on sheets in 2 bedrooms and what appeared to be urine stains on 3rd bedroom. Had to strip the beds (put dirty linen in laundry room) and remake them. I really can't put blame on the owner for they had hired the cleaning people to insure things were okay. The kitchen, bathrooms and living room were clean. Living room suit could use a uodate. I will note that there was extensive work done on the steps and outlook tower, found these to be new and very sturdy. The hot tub was marvelous! All in all we had a good time and would stay here again.

Nasty and hot

The A/C was out, they put portable units in the bedrooms. Enough animal fur around everything to construct an animal. Management rude!

I really don’t want to give a poor review because any day at the beach is a good day. However, our stay had issues. These issues seem to be consistent throughout the other reviews. I have found a pattern with the owners contacting guests 2 days before their stay to report an issue. Our major issue was with the AC. And apparently it has been reported to owners as not working properly for awhile! So our decision to go ahead with our vacation was not one we had much choice. They placed mini AC units in 3 of the 4 bedrooms. They worked to cool off the rooms to 74-75 only at the coolest part of the night. But, this was only 3 bedrooms. For the interior area it hovered around 80 during the day. With the very old ceiling fan on high all the time and one box fan from the 80’s (falling apart), we tried to strategically place so it would draw the air from one of the AC units to the middle living area. We tried to make the best of an uncomfortable situation because honestly it was like a ‘camping type’ feel to this situation. With the humidity coming in through the open gap in windows from AC units being placed, to the sticky grimy feel on everything. The minor issues in the house are still the same as previous reviews. Not much has changed. Laundry area VERY unclean. Ice maker doesn’t work. Trash in yard. House sways. Missing spindles on deck. Mop and bucket left on deck. Lightbulbs burned out. Remote batteries missing or not working. Would love to get some money back!

The good and the bad

The good: The house is close to the beach, the rates are reasonable, lovely little beach house. We were able to speak with owner and property management about issues. There were no bugs that we saw during our 6 day stay (this was mentioned in previous reviews). The owner did refund us one day due to looking for a new place to stay and finding a solution to our problem, which we were able to do by ourselves. The bad: the A/C was not working when we arrived. It was 83 degrees in the house upon arrival. We called the property management company and they said they know that the owner was having issues with the A/C. The owner called later to let us know that an air conditioning technician would be coming out that evening or the next day. An air conditioning technician did come late on the following day. We were vacationing with my father-in-law who is in his 80s and the heat was definitely a concern for us. as well as the general uncomfortableness of it reaching almost 90° daily. The owner graciously offered us a refund for our stay but that would also mean that we would need to find another location in July when it is impossible to find a new rental. I spent the most of one day, trying to find another location somewhere close to the beach. This is important to us because we’re not sure if we were to get another vacation with my father-in-law. My husband managed to find a portable air conditioner, which we purchased and used during our stay.This home has potential but needs care

Great location!

The house has some flaws. But this is to be expected from an older beach house. The location is great! The price point is great! We had some some AC issues but the management company was diligent in trying to find a solution.
