Perfectly located, exactly what we were looking for!

We had a nice stay and been well welcome by our host. Property is nice, well located, clean etc. Exactly what we were looking for our vacation and have a good treat in nice Carmel Valley Village. Looking forward to go back in the future.

What a great get-away!

We stayed three nights and slept wonderfully well! Quiet environs with lovely hiking, restaurants and wine-tasting nearby. Our host, Desi, made us feel very comfortable with clear communications before we arrived, and as we checked in. In addition to settling us in very comfortably, she also had a really complete notebook of things to do and see in the area and beyond. Easy access and a beautiful location.The place itself is fascinating: truly a library! Plus interesting art everywhere you looked! 100 year old redwood cabin/cottage, but with the modern conveniences! One thing that really speaks well of how clean things were is that there were NO "old" smells that one can find in an old building (dust, mildew, rodents - believe me, if you know, you know!) The Library was completely clean, comfortable and warm! Ahhhh...And another HUGE plus is that we didn't have to do our own housecleaning at the end!! Our host made very clear that we were "on vacation" and didn't have to strip beds, start laundry, do dishes, or any of the things other places insist on if you want to avoid cleaning charges, etc, etc! What a difference, and it truly helped us relax!We will be returning!!

Beautiful cozy stay!

Loved this spot, close to all points of interest such as Carmel-by-the-sea, Big Sur and Pt. Lobos, but far enough from touristy areas to feel tranquil and relaxed. Desiree, our host was courteous and excellent in her communication. Highly recommend!

Charming cottage in Carmel Valley

A lovely cottage just outside Carmel Valley town, highly recommended. Book lovers may never leave. The one thing that may not work for everyone is that kitchen facilities are limited -- toaster, microwave, small refrigerator, plates, flatware, etc. There is also a hotplate, though we did not check it out. And while there is no kitchen sink, there is a "dish fairy" that miraculously washed all your dishes each morning!

Wonderful in All Regards

The Library was a cute, cool studio artfully arranged in the host’s compound. It stayed cool during a heat wave, was very quiet and conveniently located close to Carmel Village. The host, Desiree, gave me a private tour of her art studio and separate gallery on a moments notice. Her thoughtful touches in The Library were greatly appreciated; creamer for the coffee, cookies and good bath products. I’d stay here again in a heartbeat.

Beautiful Setting - A Lot of Books

Lovely compound on the side of a mountain in Carmel Valley. Coffee shops, restaurants and wine tasting are within a short drive. Coastal attractions are within a 1/2 hour drive. Host is very friendly.

Quiet and peaceful among the oak trees

I felt totally safe with the locked gate. I read a great book(lots to choose from) while I enjoyed Artist's Library Garden Apartment.

Outside the fray and a comfortable quiet place to stay

A nice quiet place to stay. Quaint charming studio surrounded by all you could ever want to read! Owner had a great network of car enthusiasts, which made our stay at Monterey Car week all the more enjoyable.(if too short).

Not Welcomed

Desiree greeted me by yelling at my daughter and son-in-law, “You are not welcome!” They were simply bringing me food after a long journey and wanted to welcome me. My daughter had previously messaged her to request they quickly stop by, but she did not message back. My son-in-laws family lives just down the road and they had no intention of staying for long. When we tried to ask Desiree where they could park (the driveway/ parking area was very spacious), she continued to repeat, more loudly, “YOU ARE NOT WELCOME!” She preceded to tell me, “This is not starting off well.” It was quite late and I was very worried I would need to find another place to stay. She never once welcomed me, made any effort to be kind, and it was awkward at best. Her communication was abrupt and sarcastic. I was very lucky to have my son-in-laws family close by. In terms of the accommodations, the furniture was dusty, it smelled musty, and there was used flosser left behind on patio furniture. The number of rules Desiree has is simply outrageous. I travel often and have never encountered so many ridiculous rules. It is abundantly clear that Desiree is not comfortable with people staying on her property. I believe she is in the wrong business and would not recommend this stay.

Quirky, not corporate

Our short stay at The Artist's Library was restorative in ways that fancy places cannot offer. The grounds with arching, ancient live oak trees and pots of bright geraniums are lovely and enlivened with chatter of crows who generously share their territory. The space is thoughtfully equipped and well cared for. Your host is a font of information, but respectful of your privacy. You'll remember your stay here with fondness.

Well Rested

Where to begin . . . Desiree was/is a wonderful host that was so welcoming and accommodating. The down pillows are like resting your head on a cloud, the kitchen is comfortable and well equipped, the front porch and chairs are a sanctuary, the gentle breeze and sound of the birds that comes through the bedroom windows are heavenly. In summary, we LOVED the privilege of getting to stay at this gem of a home. Cafe Rustica is a MUST for dining. Thank you Desiree for facilitating this wonderful stay.

What an absolute delight!

We knew from the minute we pulled through the gate that we had picked to perfect spot for our 2 nt stay. The lush beauty of the property and the ‘welcome’ from our host Desiree we knew we were in for a treat. Not only is the property breathtaking but stepping into the Artist Library apartment was enchanting. Imagine yourself surrounded by warm colors, art and beautiful books or sit outside surrounded by ancient oak trees, birds and flowers in full bloom. And then top it off with a comfortable bed & linens we will not hesitate to return when visiting the charming Carmel Valley Village area.

I am a full time artist making illuminated shell sculpture and lampshades from natural seashells. I've been crafting my pieces since 1974. I still find them absolutely beautiful. Then there's the gardens– when I need a work break I snip and pluck, rake and squirt. Sadly, as much as I love to squirt water– I shouldn't be living in California!!

It suits me completely! When I first saw this house 40 yrs ago. It had just the kind of potential and bones I wanted in a house... plus a killer view. I couldn't believe it. And immediately bought it.

–MONTEREY BAY AQUARIUM is the #1 attraction in Monterey County. I have no free passes.
–WINE TASTING is big here because we have such an excellent wine growing appellation– ask me about the 20+ Tasting Rooms within a mile.
–WILD TURKEYS and deer heavily populate the area and are wonderful to observe.
–FIND AN INTERESTING BOOK and read it while you're here. Ask me for recommendations and tell me where your interests lie. But leave the books where you found them when you depart.
