Nigh Duck Cottage en el agua ofrece un retiro maravilloso

Encantadora, privada, romántica, cabaña isleña construida en la década de 1920 que domina el océano y está rodeada de hermosos jardines. Dormitorios y terrazas dan al mar. Tres cubiertas siguen al sol desde la mañana hasta las gloriosas puestas de sol de la tarde. Nigh Duck is an incredibly charming cottage in a perfect spot on Monhegan. It had everything we needed, and the setting couldn't have been better. I would highly recommend this property.

Nigh Duck is an amazing place to stay on Monhegan. The setting is private, yet just a quick walk to the ferry dock. The house is a charming summer cottage with a wonderful sunroom overlooking the water and a back deck perfect for watching sunsets. The host was very responsive when we had questions. We'd love to stay there again in the future.

Another magical week at Nigh Duck

This was our second stay at Nigh Duck and we thoroughly enjoyed experiencing it in a different season. We enjoyed the nip in the air, but were grateful for the abundant supply of firewood provided for chilly evenings. The cottage is absolutely perfect - so comfortable and lovely. The view from the sunporch is beyond description in its beauty. If you can tear yourself away from just staring at the sea, you will find an extensive library in the cottage that includes books about the island and its history.

Perfect island escape

We had such an amazing week at Nigh Duck! Monhegan is a magical island and this cottage was a wonderful place to call home for the week. We enjoyed having coffee on the deck and watching sunsets from the sunroom. Incredible views! The cottage was comfortable and well equipped. We hope this is our first of many visits!

How soon can we return?

We loved staying at this property, it has it all: -a perfect location right on the water, close to "town" but set far back from the road -decks on all sides to catch the sun, and shade when needed, with wonderful oceanfront views -very clean ocean water that is swimmable at high tide -a small galley kitchen that is well stocked and actually works very well for 2 cooks -a large sunroom for morning and evening relaxing -a caring property owner who is easy to communicate with

the sunsets were amazing

I grew up on the ocean but moved to Texas more than thirty years ago. Every year I've promised myself I'd go back to the sea if only for a vacation. This summer I spent two weeks in Nigh Duck Cottage and it was everything I'd hoped for. The cottage sits on the edge of the ocean above a cove where swimmers come for a quick dip and the occasional kayaker sets off for a cruise around the island. Every room in the house has a different view of either the ocean or the lovely gardens. You can watch the gulls while you wash dishes in the kitchen and if you're lucky you might catch sight of a seal, a sunfish, or a small whale (we saw all three). The sunsets were amazing going through several phases each night, every one a stunning display of color and form. I loved walking down the path through the gardens into the cottage. It felt like I was in a particularly wonderful English village living my daily life there. I stayed in the master bedroom and floated through the night occasionally waking and noticing changes in the light. The first week we were there the nights were moonless and the clear sky was black velvet with diamonds strewn across it. Nigh Duck is a truly magical spot and the very place to recover from the over-stimulation of the city.

Nigh Duck is magical, as is the whole of Monhegan Island.

During our too-short stay at on Monhegan we hiked just about every trail, built a fairy house in Cathedral Pines, saw an excellent photography exhibit at Carina House, and ate way too much lobster! When it rained, we didn't care because Nigh Duck's sunporch is a great place to relax, read, and just stare at the sea. The charming cottage is perfectly situated on the water for amazing views, gorgeous sunsets, and spectacular star-gazing. It is well stocked and very comfortable; its owners are helpful and accommodating. The location of the cottage is convenient to the village, but set apart for privacy. We look forward to return visits to Nigh Duck!

Nigh Duck Cottage - Wonderful Memories

My wife and I had one of the most memorable vacations we have ever had at your charming cottage on Monehgan. Monhegan itself is sensational, with hiking, cliffs, lobsters, and the beautiful little village. But staying in your cottage made it even better. The deck is incredible. Seated right over the ocean with views of wildlife, Manana, and the most gorgeous sunsets was truly one of the greatest experiences we’ve had. Quiet dinners – again with water views – were so enjoyable. Then we woke to the sounds of the ocean and the birds and gulls – ready to start another great day. Thank you so much for creating this space. Couldn’t recommend it more.

The Perfect Seaside Retreat

If you want a deeply relaxing experience in a classic seaside cabin, on one of the loveliest islands off the coast of Maine, then Nigh Duck is your place! We have enjoyed many years of happy times there and the only problem we have is leaving! The property is always immaculate, nicely furnished, and with a matchless view. We highly recommend Nigh Duck, and look forward to returning over the years.

We are a former high school history teacher and nurse who live near Boston and who have loved traveling ourselves over many years to many locations. We particularly love walking inn to inn in France, Italy, and the Yorkshire Dales and have more recently stayed in Home Away rentals several times with great luck.
Dave led choral tours for almost 20 years to the former Soviet Union, China, Cuba, South Africa. Both have worked abroad in Spain, Hong Kong, and Liberia.
Diane's family used to summer on Monhegan from the 20's on and we summered there for a week or two with our children each year as they grew up. It has a magic that draws people from all over the country and world. We bought this cottage and have put our loving care into fixing it up and improving its gardens.
We've always loved Monhegan's beauty, simplicity and pace of life that contrasts with our often busy and overly-connected daily life.

This cottage is the quintessential, Maine island cottage. Built in the 1920's it has a charm all its own. Its location couldn't be better as it sits above a cove and ocean that mesmerizes one from sunrise to sunset as the tides come and go. In July through September the water even warms up enough to take a dip down below the cottage.
