We welcome you to the entire cottage and park like yard on jay cooke rd. We are located in a rural area of Esko, MN. We are right outside official state markers of Jay cooke state park coming from our road,Jay cooke.

Great place to celebrate the holidays with a fresh cut tree to enjoy the season.

Down the road you will find yourself in Jay cooke state park with the superior hiking trail (SHT) and the munger trail boasting several miles of rugged hiking paths, smooth blacktop paths and easy access to COGGS trails

The quiet neighborhood will help you enjoy star filled nights by the fire pit.

We have six camp and outdoor chairs, with outdoor and patio furniture including a hammock. This is your escape from the cities hustle and bustle but close enough to duluth,mn and superior, wi. OR a great base for north snd south shore activities or duluth and outdoor for your stay.

Jay Cooke Cottage invites all outdoor enthusiasts to partake in miles of mountain biking, biking, rollerblading, birding, hiking, nature trails, cross country skiing, snow shoeing, disc golf, horse trails, fishing, snowboarding, downhill skiing, rock hounding, kayaking, paddle boarding, great photography and much more.

Our kitchen is supplied with any utensil you would need to cook a meal for your whole family or group.

We have a coffee pot that brews by the pot or uses k-pods. If you wish to cook outside we have a charcoal grill and freestanding grill for over the fire pit.

The cottage was freshly redone in 2024 including local nature art, Himalayan salt lamps, secondary lighting, essential oil diffusers and a zen nature vibe.

Our cottage does NOT have any cameras for your privacy.

We enjoyed our stay in this cozy cottage! A very peaceful and comfortable spot, with a pretty and welcoming interior. Communication from our hosts was helpful and timely. We did not take advantage of the proximity to Jay Cooke Park and other beautiful natural areas this time, but could easily see why this would be a great spot to stay for such adventures!

Great place, weather was very cold but the house was cozy, warm and the christmas tree and lights set a great mood for the season! Kitchen had everything needed. The location is great, close to duluth and restaurants/activites but far away enough to enjoy the night sky. Host was very communicative and offered great suggestions.

Perfect little cottage for a winter weekend trip! Pet friendly! The hosts were very attentive and accessible for questions. We all slept very warm and confortable. As a pleasent supprise there was a real Christmas tree in the living room for us! .Will definitely stay here again on a trip up north.

Came to Jay Cooke Cottage to check the place out for a possible future stay next summer. Really liked the proximity to the State Park and the William Munger trail which we plan to ride next spring and summer. Mike And Andrea were fantastic. They checked on us to make sure that we had everything we needed and gave us ideas on things we could do. The place was cozy, comfortable, clean and decorated really nice. Our dogs enjoyed the area as they got to encounter new smells while we hiked through the state park and also over by Ely's Peak. When at the cottage they enjoyed looking out the window into the yard and they both slept right under the window too. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and plan on coming back again and would recommend it to others.

This clean, cozy place was perfect for a weekend getaway. Conveniently located adjacent to Jay Cooke State Park made access to trails for daily hikes a breeze. And communication with the owners is the best I’ve ever experienced. They were incredibly responsive and made helpful recommendations for restaurants, trails, kayak rentals and more. We’d definitely stay here again!

All the small details are done well. The cottage was very deep clean. All the appliances work great. The shower is hot and has plenty of pressure. The area is whisper quiet and close to tons of fun things. We tossed a frisbee around the huge yard, went to Cloquet, Duluth and the shore, Jay Cooke, the candy store, etc. The hosts were great as well. Will totally stay again!

We had a wonderful time exploring the area and didn't realize how beautiful it was. We loved the swing bridge area. We spent a lot of time doing crafts, while the guys went fishing and golfing. It was a very relaxing four days.

Pet Friendly, adorable little cottage. Beds were comfy. They had all kinds of outdoor stuff to use. They even provide an open fire cooking setup at the fire pit. Loved the area scenic and calm. Super close to Duluth and superior but out of the way enough that you don’t have a city feel. Close to all kinds of trails and the river. Loved the serenity with all the comforts of home! They provide lots of DVDs and the player and TV. Worth staying at! Super easy check-in and check out. The hosts are great communicators and return messages very quickly. It was a great trip and I hope to stay again!

It was a nice place with pretty good privacy. The road was a little busy with cars at times but we were out and about more than there so it wasn’t much of a bother. We did have a fire one night which was a good way to relax after a day of hiking in Duluth. Great communication from the property owners!

Mike's place is the perfect location for access to Jay Cooke State Park, the Munger Trail, even a day trip into Duluth. The cabin is pretty close to the road, but there was hardly any traffic at all. I would say that it is more ideal for 2-4 people rather then our 6. The bedrooms are really tight if you have a pack and play or air mattress for kids and the dining area is small. But everything was clean and pleasant and we had a great stay!

Best vacation!

The property location, atmosphere and hosts made it one of our best trips.We enjoyed the ease of accesing Jay Cooke and the munger trail and we enjoyed our evenings returning back from Lake Superior. We have been living in this area for over 13 years and love connecting you to local gems where you can potentially find local swimming holes off of the superior hiking trail to the new beach on the st louis river. We love being able to fish, kayak, ski, snowboard and hike in this beautiful area.

We like that we are in the small and safe town of Esko, MN. The neighborhood has so much space for privacy and acres between most houses.. some great mt biking or road biking trails, kayaking the st louis river, to hiking the superior hiking trail are all close by.
It is nice to have a short cut to Duluth through Jay Cooke State Park to Chambers Grove, Mission Creek, the Boy Scout boat Landing and the munger boat landing as well. Good fishing options all around.

There are bears in the area and we have spotted many bald eagles on the property. Our cottage is in Esko, MN not the west end of duluth compared to many other short term vacation rentals which brings a more restful vibe to your stay with less people to worry about. You are in a peaceful and recharging outdoor setting with the comforts of home with a loaded kitchen, bedrooms, bathroom with Minnesota charm directly outside Jay Cooke State Park.
